I liked that they spent so much time with Pete and MJ. Going into the second movie that was the only thing I was thinking about. "are pete and my going to get together?" I really liked it.

And watch the first few minutes of the first movie. Pete says in his voice-over that this, like any story worth telling, is al about a girl.

oh, also I'd like to say that I may be one of those idiots that think venom will be cooler in the movie than he is in the trailers... not because I think they are lieing to us in the trailers, but because I am 90% positive that the suit changes through out venom's screen time.... I reached this comclusion from several pictures of the costume that have been released.

The most noticable change is the spider on his chest... it changes from a small black one (almost like spidey's) to a big white one... here are the progression pictures I have found

little spider=

http://laboratory.sorrowind.net/aosm3-07.jpg

slightly bigger spider (morphing into final spider - you can see teh spider's legs starting to wrap around to his back)=
http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w242/braverman02/Venomwebbing.png

fully formed spider=
http://laboratory.sorrowind.net/venom6.jpg
http://laboratory.sorrowind.net/venom2.jpg : art from standee at wal-mart
http://laboratory.sorrowind.net/venommartcn9.jpg : art from standee at wal-mart (closer)
http://laboratory.sorrowind.net/venom10.jpg : art from the slurpee cups

I see no reason to have Topher in full make up on set with these costumes unless they planned on shooting them. And if the spider changes, why stop there? I actually am also going to take 1 step further and suggest that what we have seen in the trailers and pictures MAY NOT be Venom's final/true form. I came to this comclusion when looking at all of the Venom collectibles online.. There is one statuette that they will not release the photos of yet.. and at this point we have already seen venom from the movie, so why not show us the picture? Also judging by the "sample/teaser" picture they posted from it, it looks to be MUCH MUCH larger than the venom in the trailers.. and he has MUCH more menacing claws... here's the "sample" pic of this maquette...
http://www.forbiddenplanet.co.uk/images/D/D6506.jpg

So it is my belief that Venom starts out looking almost exactly like the black spider-man (except with the mouth) and as it progresses, the symbiote changes as it "adapts" to brock...

Again, this is only a theory, but I think I have based it on good evidence

I know, the whole thing behind spider-man was the love interest, but he already has her, so enough.. I want to see ACTION!

I meant people that think he's ENTIRELY different.

And there's a new tv spot on youtube where you can see him bearing down on peter while wearing the symbiot and the suit is all flying all over the place. It looks sweet.

yeah, i saw that, but I heard that's just the symbiote, not venom.. after it comes off of brock or something.. again, that source isn't too reliable, and it may very well be venom

I think it's a good theory. And I like that you dig up all of the proof you can find. I was working at a Wal-Mart a few weeks ago and I noticed that picture of Venom on the shelf. It was really distracting :)

That's another thing that has me feeling worried about this movie: Topher Grace as Venom. Has there been any footage released of him acting this part?

Personally, I would have liked to have seen Jake Busey in this role. Seriously. He can do crazy/angry pretty damn well.

Won't most of that be in the CG venom rather than the Brock character?

Jake Busey would do well as Cleetus Kassady aka Carnage.... not Eddie Brock.

there is a few quick scenes of thoper in the movie, but the scenes are too quick to really judge his character.

I did however watch some behind the scenes things on it, and topher seemed much more interested in his character and much more serious than toby mcgwire does. So i think he will do well. Toby is kind of jumping around and such in his interview, where topher is very serious.

No... apparantly some people out there think the best way to accomplish the effects in this movie is to have a guy in a spiderman suit swing from a rope.

Why doesn't Parker (Potter? Parkman? Porkman?) get the crazy alien mouth when puts the black suit on?

Yikes.

Where do they come from?! Really. Sometimes people are just so retarded it hurts my fragile little mind.

For instance:

I go to a pub quiz most Sundays at my local pub. The landlady (who runs this business I feel enclined to remind you) is reading the questions from a printout in front of her yet she mispronounces... (here cometh the list)

Gondola (as GondOHla)
French Guiana (as French Ghana)
Infamous (as in-famous)
Pompey (a nickname for a football team - should rhyme with "Stompy" - she comes out with Pompeii)

And a host of others. It's not like she isn't just READING THEM OFF A PAGE.

I mispronounced two of those when reading them to myself.

I think it has to do with Peter having an actual mask over his mask. Plus he has more control over venom when he wears the symbiot, then when Eddy wears the symbiot.

Though, there might be an instance in the movie where venom will get control of peter and we see the mouth. That's just a guess though.

Nope, no Venomly mouth for Peter. (I should know, I've already seen the film)

And nah, comparisons to a videogame are unfounded, at least videogames with superheroes have lots of action. Can't be said for this film. XD

A bunch of my friends are going to see it at midnight. The movie looks interesting, and I will see it eventually, but I am not sure if it's worth the effort to stay up late and be tired the next day.

Yeah, there's not much character development either. At least... no well written character development. TEENAGE ANGST does not suit characters in their twenties. ;D

As to the fight scenes, lemme see... New Goblin, Sandman, Sandman, New Goblin, Venom + Sandman team-up! Venom on his own doesn't feel man enough to fight Spidey so he asks the Sandman for help , thing is, with the exception of the final fight most of these are only a few minutes long.

