Is intelligent design science?
2007-03-10, 6:32 AM #41
Why can't they stop bothering God? She wants some rest, too! :(
Sorry for the lousy German

Because they are too little to sleep without mommy?

Pretty crude example, but pretty up to point. Most of religious people need God, as an abstract figure of ultimate observation and judgement. Taking responsibility for own actions is a hard burden, so religious people use God as a judge, to omit the necessity to judge themselves.

In a way, it`s a good way to calm conscience. "God will sort it out, and punish, if something`s wrong. So sleep tight and be happy."

One of the main reasons intelligent design isn't a scientific theory is that it came up with the conclusion first (God made the universe) and then looked for evidence to back up the premature conclusion. It's backwards.

Well, since the vast majority of people (hopefully) who follow or preach religion know it's faith-based set of beliefs, is there any debate here?

Yes, because they try to pass it off as scientific and fight to get it into science classrooms.
2007-03-10, 8:16 AM #46
Well... Yes.

Trouble is not exactly in the fact, that religious people insist on faith over facts.

It`s that they tend to persecute people, who point out facts, and say - "Sorry, I don`t buy your faith, because facts are against it.".

Intelligent design annoys the hell out of me. Behind it is the belief that wanting to know is wrong.
Steal my dreams and sell them back to me.....

Does one study the watchmaker when studying the watch, or does he study only the watch? I would think, he would only study the watch.

That being said, I think it is worth exploring the possibility of intelligent design in a scientific way.

But really, we study the creation in science, not so much the creator.

My 2 cents.

Also, what just happened? I'm away for three days and suddenly massassi erupts into immature chaos?

Hail to my arrival, most likely.

As for creationism... Sadly, it`s impossible to explore it in scientific manner, as Almighty isn`t exactly good lab rabbit.

Quite obviously intelligent design is a science :downs:

Obvious proof, then? ^_^

ID is a cheap backdoor attempt to get creationism taught in school.

It's 100% political.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Agreed. As I said - teach, yes, but teach with philosophy and theology, not with science. And make them voluntary.

You are all so hopelessly biased and closed minded.
Wikissassi sucks.
2007-03-10, 3:19 PM #55
How so?

How can something be a "THEORY", if it`s impossible to contest it`s veracity?

The axiom of ID is flawed - "You have to believe, that Big Daddy made all that.".
Why? What proof is there, aside from speculation? Can anyone demonstrate the process of "creation"? And yes, the process of primitive life self-organising WAS tried experimentally. Miller`s experiments.

I believe that humans are living weapons designed by an alien race to fight their wars. I insist that this be taught in elementary schools because children deserve to hear the truth. Won't someone think of the children?
2007-03-10, 3:52 PM #58
They need to know their ancestors were aliens! :hist101:

Proof?

People suck as weapons, actually.

At least we know that if the aliens designed us to be better than them at fighting, if they ever invade us we'll have a good chance.

Maybe we were just designed to by psychologically built for fighting, not physically; eventually they plan to stick us all in mechas or spaceships and fight wars across the galaxy.

haven't any of you people heard of the guyver? jesus

Jon`C - proof experimental.

If you don`t take my word for it, you`re more then welcome to swing rock-on-a-stick and baby, and make your own decision on which one is handier.

any science is based upon proven fact or theory,

intelligent design is based upon faith,

intelligent design is not intelligent, in fact its rather stupid.

The sooner it is put in religious education classes the better.

btw, I do a phd in physics, my opinion is biased, make of it what you will.

Well, to be entirely frank... Why only christians get to promote their ideas in school?

Why not teach, that whole world IS a god, which is all and everything, like Hinduism says?
Why not teach, that world was created by a decree from celestial bureaucracy, per Taoism?

The idea behind intelligent design doesn't really specify which god(s). It just considers that perhaps an intelligent being designed everything, rather than no being.
Be it aliens or whatever. Christians will say the Christian God did it, but thats only because they're connecting the dots.
2007-03-10, 5:57 PM #70
Axis, it`s not that easy.

ID may not specify a God by name, but they sure do their best in details to let everyone know, that "Yhwh was here!"

Yeah. I see what you're saying.

I can't say I know of too many people that believe in intelligent design that aren't Christians.
2007-03-10, 10:43 PM #72
Intelligent Design being a backdoor for god botherers into science discussions isn't why it isn't valid.
