Spider-Man 3 countdown thread!
2007-04-28, 10:01 PM #1
alright, I have been anticipationg this film since I was 5, and first "saw/heard about" venom. Granted he looks a bit different in the movie, but it;s the character none the less. I am very excited for this film, and what I have seen from it thus far looks extremely promising. I'll hopefully get to watch it on wednesday (roommate's Girlfriend still works at the movie theatre and they may get a DLP - usually loaded in the mid week instead of friday) so hopefully I'll get to see it 2 days before the public, which would be nice. I will mroe than likely be posting on here wednesday night with a review..

BEGIN DISCUSSION OF SPIDER-MAN 3!!! (possible topic: does anyone even want to see this movie because of sandman or the stupid "new goblin"?! I noticed that sandman wasn't even shown in the newest trailer - just one 2 second clip of him as the complete sand creature.. that's all)

Can't wait.. It's been a long few months waiting for the release date.

Spiral, if you get to see it early, keep it to yourself, or I may have to hunt you down and rip out your testicles with a rusty fork.

Oh man, i am SO going to be there. I have my calander marked for the day it comes out. Ill be standing out side the theatre when everybody else arrives, scratching on the doors and licking the glass. Just dont spoil anything important when you tell us about it, we may have to hurt you.

Cus spoiler tags or not, you know the fans are all going to read it anyway.

I know i will.

EDIT
______

o, and by the way, the new green goblin WAS in the comics so you cant really say its a dumb addition. there were actually several green goblins and a few hobgoblins. it was like a position they just kept passing on to somebody new after the one before them died. Harry was actually the first hobgoblin though, (and like the fourth goblin overall, i think) but other than that its right out of the comics and i accept it.

I really enjoy the Spiderman movies, more so the first than the second, because of the great story telling and character development.

However, the way the character development has progressed in the series is a bit of a mix bag. In the first movie, the character development of Peter and Mary Jane was done very well. Considering that the first movie had to set up the origin story of Spiderman it made since for it to be character development heavy. However, in the second film, I felt they over did the emphasis on Peter and Mary Jane's relationship that it started to feel like a chick flick - so much drama that it got a bit annoying. The poor villain's importance to the plot felt underwhelming as if his impact on the story was nearly meaningless. Personally, if they had took out the villain's presence in the movie, the storyline wouldn't have changed all that much! (I'm exaggerating obviously but hopefully you get my point)

I just really hope Spiderman 3 doesn't put too much emphasis on Peter and Mary Jane and give some good attention to the villains, but not as much as the attention given to them like in the batman films.

I think there gonna focus mainly on Peter vs Harry, but i wouldn't be surprised to see ALOT of Mary Jane. They've built up such a large audience i dont think they would risk straying from the pattern now

I hate it when they put too many bad guys in the one superhero movie.
It makes them downplay the bad guys' abilities.
Any one of the bad guys should be difficult enough for spiderman to spend the entire movie trying to beat.

In the cartoon, Spiderman was always fighting more than one bad guy, then Rhino would just show up out of nowhere, so having too many bad guys isn't a problem.

I'm finding it hard to get excited about this movie, because the last one sucked. The first movie was great, but the second had too much Parker. The whole middle of the movie wasn't very interesting at all. I really don't think they used Doc Ock to his full potential, either. I liked the train scene and when they fought on the side of the building, and that's about it.

It used to seem like forever waiting for a movie to come out when I was a kid. Now I hardly notice. I'll probably go see it but I'm in no way anxious to see any movie anymore. They come out when they come out.

Riiiiight.

Honestly, I think Spiderman is one of the best movie franchises ever. These movies are quite a lot better than any other comic book series, and they haven't skipped a beat yet. We've seen (and in my opinion continue to see) lousy Batman movies. They destroyed all hope for X-Men with that crap "The Last Stand" and courtesy of Bryan Singer we got a creepy stalker version of Superman that... well... doesn't do very many "super" things.

So far, Spiderman has been 10 for 10 from where I'm standing. Sam Raimi is clearly the guy to call if you're ever in the mood to make a Spiderman movie, and I'm glad Sony Pictures knew that. I have no doubt that Spiderman 3 is going to be a home run.

Yeah it is. The fight scenes, the struggles between hero and villain, the climactic build up... all much, much cooler when there is one villain.

When does the game come out? Within a week of the movie, right? Though I hated Spiderman 2, I thought the game was pretty damn good, and loved it's scale. It also had one of the best boss fights ever (last fight with Mysterio). I would hope the 3rd game is of the same quality, and that the Wii controls don't suck.

Stat and Vinny are the only ones talking sense. These movies are horrible. Bad acting, watered down storylines, and comic abuses abound. Overly franchised piles of crap that don't do any of the amazing spiderman comics and cartoons justice.