I like how many people nowadays decide to chalk up depression and/or someone having problems with their life to "teen angst". Very nice.

When your main character begins to look like a member of Good Charlotte (down to the eyeliner) he IS angsting. And there's a difference between a well written and acted depression and well, pouting and angry shouting all the time. Which is what Toby, Kirsten and James do for a good duration of the film.

I've seen well acted & written depressions, I've seen actors handle troubled characters well, the writers and actors of Spider-Man 3 however fail in my opinion. Which is odd considering they pulled it off in Spider-Man 2.

Ok, so this may be a touch controversial, but I think I speak for everyone when I say Fall Out Boy suck plums.

Ok, just got back from watching it, and I must say that I was not impressed. This is horrible news for me, since I really enjoyed the first 2 films, and I have been waiting for a movie with venom in it since I was 6. I'm nat saying ti was a bad movie, but it was the worst spider-man movie yet IMO... Here is my complete review..

Plot:
The first problem I noticed with this film is it seemd that the pacing was completely messed up. Not only this, but it seemed that they wrote in things at the last minute to fill int he gaps, not giving proper explinations for things that could have been easily fixed. I then noticed that the new composer almost ruined MANY scenes in the movie (there is actually a "swing" song playing during one of the new goblin/spiderman fight scenes. WTF). As for the symboit theme, it sounded more like an X-Men theme than anything.

Sandman:
So sandman is running from the police and enters a testing ground, ok that's fine.. then he falls into a giant concrete bowl that's filled with sand. We are to understand this is the "testing ground". There is no monitoring equiptment of any kind on this experiment (except for a scale that shows a weight increase when flint marco lands on the sand..) so they run this test blind (which I still don't understand what they were running a TEST ON.. basically if flint marco wasn't there, it would have just been a "sand stirring test"... after the "test" no one even follows up on the test, the scientists are forgotten, and after a few hours of being sand, sandman pulls himself together and walks off... no one seems to notice. (sandman does look VERY cool in nearly all of his scenes though)

Plot:
At this point the symbiot has already crashed, and has followed peter to his room, but since the camera isn't on it, it decides to sit around for 3 days with out doing anything.
The main problem I had with this movie was the emo parker scenes.. Especially the dancing scenes. They were very silly, almost to a point where it was unbareable.
So peter Parker punches MJ and decides that maybe the suit isn't a good thing, he has it on under his clothes, but he decides he needs to get rid of it. SO instead of simply going home and taking it off (as he had done several times earlier in the film) he decides to put MORE of the costume on (his mask too) and goto a church so he can rip it off of him.. (again, it seemed like a lot of this movie was just written at the last minute to get certain scenes to work)

Venom:
So after parker gets rid of the suit, it gets on topher grace, and makes venom. The first thing Venom does instead of trying to take spider-man on himself is he looks for sandman. Venom speaks with his mask on, but his voice had BARELY any effects on it, so it reminded me A LOT of something from the Shrek movies (the way the mouth looke dwith teh voice). Venom never spoke of himself as "WE" and his name was never mentioned AT ALL... no "We are venom"; "I am venom"; "We call ourselves venom!" nothing... not even spider-man refered to him as venom. Venom looked ok, but some scenes they tried to over exagerate his features to a point to where it looked very cartoonish (reminded me of when the dog puts the mask on in "The Mask").. Also the sounds venom made were more annoying than anything... sounded like a high pitch cheetah.
Then spider-man figures out that Venom don't like loud noises, but they use metal pipes hitting the ground as teh loud noise that hurts the symbiot.. this is the weakest sound ever used - to my knowledge- to kill the symboit.. int eh comic, they used a sonic gun & the bell that made parkers ears bleed it was so loud. In the cartoon, they used the bell and a rocket engine.... You'd think that if the symbiot int eh film were weak enough to be hurt by pipes hitting the ground, that the annoying screams that he keeps making would equally hurt the symboit, I suppose not.

Final Thoughts:
There is really not any closure to this movie (mostly due to teh fact it didn't really follow any kind of progressive story line, it was just a bunch of stuff that happened), especially with the Sandman charactor.. We never find out what happens with him, he doesn't goto jail for robbing banks, and killing Uncle Ben (even though it was an accident).. Peter Parker just tells him he forgives him, and then sandman disolves into sand and flies away..)

I don't think it was the worst movie to be made, but I can't say that I am not disappointed. I know that Sony has already announced that they are going to do Spider-Man 4, even if Raimi and the cast doesn't come back.. after seeing Spider-man 3, I am kind hoping that they dont come back. I think it's time to take teh franchise in a different direction, hopefully a better one.

Seriously? Up till the end of your post I figured you were talking about Spiderman 2, and I was hoping like hell they might do a better job of it in the third. Or just skip that crap altogether.

Hahaha. In that interview, Toby can't even play himself, let alone my favorite comic book hero of all time.

And Topher, although a hilarious actor with amazing timing, shouldn't be one of the coolest villains of all time.

And the fact that he didn't refer to himself in the 3rd person and as multiple people bothers the living hell out of me. It furthers my opinion that the creators have NO care for the original story, and are franchising the **** out of Spiderman. Pipes? Oh, and symbiot suit being used as an emo plot device is sickening.
