well I'm currently out at cern using the wireless in my room.

whether that's making it any slower or not I can't honestly say but considering some of you guys are totally kicking my speeds *** and I'm supposed to be at the top particle physics lab in the world my score is a little disappointing... :(

still its better than my uni, at least download wise.

Australian broadband is somewhat hampered by a large area and relatively few people, but times are potentially changing...?

Quote:
With the rollout of a new ‘Fibre to the Node’ (FTTN) network, it will connect 98% of Australians to high speed broadband services – at a minimum speed of 12 megabits per second, a speed almost 40 times faster than most current speeds.

Not that I'm complaining - my 1.5mbit connection is faster than what many people can get.

Did you see Peter Costello lose the plot over the proposed broadband plan? Giving people better internet connections is apparently "economic vandalism" over here. Despite the fact that a substantial portion of rural areas have crappy telephone lines and a national broadband plan would go a long to helping fixing that problem.

I'd love to use VOIP rather than giving money to telstra and I bet a lot of people in the bush would appreciate being able to tell telstra to take a hike after they've been dragging their feet on phone lines.
