I quit smoking in 2001.
I believe that people should have the right to smoke...outdoors or in the privacy of their own home or other smoking establishments. I believe that parents who subject their children to second-hand smoke should have said kids taken away from them for neglect. I also believe that smokers should be knocked to the bottom of most donor lists, which I believe they are much of the time. If you're going to slowly kill yourself on purpose, I would much prefer that someone who isn't trying to do so, come first when it comes to donor parts.
I myself used to smoke, so I realize how good it feels once you're addicted, to light up a cigarette to calm those nerves. I dislike apathetic people, whether they're apathetic regarding their own health or someone else's, and unfortunately, many smokers, despite their claims, fall in to this category. Most smokers that I know tend to subscribe to idiotic claims such as "everything causes cancer" or "we're all going to die" or "it takes X number of years to develop cancer and I'll quit long before then". However, there are always exceptions, though I would guess they're quite rare in this case.
Please excuse me if I generalize. I've been told that I tend to do that. I see smoking as irrational. When I'm at work and I look out at the smokers in their cage, I often think of them as cattle. Except these cattle aren't being slaughtered, they're slaughtering themselves.
