I just heard an explosion about two five mikes ago. Someone said it was an RPG and then we got reports of small arms fire about 300M from our main gate. We're here operating with skeleton personel. It's a little unnerving O_o

Eighteen years old and you decide you want to be in a war. Why is that?

Hey I bet it would go over really well if you did a performance of war of the worlds. You'd never get put on radio watch again.

I have to ask one question though...

Why is there a weapon just sitting there? Does that happen a lot in the Army? I thought the 82nd was one of those outfits that 550 corded everything to themselves...

Regarding what he should or shouldn't be saying, there's a difference between an international news channel saying that an armored battallion is heading to <Insert Village/Town Name> and for someone to mention that their rapid response unit is in a bad mood on some vague website's forum.

Wow, been a while since he last posted. Should we assume he was KIA?

(I'm kidding, obviously)
The cake is a lie... THE CAKE IS A LIE!!!!!
2007-03-21, 7:10 PM #47
Haha, Savage, I wish I was KIA right now. ;)

I found out that weapon belonged to a sniper who is attached to Bravo troop. He had asked the XO if he could leave it in the TOC because he wanted to make sure it was under guard, which is understandable because it's a sensative Item and it has to be accounted for at all times.
But the XO I guess either forgot to tell me about it or didn't think that information was something I needed to know. I was like "Sir, come on, I need to know these things." I mean, If anyone had walked into the TOC and said "hey, I need my rifle" I would have been like.. "I don't know anything about it" and they could have said "Oh, Yeah, That 25MM rifle is mine" and I couldn't have said otherwise.

I'm so tired of all this BS. People don't really know what really goes on over here. Just like today we (bravo troop) had to consolidate our TOC into another room which we now share with D-co because some platoon from D-co needed our old TOC to sleep in. I mean, That platoon doesn't even have to be out here and their personel having sleeping quarters is more important than bravo troop having a place to operate out of. It's total BS.

Well.. In the past week and a half we've been Mortared several times. One highspeed mother****** thought he'd be special and lob a grenade over the wall. Which wasn't smart because we had guys on the roof with SAW's who lit his *** up. The .50 gunners sighted him first, but apparently it's against geneva convention rules of war to shoot personel with any .50 calibur weapon. We've taken small arms fire from all directions.
It sounds worse than it is.

I really just miss my girl. She's back at Camp Taji on detainee guard right now. I hate being away from her.
All the guys here say "You have no reason to complain, You get to see your girl" Which is true, to a point. I get to see her about every month or so. It's just harder for me Because my Fiancee is a short drive away, Their female's are half the world away.
I'm really starting to believe this country is godforsaken.

That's completely retarded. Seriously, how do you except to follow rules that detailed in a war? Seriously, it's people killing people, not the playground.
2007-03-28, 6:17 PM #51
Yeah, that doesn't make much sense, I thought the entire reason behind adopting the M107 was because you could take quick follow-up shots on running targets.

Can't use 50 cals?
That's the strangest thing i ever heard.
2007-03-28, 7:19 PM #53
I think it's because 50. cal's pretty much obliterate human targets. Though, if they didn't want to blow the hell out of someones body I don't see why they still use grenades. . .or most weapons.

I could be wrong about this, but it's what I heard from someone. Who could also be wrong.
My blawgh.
2007-03-28, 7:43 PM #54
But that makes no sense. Unless that rule was made up after they made the 50 cal sniper.
2007-03-28, 8:05 PM #55
The .50 round isn't actually against the Geneva conventions. It started out as US Army policy in Vietnam that you could only use it on equipment. Of course, privates and PFCs would shoot at people and then when getting their *** chewed later by their team leader would reply that they were disabling his canteen.

It stuck, and somewhere the rumor started that it was against the Geneva Conventions. So much so that there are lots of unit SOPs that have that written into them.

Read through the Geneva Convention and it isn't in there. The Hague Accords may have it though, not sure.

However, I think the big reason DoD keeps it going and still teaches it to boots is that .50 ammo is ungodly expensive and they don't want to waste it all on that one froggy guy that Gun Team 3 really wants to kill.

That's really...strange... After all, the M2 .50 HMG has been in service since before WW2, and I really doubt Sherman gunners were using them exclusively as anti-aircraft weapons.

I also don't believe they even remotely "obliterate" human targets. They aren't 20mm, explosive tip, gyro jet bolters. At best they make a rather large exit wound, lets say the size of your fist or so. Blow off a limb if you hit in the right place sure, but "obliterate"?

Obliterate is a fun word. Sure it leaves a lot of graphical exaggeration, but I was just repeating what I had heard.

And I'm sure by this point Fister isn't bored anymore.

Roach, We're only allowed to use shotguns as breaching weapons. But you better believe if thats the first weapon I get my hands on I'm going to use it.

As for the .50's, It depends on what type of round you're using when you shoot a person. Armour piercing rounds would probably product a cleaner shot than say, Ballpoint.

I saw videos, back when I was in training, of Iraqi insurgents getting lit up with the 25mm cannons on the Bradleys. There wasn't a whole lot left of the guy. But I'm sure you've all seen those videos of the .50 cal Sniper teams in the mountains of Afghanistan. Those bodies are literally vaporized. If you haven't seen the videos, check them out on youtube. It's pretty graphic, But it says a lot for American Military.

As for me being bored.. I'm still pretty much bored. Other than watching Smallville and playing AOE3, there is nothing to do here.

I've never physically worn a pair of night-vision goggles but having played "Soldier Of Fortune 2 - Double Helix" as the player can use night-vision goggles at night and its quite useful. The detail can been seen in a very bright green tint and just trying to move around the dark can a pain. The IR Goggles in JK do exactly the same thing (well sort of) - but with them you can see everything. :)

...First off, It's spelled "POG" P O G. Not Pogue, it's not a fashion magazine.

Secondly, I don't know if you've seen them or not, but our new recoilless rifles are small enough to be mistaken for the rifle I saw.
Don't go calling me a Pog when you have no idea what you're talking about.

Yeah, I'm in the TOC because it's 0150 and there isn't anything going on. What does it matter if I want to use a computer in my offtime or while I'm on radio guard?

you being a joe why arent you attached to a line, how many times have you gone outside the wire other then just to move from place to place
2007-03-29, 4:00 PM #73
I was attached to a platoon working with the Iraqi Police. We went out atleast once a day for about a month, Then I got moved back to my original company, Bravo Troop. They've got me pulling radio guard most of the time because all their platoon slots for FO's are full.

I do go out though. Last time we got mortared I went out and did crater analysis.