I don't understand why someone would go into a Spider-Man movie praise thread and bash the movie.. obviously if you don't like it, then why are you here... maybe that's why there are only 2 other people "talking sense" on this thread... maybe because people usually don't click on threds, read them, and reply if they don't like the topic.

On the same topic, I agree that these movies have some very cheesy lines and acting at times, but that is what makes it "charming" in my mind. I have laughed a lot at the expense of the sheer production of these films, but I always keep going back because I have fun while watching them. (a few good examples of funny things in these films are the sounds that certain charactors make when they are getting beat up. the fact that the green goblin screams like a girl in Spider-Man 1 when he's in the flaming building.. that was really funny. In spider-man 2 the whole scene happens again, and you half expect to see Doc Ock in the flaming building this time.. that was funny... some of the lines are just aweful... "aunt may, aunt may.. is that an angel.. ; gee, did I really say that?!"
But as I said, I enjoy the movies because I try not to take them too seriously, and just enjoy watching them (some scenes are actually done very well, and look very cool)

Anyway, what I meant about the new goblin is that he's not even a goblin yet, and he doesn't even have a glider... it seems like what harry is in this movie is like a precurser to Green Goblin 2.... it's just harry with a hoverboard and a paintball mask.. I think Raimi even said he didn't want harry to be "Green Goblin 2" or anything, just Harry using some of his dad's stuff... (BTW, i know that harry was GG2 in the comics, and I am pretty sure harry was NEVER the hobgoblin..)

Here's my thoughts on the villians and their roles in Spider-Man 3...

1. Sandman - Spidey needed SOMEONE to fight while in the black suit.

2. Harry - Peter wouldn't fight Harry in Spider-Man 2 when Harry repeatedly slapped him in the face (which i thought was really funny when I first saw it).. While having the black suit Peter kills, or nearly kills Harry, and realizes that the suit has made him do some things he never would have done before. Because of this, Peter gets rid of the black suit.

3. Venom - Symbiote gets on Brock and makes Venom for the final few battles of the film.

Atleast that is how I think they might play it out, again, I could be completely wrong.

Apparantly the reason he ditches the black suit is because he slaps the hell out of MJ one night when they get into a fight.

Well he's probably gonna slap her a few times... and then realize he's acting like a giant douche... and then he's going to go to a church and use the bell to create low frequency sound that will disrupt the symbiot suit so he can rip it off. Eddie Brock is in the downstairs of the church and the symbiot leeches down onto him.

Of course I could be wrong (and by could be I mean I'm certain that I'm not).

The first Spider-Man was somewhat tolerable.
I hated MJ for being the jilting whore that she is, and the fact that we were supposed to be happy for her and Peter.
I'll probably see the third one if only because it'd seem a bigger waste of time to not complete the trilogy.

The second movie really killed the series for me. Peter was a completely selfish ******* (hello, you're simply no longer a superhero, but you can at least shout, "Hey, leave the guy alone!" and bring attention to his being mugged) and MJ left a man at the altar and we, the audience, are supposed to be happy for her.

:suicide:

On the plus side, Alfred Molina did a good job as Doc Oc, but that's because he's Alfred Molina, and has nothing to do with the movie itself.

Agreed. I only really knew two people who disliked the spider-man movies... hmm. Oh well, it's not going to ruin the movie for me if a few massassians don't like it.

Anyway, yeah, there has been a lot of people complaining about how small venom looks in comparison to how he was portrayed in the comics, but if you look at some of the early versions of Venom, he really wasn't that much bigger than spider-man.. the HULK venom didn't come about till much later... here's some pics of the slimmer venom.. Some of these figures are newer figures, but they show that there have been slimmer incarnations of venom BEFORE they did it for the movie. and by "slimmer" I mean a little bit bigger than spider-man.

Personally I think the design in the movie looks perfect.

There are actually idiots out there that think the venom in the trailer is a fake and the one in the movie will be "ten times sweeter" and to that I simply shake my head sadly knowing that people out there are so stupid.

Antony and Spiral have pretty much said exactly what my thoughts are...

Particularily Antony's post about the movies being good for what they are. While I did enjoy the most recent Batman, you have to look at all the other comic book movies that have been made recently and compare them to the Spiderman movies. On doing that, you'll see that the Spiderman movies have literally set a standard that has not beem matched. Hellboy, for example, was really lame. The Punisher was ok. The Hulk was ok. etc.. etc.. Spiderman on the other hand (both movies) were good. Certainly not incredibly, but good solid action movies, and certainly well worth the 6 - 10 dollars it will take to see them in theaters. I'm very much looking forward to Spiderman 3.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

I agree with this, I think it went aroun dPeter and MJ WAAAAY too much.. no one cares about that.. and if you edit all the doc ock scenes together it would total about 20 minutes.. which is terrible.. and I was concerned about that cause NOW THERE ARE 3 villians fighting for screen time between MJ's "bear with wide canyon" ways... My only fear is that they spend way too much time on Peter and MJ again, which they probably will :argh:
