It seriously made me want to buy a HD TV and HD DVD or Bluray (depending on which format it will be released in) player JUST for that movie.

If you don't have that stuff, you really need to see it in a theater.

I think somebody is forgetting to understand the symbolism... and the fact that if he had killed Xerxes it would have made the movie REALLY inaccurate to history....
....you mean it already wasn't REALLY inaccurate to history? The movie is extremely entertaining, but to say it is even a little beyond remotely historically accurate is to severely stretch the truth. :p

Also, what's with the "lol maximus was a farmer so he loses"? Leonidas was a life-time soldier that pwned. Maximus was a FARMER that pwned. He didn't even have as much training and experience as Leonidas and he wtfpwned everything. I vote Maximus, though I would vote for Achilles if he were in the poll.

So, because Maximus pwned a lot of soldiers 1 on 1, and he was a farmer, that makes him better than a born, bred, trained warrior who melted faces in horrendously outnumbered combat? (even against mutants)

Your logic escapes me.

Let's not forget that Leonidas would WTFPWN Maximus in a one-on-one fight.

Absolutely no contest. Maximus is neat and all, but he'd just have no chance against Leonidas.

Maximus wasn't just a farmer, he was a general or whatever. I'm sure on his way to general he got plenty of training from the Roman military. Leonidas also had training from the Spartan schools.

The point is not their roots, it's what they are. If you pointed to Maximus and asked him what his profession is he would say farmer. If you pointed at Leonidas and asked him what his profession is he would make a manly noise and kill you with one stab.

its based on a comic man, not the fact.

and again thats why Leonidas would win... comic book characters are larger-than-life and tough as nails... maximus is just a regular joe with a sword.

Yeah, but Maximus didn't get trained ALL HIS LIFE. I'm sure even the real-life leonidas could kill him for just that reason.

EDIT: NOT TO MENTION, Leonidas was descendent from Hercules. FFS, he wins.

*pulls out a box of crayons* Leonidas pwns. Maximus pwns too. Leonidas was a life-time soldier in Sparta. Maximus wasn't. Imagine the havoc if Maximus were a life-time soldier, let alone a life-time soldier of Sparta, as Leonidas was.

Basically, Maximus pwns just as hard as Leonidas does, who has the benefit of life long training. Thus, Maximus wins, and that's just talking about badassness. Maximus has the advantage in one vs one fights because smaller fights are his specialty, whereas Leonidas, being a member of a phalanx, works with bigger engagements, not solo engagements.

Only he doesn't pwn nearly as much as Leo. And he's not descended from Hercules.

Srsly, if you can hit someone hard enough with a shield to the point where they don't get back up...hey.

Shields you say? Nothing compared to TITUS PULLO

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teFX2nw50iA

(Skip to 1:33 to see how a real shield is used)

Note: It's quite gory and all too realistic combat. Titus Pullo is the one in the arena. Lucius Vorenus is the one with the worried look.

It was only rumored that Spartan's are descended from Hercules. Guess that makes you a rumor spreader.

We're talking about a comic book character, not the real Leonidas. Therefore, in fantasy land, I'm pretty sure they're descended from Hercules.

Maximus was a Roman general, I daresay the majority of his career he fought in large engagements. Just because he was solo in most of the fights seen in Gladiator speaks nothing for his lifetime experience.

just look at the 2

leonidas is a fighter and loves to be a fighter
maximus hates fighting and killing and wants to go home and be a farmer

leonidas has an exposed and extremely manly torso
maximus covers his less manly torso with armor

leonidas rocks a manly beard
maximus has glorified stubble

leonidas's wife stabbed a dude
maximus's wife got killed like a noob

leonidas killed giant persian WTFISTHAT
maximus got stabbed by some dude who wanted to bang his own sister...

LOL... I think it's difficult to say actually, they were both VERY VERY bad ***. Though, they are kind of different things to be compared. Where as Maximus was limited by the realism of the film, Leonidas was made in a world of TRUE fantasy. So of course Leonidas has the advantage because of his world IMO.. but my respect for both charactors prevents me from commenting further

Arena scene w/o the annoying music

Edit: They both have some language and gore.

Hey guys,

A friend of mine from this forum just pointed me to this thread. I've got a facebook group started under the same cause, if you guys would be interested in joining. The title is "Leonidas or Maximus: Who would win in a fight?"

We're a little over a hundred strong right now; feel free to join up and invite your friends!

Depends. Do we ban ad bots for what they do, or for what they are?

No. If you did that you'd ban half of massassi.

Leonidas. Maximus had better character development, but Leonidas was just defined as bBadass=True so that was a clear victory.

(Still keeping up with Titus Pullo, though)
