What is your current internet connection speed?
2007-03-19, 4:44 PM #1
I just noticed that my connection is running some 10 times faster than usual, and I was wondering what kind of bandwidth everyone else has. So, POLL TIME!

Doh, I voted the wrong option. I meant "100 - 1000 kbps" not "10 - 100 mbps"

So, if we're exactly 10.0 Mbps which choice do we make?

If RIT's internet pipe is not saturated, our 100 Mbps network is the only bottleneck. Except for uploads, which are capped at something like 128 KBps per connection. Although the last time I did a speed test I went higher, which leads me to believe it's not as capped anymore.

...Doesnt really suprise me. Basic cable internet package.
But I'll tell you, my upload has increased tenfold since I first got this connection. Good thing too, trying to run a web server with a 15k upload sucks monkey balls.

Maybe if I didn't run the speedtest during prime time.

And also maybe if comcast didn't totally **** me over.
Wikissassi sucks.

Can't test right now because I'm downloading a bunch of stuff, but my connection is 10mbit/640kbps.
I usually get like 9800kbps on speed tests, always close to the advertised speed.
2007-03-19, 9:39 PM #20
1.5mbit connection, so around 160kbps download speed.

Need something faster...!

That's only connected through wireless at the moment though, so it's quite a bit slower than normal. Generally 40 Mb down is pretty standard, with the upstream fluctuating between 10-40 Mb.

Here we go, I plugged her in just to see.

Upload a little on the low end, but I've been seeing that quite often recently. Leads me to believe they've sort of capped it.

Dude.. I'd trade you any day for Time Warner. (which is what I have now since I moved cause Comcast isn't in this area.)

Honestly, I pay just about twice as much, and the speed is slower (5MB compared to 7MB)
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

2/2 symmetrical.

Seems to be exactly that according to all the speed test I've tried over time.

That site doesn't seem very accurate.

From the recommended server:

Next closest server:

From a random server nowhere near me:

So which one is right?

Upload speed is consistent though.

I've seen that test. It's not accurate in the slightest. I either get 0, or several billion.
Wikissassi sucks.
2007-03-20, 4:56 AM #33
Chaz, that's because you get different speeds to different servers. Duh. You should get consistent results to the same server.
Wikissassi sucks.

I use the NY server instead of the recommended (which I think is Chesterbrook or DC) because the rec'ed server blows.

Yes, but we're all posting our speeds using different servers. We can't really compare our speeds with this site unless we all use the same server.

But if we all use the same server, even that wouldn't be accurate because we're all different distances from the server, right?
