Command & Conquer 3 (First Impressions)
2007-04-05, 8:03 PM #1
Okay, so I've only played the game for a bit right now, but I gotta say, first impressions, it's a great sequel to the other iterations in the series. I've only played through the GDI portion, but so far they're very well done, the effects are excellent, it runs excellently even on high (and considering my system's age, that's saying something), and the models are reminiscent of Supcom, only not quite as good.

Also, the story so far is interesting...the spreading of tiberium is once again a problem, etc etc. But the most interesting thing is the cast. They have the teacher/commander from Starship Troopers, Cameron from House, among many other fairly well known celebs...it's almost creepy.

The only problem I've encountered so far is that the video/audio desyncs like mad on cutscenes, but that's bearable albeit annoying.

Bloody hell i really wish i had a new comp.

The only thing I really really don't like is how much they stole from Dawn of War...unless I just missed them, there are troops with jump jets now, and they didn't have those before. Plus a lot of the models just look straight out of Dawn of War. I dunno, just could be me...

GDI had jump jet troopers in Tiberian Sun, as did the Allies in RA2. It's nothing new.

yeah, I remember the ones in Tiberium Sun.

I never played Tiberian Sun but I'm surprised I missed them in RA2.

Quote:
ROCKETEER: Very similar to the Jump-jet infantry in Tiberian Sun. With his rocket pack and a bazooka, the rocketeer shuns walking in favor of flying, making him excellent for quick counterattacks. Use him for both land and air targets. Great defense against Soviet Kirovs, but keep em out of the way of enemy air defenses.

Questions.

1.What is the scale like?
2. Whats with the whole "City building" part?
2007-04-05, 8:38 PM #10
Scale is about the same as it always has been. You can zoom and move the camera around but that's nothing new...

I dunno what you mean by "City Building". Unless you're talking about garrisoning yourself in buildings?

A while back there was talk of city building gameplay as well as usual RTS stuffage. Guess not.

So this one doesn't have James Earl Jones I take it? Thats a shame.

Some of the nod missions are ****ing TOUGH.

I get my *** kicked at this.

BTW The skrin are so ****ing ridiculously overpowered on Multiplayer it isn't even funny!
2007-04-06, 12:20 AM #15
The game's amazing, I thought that when I'd just played through the GDI portion, but the NOD campaign is TONS better.

The tried and true CnC formula is barely deviated from, but is still tons of fun. All the famous faces in the cutscenes keep it fun, they don't take themselves too seriously.

And yeah, the Skrin are way overpowered

I'll be picking it up soon. I hear Kane is as creepy as ever.
"Jayne, this is something the Captain has to do for himself"

"N-No it's not!"

"Oh."

I hear Billy Dee Williams is in it, this makes me happy.

I'll pick it up once I've got the cash.
nope.

Kane goes up alot on the creepy factor once all 3 campaigns are finished....

Somewhat love scrin Devastators and Planetary Assault Carriers though... the latter is blatantly ripped from starcraft and it pwns.

Are they battlecruisers? Because the irony of that is battlecruisers aren't meant for planetary assault....at least, they weren't originally.

They're just like the carriers from Starcraft.

Complete with impenetrable shield and a million annoying tiny shooting ships.

C&C and Starcraft always had a back and forth thing going for stealing...for instance, calling bombardment with snipers, and the goliath.

Is it anything like RA2 or is it more like C&C Generals? I loved RA2, but I really didn't care much at all for Generals. So basically is it more of a revamped RA2 with better graphics, ect ect, or what?

Well considering it's C&C3 I'd assume its like a revamped Tiberian Sun with better graphics.

I'd suggest waiting a while before asking someone for their cd key though. :P Oh, and your friend.
nope.

Actually that was complete bull****, but I'd rather not get in to that right now. :argh:

Westwood had nothing to do with this game. :downswords:

...Except that every CnC game ever was made by them?
...And they are the ones that made the game? Albeit as part of EA but its still them.

c&c 3 is soo much better than supcom, i can't stand it. the units are cookie-cutter across all three sides with minor variations in the (crappy) models, not to mention the freaking hud that takes up 2/3 of the screen and the fact that they put all the stress on the proc instead of the video card. I'm also glad c&c went back to its roots and decided to stay away from generals' story-telling style, all in-engine. that said i need to pick this up already.

That has to be the worst comparison ever. "They put all the stress on the CPU. That means the game sucks." Also, Supcom's units are kind of cookie cutter...but what were you expecting? They weren't making a game with revolutionary units.

Some of Westwood's employees ended up at EA Los Angeles, but most of them are at Petroglyph. Really, Westwood has almost nothing to do with this game.

jesus you guys are hard to bull****. i plagiarized someone who i think knew what they were talking about. i'm just a c&c fanboy i guess. and if it's true it's a perfectly good reason, it lags like a *****.

i was expecting a game with more depth, honestly. the options provided are conducive to a strategy game but differences among the sides wouldve expanded it so much more, and given it a longer life and just made it more fun. i guess that's what expansions are for? at this point i appreciate the concept, but i don't enjoy the game.

Dear god that last NOD mission was tough... but unlocking the Scrin campaign was totally worth it.

yeah the last nod was nasty, I managed it by bizzarly bugging the AI into some odd anti nuke tactics (not building in their base and building alot moving steadily west) It ended with the worlds most insane anti aircraft position (an outpost surronded by pure AA guns)and an Ion cannon built 100 metres from my defence line and barracks.

I can't get past that mission where you escort the liquid tiberium, becuase I want to meet the secondary objective, but it keeps getting shot at. >: (
