Babylon 5: Crusade

I still hate TNT for cancelling it. The cast was great, the story interesting . . . it was a good show. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

The Thunderbirds. Its an old British show from the 60s that has become a classic. Sadly they only had two seasons (32 episodes) and two movies because they couldn't get any stations to show it in America until about 40 years later when Tech TV (Now G4Tech TV) decided to show it.

Now they have made a live action movie. Unfortunately I doubt even half the people who worked on the new movie had even heard of the Thunderbirds show until they signed on and by then it was probubly too late.

By the way I'm still waiting to see my Virgil Tracy skin here on massassi.net(From the origenal Thunderbirds show). It looks like there hasn't been any updates for two weeks. Nothing wrong I hope.

The X-files.

It had a rather anti-climatic ending. I was expecting some huge showdown or huge revelation or something. I don't know if having a series finale is really considered cancelling (like when a show is abruptly pulled).

And damn the network stations to hell for more or less cutting x-files reruns out of their schedules. It's hardly ever on network stations anymore, and has been replaced with reality TV shows that only a drooling moron could appreciate.

The X-Files was actually an *excellent* show, up till around the fourth season. After that, it started going downhill.

Well, it looks like they are going to make a new Thunderbirds series. Hopefully it would be more like the origenal series and not like the new movie. Sadly again there will be no puppets. Instead they are going to do it in CG. It sounds like they did look at using puppets, but decide against it. They are really going to have to work hard to get fans of the origenal show to like the new series (Especially after seeing what happened to the new movie).

I thought 'cancelled' was generally taken to that the network dumped the show. Any show that reaches 7 seasons (my opinion) can't really be said to have been cancelled. No self-respecting sci-fi or fantasy should go beyond 7 seasons. Cartoons and sitcoms are allowed to continue for as long as the writers don't run out of ideas.

So, shows I like that got cancelled:
- Futurama
- Family Guy
- Angel

I dunno, Buffy just seemed really lost after it left the highschool setting. It was a great way to drum up interesting non main plotline episodes...when they spent the last few seasons essentially in buffy's house and sometimes the magic shop there just wasn't that opportunity.

It was very, insular, so you ended up with the main plotline stretched even further out during the season. A great example was a huge long stretch in the middle of season 7 where things completely bogged down after a promising start. I think they gave up on the university setting much too soon in season 4.

That and I really hated how Whedon did next to nothing with the male characters. Giles had several storylines about his lovelife and past in the first few seasons, then nothing. Xander never grew either and the resolution to his relationship with Anya was just dumb......and don't get me started on how badly Spike was neutered. He went from being the baddest bad ass vampire to this somber little kitten.

Don't get me wrong, even when I felt Buffy was bad it was still way better than most everything else on TV, but season 2 and 3 were just so damn good it's just hard to overlook the dropoff from there.

Jaiph: Am I right in assuming you watched it on TV? If I had done that, I would probably agree with you since Buffy got such shoddy scheduling down in Australia that everything felt very disjointed.

Watching it on DVD though is so much better its not funny. There’s a lot more continuity to it and you can see the focus change from “intense” episodes where masses of stuff happen quickly, to a chronic build-up of pressure on the characters, which to me makes things like Spikes transformation seem less out of place.

During S4-S7 Buffy adopted the Angel type of storylines (season long plot arcs) instead of S2 & S3 monster-of-the-week type episodes which made it difficult to get involved with the show given its random screening times down here. I actually gave up on seeing the show halfway through S4 since the network kept changing tha damn screening time and I missed a whole heap of episodes.

But I’ll be the first to admit that my opinions on this aren’t exactly the most objective given my fanboy status with this show.

A bit of a twist.

Shows that I wish that would be cancelled:
Every single bloody reality show that exists on all known forms of EM bands, all networks, all secret government faster-than-light communication devices.

Undergrads and Beavis and Butthead, the only good things to ever come from MTV.

I dont really watch tv anymore. I havent much since I got my own computer, which was like 4 years ago. And after we got cable internet... well Conan and NFL football have been the only things that consumed my time outside of video games, school, and work.

But some old shows I liked that met an untimely end are Seaquest, Working, The Wonder Years (not cancelled though, had a finale), and Men Behaving Badly (Rob Schneider >*)

My theory about season 4+ of buffy is that josh whedon started focusing more on the first few seasons of angel (which IMO were by far the best of the whole buffy-angel thingamajig) and buffy started sucking because he was too focused on his new show. Then he tried to redeem himself with the last two seasons or so, which were considerably better than 4 and 5, but as a consequence, angel started sucking. Then buffy ended and angel started getting better again, but it had gone so far off-track that it could not redeem itself, and the show was ended on a mediocre note.
