yep, pretty much sums up what I fear about the military. Damn scientists, we gave them toys that were too advanced.

How would you have liked to have been the guy that released the atom bombs over Japan, knowing full well that 99% of the casualties would be civilians, and a heck of a lot more deaths to boot.

And yet, that action may have saved countless more lives than an invasion of Japan. Who knows how many American lives were saved by this action?

the person that was controling the plane had no idea that the bomb was a nuclear bomb.

he probably thought it was a slightly more powerful conventional bomb.

I think a more accurate statement is that they knew their payload was special ... just not *that* special!

I can't wait until they put lasers on jet fighters. That's gonna be cool. Too bad it won't look anything like the movies.

You shouldn't blame the scientists. Controlled nuclear explosions provide a lot of energy and nuclear power stations are a lot more efficient than fossil fuels.
No, blame the military commanders that are desperate to find some military use for any and every scientific breakthrough. Like Bush's 'Star Wars' project.

Since when did Reagan's SDI turn into Bush's Star Wars?

Col. Paul Tibbets had a very good idea of what the payload was capable of. He was one of the people responsible for modifying the B-29 for carrying atomic weapons.

Wait, if the scientists didn't make the toys who did? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Banks and banks of humming machinery! I've never seen so many knobs. We're going to have to do something, Charlie! Try pushing that button there. No? How about that one? No, not that one either. I know! I'll try pushing this one. Hold my hat will you? Good fellow.
