New cell phone
2007-04-06, 7:54 PM #1
I won a new cell phone from work. I had my choice of either the T-Mobile MDA (suggested retail: $399.99) or the T-Mobile Dash (suggested retail: $349.99). I picked the MDA, because of the touchscreen functionality. Makes all the difference when it comes to web browsing. Also, the MDA has much more memory than the Dash.

Anyway, post your cellphones!

Technically it's the Sprint PPC6800, but I couldn't find a decent one under that name.

Sony Erricson K800i. I chose it cos the camera is 3.2 megapixels and I dont have a digital camera. It therefore serves 2 purposes for me.

Now if they'll just release a phone with a kick-*** camera and a 10gb memory for mp3s...

Except Rogers (), not Cingular.

I actually bought it used for cheap a few months ago because I couldn't stand my old phone any more (Motorolo v220). It only has to last me until November when my plan is up.

The fact that they're increasing the Megapixels on phone cameras doesn't really mean crap.

For the most part they all use just about the same size CCD, so they're all going to take pictures that look like ***. Especially at the higher resolutions.

Well, the same is true for DSLRs too.

They keep ramping up the megapixels like it's a feature. But, for example, the Nikon D70s and D80 for the most part have the same sized CCD.

Sure the autofocus is faster on the D80, it takes bigger pictures, and it has some other features I won't use, but thats not what consumers are looking at. They go "OH, BIGGER MEGAPIXEL IS MUST BE BETTER." And while they're both great cameras I just think it's dumb that MEGAPIXELs are treated as the measure of a great camera these days.

How does it perform under low-light conditions?
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

This is very true. Unless you're going to get a Canon 5d or something... there's not a very big difference.

Phone photo quality - Judge for yourself. All the below pics were taken with my K800i.

The exterior car and scenery shots were taken with pretty much ideal lighting, the shot of my engine was taken without the flash in low light, and the shot of my cat was taken with the light source behind the subject.

I love this phone more than I love my feet. It's awesome. I can show you some good sites for it when you get it.

Also, Spork:
I love your car!!! I wish we got those over here in the States. Go figure Ford wouldn't bring one of their best cars to it's home country.

Gracias :)

It seems Ford Australia is almost as inept as Ford US - They produce probably their best platform ever with the BA, couple it with unquestionably their best engine ever with the Barra, yet design it so it cant be modified to left-hand-drive hence completely killing any export potential :saddowns:

Mine is through metroPCS. It's a surprisingly nice network, if you're in the area.

Sucks to be you.

I got a Samsung T-309. Not the best, but it does it's job (CALLING) very well, and has a nice battery life.

Sanyo Katana (6700)

My major gripe about it is that the ringer is so incredibly low volume that a lot of times I miss it. Even if I try to boost the volume on ringtones that I get, they sound distorted as all hell. I kinda wish I went with the Razr in that respect, but it wasn't with Sprint at the time.

I just recently purchased a T-Mobile MDA. I love the phone. My biggest problem with it at first was the notification it displayed every time I sent a text message. Since I text message a lot it quickly became very annoying, and I hated how it would vibrate telling me the message was sent if I had it on vibrate.

Luckily, I was able to find out how to remove it via the registry. Now i love the phone. I browse the web a lot on it, and during my lunch break at work I read the latest CTRL+ALT+DEL comic (depending on the day anyway).

yeah, the t309's pretty nice for a more basic phone.

And FCTuner, yeah, I just discovered that vibrate on sent message last night... It seriously vibrates for like 30 seconds straight. How'd you turn it off?
