Here's what the supreme court decided: States are allowed to ban partial birth abortions.

That's it.

What does this mean? It means states may pass legislation that makes it illegal to abort a baby once the birthing process starts. Yes, that's right. We're talking about killing babies that are being born.

And the article is on the webpage of the Center for Reproductive Rights. How could it possibly be biased?

Dude stop bringing logic into this conversation. Seriously.
2007-04-20, 3:29 PM #8
Logic? Please. I can't beat them with logic, because there can't be any give and take. I think abortion is murder, and nothing they say will convince me otherwise. It wouldn't be a very pleasant conversation.
Wikissassi sucks.

I don't see any problem. Women shouldn't have the right to order someone's murder.
2007-04-20, 4:11 PM #10
Yeah, that was so biased I stopped reading halfway.

The ONLY time abortion is okay is when the mother's own life is at risk. It should be the mother's choice at that time.

Anyway, I'm sure this will be a massive religious debate soon enough.

This thread = No killing babies.

Law = no killing babies.

Killing babies while they are being born = killing babies.

masturbation is muder

therefore, since muder can't be stopped, let mothers kill their sons at any age before eighteen

Awesome JediKirby. I remember reading a story about a man who committed suicide because his wife had an abortion. I wish I could find it. Personally, if my woman ever killed one of my children, then she's next on the list. No one would even bat an eye if you avenged one of your children after they were born..

I agree with Kirby's opinion.

If a girl was raped, then I might not have a problem with an abortion, because it was not her choice. But if she had consensual sex, then she should have to pay the price and at least have to go through having the baby, and give it up for adoption if she wants. It's part of the price you pay when you have unprotected sex

I posted about this article in the last thread concerning abortion, but no one ever responded. I'm going to repost it verbatim and I wonder about anti-abortionists opinions on it.

Is Heaven Populated Chiefly by the Souls of Embryos?
"Between 60 and 80 percent of all naturally conceived embryos are simply flushed out in women's normal menstrual flows unnoticed."
For Christians who claim that embryos are people with souls and that abortion is murder, this problem should be much, much more pressing than abortion.

"If the embryo loss that accompanies natural procreation were the moral equivalent of infant death, then pregnancy would have to be regarded as a public health crisis of epidemic proportions: Alleviating natural embryo loss would be a more urgent moral cause than abortion, in vitro fertilization, and stem-cell research combined," declared Michael Sandel, a Harvard University government professor, also a member of the President's Council on Bioethics.

Yet people do nothing about it. Shouldn't anti-abortion Christians being campaigning like crazy for a law requiring the rescue of millions upon millions of "unborn babies" being menstruated out every year? Of course not, because they would sound absurd.

An interesting thought experiment put forth by the article for people who believe that embryos are full-persons with souls:
A fire breaks out in a fertility clinic and you have a choice: You can save a three-year-old child or a Petri dish containing 10 seven-day old embryos. Which do you choose to rescue?

Even though the article isn't new by any means, it brought to my attention some really, really interesting points that I think would be difficult to refute by anti-abortionists. What do you guys think?

No, that's not right. The procedure banned is called IDX, and occurs during the second trimester. There is no "birthing process." This ruling is notable because previous restrictions on abortion have always been struck down unless they contain an exception to protect the woman's health; this ban was upheld despite containing no such exception. And yes, it is hard to figure all that out from the first article, as it is written in an inflammatory and uninformative manner.

When it comes right down to it, abortion shouldn't necissarily be illegal. If two concenting adults who are both healthy decide to ****, then there should bo no option for either of them to opt out of the child's responsibilities (This is if they're in disagreement). However, if they're two concenting adults that have sex and are in agreement that the child was an accident, then my opinion is that it is their choice to abort. I would hope people would have the child and give it up for adoption, but that would be up to the mother, not the man. My opinion only applies to unagreeing parties. I'm rather torn about two adults that want to abort a child. On one hand, it'll be a future living being. On the other, it's not, and it wouldn't have been, so it doesn't honestly matter.

And in the end, I have to side with choice on the matter because I am neither a future parent, nor anyone's god. Someone else aborting a baby (When both adults concent) isn't going to effect me in the slightest, and it's none of my business. While I might concider it stupid and murder, it really isn't.

My "pro-life" stance isn't really based on religion. I hate the practice because I think that abortions really degrade what we are as human beings. I mean in our society, it is accepted that we reach in the mother's womb, and yank out a developing fetus/embryo. I don't know the most common reasons for abortions but I'm going to speculate that they are mostly the "oops!" button. To me, that is sickening. People will claim that it is necessary for rape/incest. Incest you miiiiiight have sway with me since it can cause all kinds of genetic abnormalities. Rape, I say why take a most horrific event and adding more to it with an abortion.

Here's something interesting to think about. What exactly is being thrown away when an abortion happens? The unborn fetus has no personality, it isn't even a full human yet. Hell some studies have shown that humans don't gain sapience until upwards of a year old. Now I don't condone the killing of babies, but it's interesting to think about.

Though it is stopping some potential human being short in some sense. MAYBE YOU JUST KILLED THE NEXT FEYNMAN. :o

I'm very conflicted about abortion. On the one had, my slightly libertarian views make me side with JediKirby, while my dissatisfaction with current perceived cultural trends makes me side with Dalf.

If it were up to me, I'd make abortion legal and then work to change the cultural perception of it so it doesn't become an "oops button"
