Just thought I would start a lit thread. Post the name of your favorite novel!

Mine is Number the Stars.
I read it in elementary school, but it was really good.

The Giver was amazing in middle school. The other best novel I've read is Stranger in a Strange Land.
"Flowers and a landscape were the only attractions here. And so, as there was no good reason for coming, nobody came."

The first three that come to mind are: American Gods, Lolita, and Jurassic Park.
"Ford, you're turning into a penguin. Stop it."

Fahrenheit 451, even though I'm not sure it qualifies as a novel.

Does anyone know what the name of the novel was with the Egyptian goblet and whatnot? That was a good book too.

I liked it.

I Will Fear No Evil - R.A.H. Great ****ing book. Mortality, morality, spirituality, sexuality, and as an added bonus Brain Transplants!

the first four are themes, the last part is literary device.

Like Free, Fahrenheit 451 (same opinion on Gatsby. I LOATHED that book. Had to read it once in middle school and twice in high school).

A Prayer for Owen Meany and Catch-22 are great as well IMNSHO.

You're silly if you think Basil is the only gay character in that. It's pretty obvious that Dorian is bangin' the boys.

Sure its a simple, straightfoward, comic book like novel but its built around a great theme and I really got into it for some reason.

You're taking about the Great Gatsby?!?

You couldn't be. Comic book like? How? There was symbolism up the wazoo, from the pink suit to the eye on the billboard. I wouldn't call it simple either.

Great theme? Eh?

Don't get me wrong, there are possible positive aspects to the book, but I've never heard it described like that by anybody.

Right now, Speaker for the Dead. It's in the process of changing my life, I think.

And Aglar, if you count being incredibly disturbed as being hit hard, 1984 was amazing. Good book because it makes you feel awful. :P

Ender's Shadow was EXCELLENT, but I think Eisenhorn's definitely a contender at this point, as is Survivor.

Favourite books are probably Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Can't decide which I like more.

Of recent series I really like A Song of Ice and Fire. Can't wait for the next book.

I have many.

I think right now it would be the Life of Pi. And maybe after that Crime and Punishment.

I haven't been reading lately as much as I would like.

Lord of the Rings.

I've read it a few times in Finnish and a couple of times in English. Considering that, I must really like it.

A couple of weeks ago I went up to Gilleleje, where the second part of that book is set, with my Danish class. They showed us the church where the Jews hid until they could get on a boat to Sweden. Pretty cool.

My favorite novel is Les Miserables.

I don't read real books.

So I'll be inclined to say "anything by Bryson, Pratchett or Rankin".
