Sweet! Next time I get into an argument around here, I'll just burn the other guy's house down! INSTANT WIN!

I can't remember the link, but there was a whole archive of photoshops done to this one Asian kid. Long story short: if you put ANYTHING online, prepare for it to get screwed with. That I don't sympathize with AT ALL.

Come to think of it, your picture is in the camho thread... then again, I remember that whole "mom" fiasco, so maybe you do have that unstable of a temper.

In all seriousness, if Rob did photoshop you performing fellatio, would you really care?

If so, why the hell would you?

To relate this back to the point: some people are championing the guy who took an internet battle too far. This is silly, as nothing done online should really bother you, outside of identity theft or activities that can endanger your REAL LIFE.

If you guys really felt this way, then I fear what you would feel SF_Gold would be justified in doing.

Also, I'm a moron for beating a dead horse :downswords:

Maybe we're looking at it as a story on the internet and giving half-assed responses?

Yes, I would care. It would enrage me for reasons unexplainable.

And maybe some of us feel drawing a distinction between REAL LIFE™ and your activities on the internet is meaningless. When I'm using the internet I make friends and interact in a way that is no less meaningful than doing the same thing in REAL LIFE™. I react largely the same to someone photoshopping me with a p33nz0r in my mouth and plastering all over a public form as I would to someone giving out the same pictures to, say, classmates in a classroom.

Guess I gave you too much credit then.

I guess this is a fundamental difference of opinions then, to an extent.

But here's the "kicker" to me: You can log off of a forum. You can change your user name. All SF_Gold needs to do is a nick change and an attitude readjustment and he'd be yet another member here.

In real life your honor, your standing, your reputation really matters. I'm Brian, and it would take a few surgeries and a lot of other paper work, moves, and effort to make me not Brian. I can't wash away the mistakes I made in real life with any ease.

Here I'm Kuat, and with a nick change I could be Sr. Awesomepants. I can wash away all the negatives and positives associated with this handle with a few keystrokes, and maybe a different ISP if I really cared. All I lose is my post count.

So you equating "real life" and these forums is again, silly.

Not everyone is.

Plus I really like arguing.

I never "equated" them as you say. I said drawing a distinction between how I should feel about ******* on the internet and in real life is meaningless to me.

You said "drawing a distinction is meaningless". That infers equality. You also compared online relationships to offline ones. But let's not play semantics, I'll play your game you rouge.

I still don't get why you would care, much less be "enraged".

I can see caring in real life because those you know and respect see you with, well, a mouth full of man meat.

Here who sees you enjoying some sausage? And then we know it was Rob who did it anyway.

I know you said it's unexplainable, but that doesn't quite fly. You have to care for a reason.

I don't regard the internet as some mere toy. I've never understood why it's supposedly forbidden to "take the internet seriously." It's as if the entire medium only exists to facilitate pranks by prepubescent boys. Some of us use the internet to, you know, communicate. Some of us foster relationships, some of us regard what takes place on the internet as just as "real" as what takes place in REAL LIFE™.

I have a feeling if this were happening face to face we wouldn't have this discussion for very long, heh.

You are kinda going and a circle, and you ARE equating real life with the internet. You do NOT take what's said on the internet seriously because there is for the most part no backing to the statements as far as threats and jabs, and there SHOULDN'T be.

Here I can express any stupid opinion I want, blurt out any half thought or retarded idea and not face any long term consequences. Most of the stuff I say here I don't really care about. It's quite liberating, and it's the beauty of the internet. Taking things seriously is not a virtue here. It's a place most of us go (I hope) to just screw around, to say things we aren't that sure of, refine our arguing skills, or just to blow off steam. There's enough worrying about what is being said and "serious business" in real life. Why extend the negatives feelings of real life here?

Anyway, I've stated my points why the two are very different, and there are leagues more. Sorry about the long arse posts, but I guess being concise not my strength.

I would say I am definately more of a jerk to people on the internet than strangers in real life. The thing is though, I'm a huge jerk to my friends, and they get that. They know I don't seriously mean it when I tell them I want to kill them or see them trapped under a burning vehicle. I suppose that comes with an Australian sense of humour but I'm rarely serious in real life and that's how I act on the internet. So from my perspective, I'm actually friendlier to people on the internet than strangers in real life. How's that for spin! :v:

I kind of agree with Kuat but this is what I've noticed.
On the internet, person A is a jerk but nice in person. But if random jerk B approached person A in the street and called them a douche and then walked away, person A would probably be bemused and not give much care to it. But on the internet, they get called a douche and they go ****ing crazy over it.
It goes both ways. Some people are just indifferent to the internet, and others hyper-sensitive to it.

Haha, freelancer would be the one to think this guy has a right. His mom thread proved that he has little to no sense of humor at all. You're one of those people that plays into people making fun of you WAAAAY too much. People would make less fun of you if you didn't get such a rise out of the stupidest things.
