i actually put such a pit into a JK level... a small room with force pickups and a really deep pit that dropped you into a room with lava at the bottom... just before hitting lava you teleport back to the top of the pit
eat right, exercise, die anyway

I was shocked myself. Didn't think I'd be the first one to make the TGS reference.

Deathcheep14, there's a post edit button for a reason, there's no need to post 4 posts in a row within a minute of each other.

Falling through a hole that goes through the Earth, you would reach the other side in about 42 minutes. Interestingly, this is true at any angle, not just a hole straight down. See this article to learn more: http://www.damninteresting.com/?p=696
If you fall into a physically impossible infinite bottomless pit, you would, in theory, eventually reach the speed of light. If there is air, the resistance would probably prevent this, however. Also, the air friction would make you hotter, not colder. (Think of meteors!)

Nope, if that were the case, sky divers would probably heat up. The reason meteors burn up as they reach our atmosphere is because they hit it at crazy tremendous speeds that they've built up while travelling through space and not hitting much.
A falling body accelerates due to gravity until the damping force of the atmosphere (ie your drag) increases enough to counteract the weight of the body. Since drag is proportional to velocity one would expect it to balance out as the body reaches a certain velocity. This is why sky divers have a terminal velocity (roughly 120mph according to wikipedia) which would inevitably vary according to how they position themselves.

Well, falling though the Earth shouldn't be a problem for Kitty.

Falling into bottomless pipe? Well, if it is bottomless, I believe, that it means it opens up in space.

In this case, anyone "falling" through such pipe can be considered to be separate space object, and dealt with exactly like any other space object, abuding to same physical laws.

In a particular case of falling through a tube going exactly through the center of planet...
Either, the "center" of gravity will be outside the pipe, in which case, one will fall on the wall of this pipe, closest to the gravity "center". Either, if "center" is within the pipe, falling object will be oscillating within pipe, until air friction, and bumps against the walls won`t stabilise it still within the "center".

when you fall down a bottomless pit you starve to death

Unless you die from banging on all walls, first.

I can't believe no one has said it yet.

When you fall down a bottomless pit you die of starvation.

Why hasn't anybody said the obvious?

You die of starvation when you fall down a bottomless pit.
2007-03-10, 9:41 PM #70
I still say you'd die of dehydration first :p

At the bottom of the pit, the answer is 1.
