Requisition for Massassi Vibrations
2007-05-14, 11:08 PM #1
I, too, am in need of the almighty Massassi Vibes.

I have my in-person interview for a C# programming job in San Diego tomorrow morning. It is a position I'm really hoping to get.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Normally, I would give vibes. But, for this time and because JediGandalf is involved, I think anti-vibes is best.

Your request for vibrations have been sent to Massassi and will be sorted and processed within 4-6 weeks, provided you sent in form 3953, along with a $20 processing fee.

Failure to comply to Massassi vibe statute #453 will result in additional 6-8 weeks processing time, forms #413, #8901 and #719 to be filled out in triplicate, and additional $50 fine. These must be taken directly to the Massassi processing center in Topeka, Kansas. Travel fees will not be compensated.

Thank you for using Massassi© Vibes®. Have a nice day.

Db (D flat) is the enharmonic equivalent of C# (C sharp). It's a music joke.

Java?? Nooooooooooooooooooo![/vader]

Thank you all! :) I believe I did well in the interview. I have another one tomorrow. A follow up with a different company.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Oh, come on. C# really is not much different than Java. Operator overloading and...... ?

Properties, operator overloading, pass by reference of function parameters, pointers...

JDKNITE188 - he was making a music joke - in music C# and Db are enharmonically the same note.

Java has pointers, it just disallows certain operations on them (i.e. pointer arithmetic). Operator overloading isn't important enough to distinguish the two languages greatly. An overloaded operator is a method call. Operator overloading grants a little expressivity at the expense of readability, but is not an inherent difference in the structure of the two languages. Java doesn't have language support for properties, but every good Java IDE does. The suitability of properties to be done by an external tool and not the language itself is a testament to the unwillingness of Java's designers to add superfluous features (even though it suffers from these questionable additions elsewhere) and not a great language divide.

As for pass-by-reference, I agree it is handy to include. The typical way around this in Java is to write a wrapper to perform the expected behavior which is quite annoying, I agree, but again I don't see it as a language-defining feature. It's one of those design decisions that makes life easier by allowing the programmer to avoid writing bothersome boilerplate code. But really after you program in Java for a while you start to see that there really aren't that many instances when pass by reference is the intuitive fit to the problem. Just the virtue of passing references (pointers) by value in Java negates the need for passing by reference 90% of the time.

And a better class library.

And no bloated VM. C# applications are faster to start and faster to run.

No arguments about the library or overhead time needed by the VMs, but I seriously question your claim that C#'s JIT compiler is better than Java's hotspot.

They are probably pretty close when running the JVM in server mode.

Also, Swing sucks. SWT is so much better. JAXX is cool but it uses Swing.

WPF > all. :colbert:
