Hopefully anyone who does that anyway will be made an hero, regardless if it's real pork or not. "an hero" in the full internet sense of the term.

Not only is it disrespect, but I can imagine you're (being 82nd, not spook) putting your fellows in danger, more importantly.

It's a waste of time to heat MRE's. They're just as good cold.

Did you hear about the "First Strike" meals that the Army is buying? Supposedly they have all the food you need for a day in one package. Plus it weighs 2lbs less than 3 MREs would and has onle 500 calories less.
They took out all the fluff items, though. Like the little packet with Toilet Paper, Tobasco, matches.. And took away the heater. No candy, no deserts. But apparently they are healthier for troops on the go.

Btw, Ingredients: Imitation Boneless Pork Ribs (Pork, Water, Tomato Powder, Salt, Dextrose, Sugar, Sodium Tripolyphosphate, Worcestershire Sauce Powder (sugar, sodium diacetate, salt, dextrose, corn syrup solids, spice, citric acid, caramel color, dehydrated garlic and onion, cellulose gum, malic acid, natural flavor (OHMIGOD, say it ain't so!), onion powder, soybean oil, smoke flavor, grill flavor (malto-dextrin flavor (from partially hydrogenated cottonseed and soybean oil), modified corn starch, corn syrup solids), flavorings.

Yeah, it's supposed to be the LRRP ration concept come to fruition. I wish they would keep some of the stuff, I use the salt to brush my teeth and I only can carry so much hand sanitizer, and I hate getting the ****s bceause I didn't even wipe my fingers off, the wipes are nice. Other stuff is fprety much fluffy stuff though.

I would love them when actually in the field and stuffing my ruck with chow, but when living inside the wire, when you're just drawing chow off of a pallet anyway, I would much rather have a full meal with some candy. Except those god damned charms, make it rain every time...

What is the purpose of Candy in MRE's? There's no real nutritional value.

To keep people from *****ing. It's a comfort item. Same reason they issue Marines Flak vests. We aren't allowed to bleed without permission anyway, but it feels better when we get hit if there is a ceramic plate in the way.

We get most of our contracts through the Army. In fact, we get almost everything second hand from you guys. Dragonskin hasn't been approved by DoD for issue, it "failed the tests" (yeah, it definitely seems like a fishy situation to me) that the Army put it though.

Get this, the guy who ran the dragonskin tests is CEO of Point Blank, who make the interceptor OTV. Talk about bias...

So you'll probably get it fore we do, if anyone gets it. I know theres rumors that several general grade officers are wearing the system around Iraq, but I don't know how true that is...

We have a new system being tested by a few NCO's in our Brigade, we're supposed to get it in November.

But anyway, It doesn't open up like the IBA does. You just slide it down over your shoulders. Other than having virtually no padding on the shoulder part, I've heard good things.

Everything is velcro. So it's easy to move stuff. There are big velcro patches that MOLLE on, and then you just stick the pouches wherever you want. Plus it has a built in hydration system.

It's the CIRAS system, I think.

It has quick release incase you fall into the water, and so much molle real estate it makes me look at my otv and my webgear and cry. The waistbelt (I think its called a cumberbund actually) supposedly takes most of the weight off your shouldesr. It does look pretty cool.

As for the integrated hydration system, I would kill for that. I have that Spec-ops HUMP system and it works pretty well, since I ALWAYS keep a camelbak on me, and hate the extra straps from the issue one, but I would love one that was integrated.

Yeah, that's it. It's had strong approval from the NCO club. Officers don't care much for it, for some reason.

It probably takes longer to get off when they're too tried to walk around with it some more.

*hopes that no officers lurk on Massassi*

I jest, in part. There are some pansy officers, but I've been under a few hardasses too.

I thought Spook was wrong. They are imitation pork ribs but they do contain real pork. Remember, you are contributing to your fellow soldiers being murdered by giving kids pork. (sarcasm not directed at 82nd_Fister)

I got it, it's not "imitation pork:ribs" it's "imitation:pork ribs".

Thanks for clearing that up guys.

But still, in MY unit at least, there would have been an NJP at least somewhere in there...

I guess the Army rolls different than we do.

How could you not have read my comment? You responded to it. My sarcasm was because somebody else implied that since they give pork products to kids that results in attacks that kill his comrades. That's ridiculous. I don't have a problem with him passing out things to kids because they contain pork. I have a problem with giving them anything because it is bad practice. In a way, the afore mentioned member was right but not for the reason he suspects. The evil doers use virtually everything that is passed out to devise booby traps. Crafty bastards.

Spook, what is NJP?

Since they don't know it's pork, that's really not the case.

It's not like it hurts them.

Never heard of it referred to that way, abbreviated. Still, strange that you describe lax ROE but you'd get UCMJ for giving a kid a pork MRE? No, the Army doesn't "roll" like that. Most soldiers are disciplined enough not to give locals things that can be used against them. At least I hope so.

Yeah, I'm a moron

The thing is we all hate these people, Atleast my unit does, Because they will **** you at every turn. We've tried being nice but they just don't care.

So, I don't see what the problem is. I would understand your position if I had given them poisoned food.. But come off it. Seriously, It probably contains such a small amount of pork that they wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway. Plus not may Hajj around here can read English.
It's not like I'm holding a gun to their head and making them eat it, either

Just saying..

Why are you calling these people Hajj's? Isn't that an ethnic slur?
>>untie shoes
2007-04-29, 9:45 PM #72
Because I don't know the name of every Iraqi in Iraq. So the generic term used by soldiers is Haji (meaning one Iraqi) and Hajj - Plural (many Iraqi's).
If my smoking bothers you, don't breathe.
2007-04-29, 9:46 PM #73
Yeah and they also called vietnamese people - and -. That doesn't mean those terms are acceptable.

EDIT: How does me using those terms to illustrate a point constitute having downs? I don't see any :downswords: in fisters posts.

[Fister used "Hajji", a title that is commonly used by many in the Middle East, often in front of their own name. You used racial slurs that are in no way not offensive.]

Hardly. Hajji is someone who has made the pilgrimage to Mecca. Most Iraqis would think it's odd you think it's an ethnic slur.

Yes I know what it really means. I also know it is used as an ethnic slur to describe middle eastern people.

I suppose if you mean it to be offensive...like how you could offend a nun by calling her "sister" in an insulting way I suppose.

2007-04-29, 10:03 PM #77
See it's not really insulting. The Hajj is the pilgrimage that all Muslims make to new mecca if they can. A Haji is a Muslim who HAS made the pilgrimage.

I reckon this name was chosen by our guys because it was easy to remember. Plus, I didn't make it up, so don't get mad at me.

What I don't understand is: you detest the locals, but when kids are willing to come up to you, you decide to depreciate their beliefs by giving them those MREs? Unless you are just throwing away MREs at people, the kids wouldn't be coming up to you if they hated you. Surely, one of the kids would get concerned over what the "meat" is and share the concerns with other locals.
