How did you pay for college?
2007-04-10, 6:10 AM #41
I had a band scholarship and an ACT scholarship my first year. Lost the ACT scholarship, and gave up the band one.

Mom paid the rest until I graduated.

Then when I went back to take classes to get certified to teach, I got a loan for what I thought was $2500 plus a $2500 matching grant. I was mistaken and it ended up being a $5000 loan. :downswords: Got my first PC with it, though.

Parents. Hopefully I'll be able to do the same for my kids one day.

Student loans and that thing where your parents put money away for you when you're a baby and the government matches it. Got a couple grants this year, too.

Bar accomodation etc, its free! :D

You have no idea how much it annoys me that top-up fees for England were passed by a margin of 5 votes when 40-odd Scottish MPs voted for them knowing it would have no effect on their own constituencies :argh:
(See: The West Lothian question)

I'm getting by on a mixture of savings, an extra boost from inheritance after my grandmother died and my student loan (thankfully with no interest to pay just normal inflation)

Anyone else in that boat?

That's exactly what my sister is going to do. She went to uni planning on becoming a plastic surgeon. She changed her major and is now well on her way to becoming an archeologist, despite my parents' groaning.

She had the Bright Futures scholarship pay for pull tuition though, and had a whole mess of other scholarships from the school and the community. I'll hopefully have the same thing going for me.
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

Part-time work as a software tester. My freshman year I got great federal grants that paid most of my tuition, but I saved up too much money and couldn't get them the next year.

Financial aid, food stamps.

It's ghetto, but I might actually be able to save money in college.
