How many of you have that little "donor" stamp?

I'm taking numbers for a paper, and I'd appreciate it if you were all honest. Please don't say "Yes" if you're not a registered donor, and please don't say "No" if you are.

[Edit - Since some of you aren't able to look down about 5 posts, I'll add this here: Please post to let me know if you're a U.S. citizen or not.]

Nope.

But now that I think of it, I don't really have anything against becoming one.

But then again, my internal organs are like timebombs. Hmm.

No. I do it out of courtesy for other people. Believe me, if I die in a car crash, and you need a liver, you REALLY don't want mine.

If people would, I'd also like each of you to post if you're a Yank or not. I know the nationalities of those who have voted thus far, but just for accuracy's sake from here on out.

Yes.

I'm American.

I don't really understand why recycling people is an issue. EVERYONE should be a donor by default. What the hell will you care? YOU'LL BE DEAD STUPID.

Everyone remember Rob's comment, I will post the subject of my paper after a large enough sample is taken.

That or he could go with the "OMG, dead people organs have high failure rates!"

Either way, I'm looking forward to reading it.

Though we Dutch have an extra certificate to show we're donors (hence, it's not on the passport/driver's license); yes, I'm a donor.

I chose "no" without really thinking about it when first getting my license, but I guess I'll switch to yes when I can because I don't have anything against it.

And I'm American.

British, and not a donor. I don't have anything against being one, I'm just lazy and will not likely get around to registering for a long time. I doubt anyone would want my lungs, liver, or pancreas anyway :P
2007-03-06, 4:33 AM #16
Extra registration? All I had to do to become a doner was the check off a checkbox when I applied for a license.

I don't remember anything like that =/ Then again, it was a few years ago, and it's still only a provisional license at the moment.

Yes by default... new law in Israel since 2005. You have to explicitly request not to be a donor if you have a problem with it.

I'm a US citizen and I voted no. In 8th grade my science teacher told us that if there was only an extremely small chance that I would survive something, they would just kill me and take my donor organs.

Or something like that. Whatever it was, it scared the whole class into never being a donor.
2007-03-06, 7:11 AM #25
I'm a registered donor on my drivers lisence.

I registered seperately with the US Marines (I'm a US citizen, btw) so I'm not really sure what that means. They're already ruining all my organs.

It's also a lie. Doctors are legally bound to do everything possible to save you, and even then they can't take it out of you until after you've died.

Plus, if it has to do with money, they'd make more money trying to keep you alive than doing a donor procedure.

And yes, I'm a donor. (US American)

I"m an american but I'm not a donor.
I honestly don't know why. I don't have anything against it.

I WOULD BE

I'm seriously DEPRESSED about the fact that I can't donate anything but my eyes. I've had blood transfusions, so they don't allow you to be a doner.

It depresses the hell out of me, because I really think that there isn't a heaven, and I really think that you should try to contribute to the world after you die. I can't :-(

Except my eyes. But that isn't going to save a life; it's just going to repair broken eyes. I wanna save lives, not repair :-(

Non-US citizen. My provisional says nothing, but I know I'm on the organ donor register. And blood donor register too, but that's not the subject of this thread.

Non-US here, and not a donor either. I appreciate what organs do for people but theres about the though of donating that makes me feel jittery.
nope.
