Old SP Glory - To inspire those in the contest

The recently announced single player tournament has created a new surge in single player levels being started, which for me is great - as I was always a TACC person. I'm going to, over the next few weeks in this thread, highlight some old levels that you may/or may not of heard of which demonstrate great single player gaming in jedi knight and mysteries of the sith.

Mechanics Of The Force I Jedi Knight
http://www.massassi.net/levels/files/22.shtml
It may not have great visuals and design, but this level is a great example of story progression. You begin as a protocol droid not knowing who you are, and as you advance in the level you begin to learn just that. It's always good if you give the player a reason to advance. It involves alot of enhancements for its day and I doubt you'd find a better example of excellent enemy placement.

Liberating Cloud City Mysteries Of The Sith
http://www.massassi.net/levels/files/2503.shtml
A few minor errors here and there, but nothing to rant about. The story is simple but it gets the job done, and the objectives are clear. This level also has excellent item and enemy placement, but really should be downloaded (and is mentioned here) because of the lighting and architecture - which I think you might agree when playing, beats level 9 of JK.

This is where other people contribute...
Magrucko Daines and the Crypt of Crola (2007)
Magrucko Daines and the Dark Youth (2010)
Magrucko Daines and the Vertical City (2016)

Anthony Piggot's SP MotS level series, Birth of a Mercenary and Life of a Mercenary. The best single player levels for the JK engine (fan-made or otherwise) I've ever played.

It's cooler if you link to the level info page on both TACC and Here, that way we can look at screenshots, file sizes, etc., before we download.

My favorites:

Imperial Siege on Derra IV by Ryan Bickhart

Laugh at me all you like, but if you liked my levels Life of Grismath levels at all, please take my sincere recommendation of the following:

Download Edward's Ugnaut epic.

His sense of humor may be bizarre, his aesthetics may be hopelessly outdated, in fact (after just playing it again) it's really wonky, but this contribution by Edward is truly unparalleled in terms of some innovative gameplay nuggets for Jedi Knight.

If you're looking for both atypical gameplay and some enjoyable graphics, I can point you nowhere else than my sig. ^_^

Other Grismath top picks:

One Rebel's Sacrifice (Ch. 1-9)

C@rni's extensive saga.

Death From Above Demo

This "demo" got me into MotS SP editing and made me hope that someday I, too, could work on a TC.

A Pirate's Tale: Ch. 5-6

To get the whole story, you'd have to play through chapters 1-4 of fellow editor Darth Vedder's series. The first few are not so good. This last installment; however, is gold.

I always had a soft spot for any of McHale's Yug'rin series. And pretty much all that has been mentioned are my all-time favorites. I have them all on DVD somewhere...

Siege on Derra IV and Siege on Vol Kanst by Jason Burton are the two pinnacles of SP levels IMO.

Derra is definitely a classic. It's what JK level 6 should have been.

We have a review of Vol Kanst but the download link doesn't work anymore. http://www.massassi.net/reviews/jksp/54.shtml

TACC has it:

I didn't even remember the level till you mentioned it, but yes, it was great.
2007-07-30, 11:31 PM #10
Most of the levels I would have mentioned are here, but what the hell, no one mentioned Leeza's Destiny yet? Oh well. No harm done. This is the probably the best old-schoolishy SP release there is, it's not pretty but damn it's fun.

Not to mention Rebel Agent. Sure, it's another replica of DF's first level but god that's the best reimagination of it ever done (yes, far more detailed than JA's Dark Forces Mod).

And I fully agree with Koobie. <3 Piggott. Yet you can't forget TOAM 2 BTM from the list ;)

Agreed. BoaM SE had voice acting and a story but Derra IV had the absolute best gameplay. It is easily on par with the LEC levels...and JK had some amazing level design.

Battle On The Outer Rim Part II Mysteries Of The Sith
http://www.commandchamber.net/levels/description.php?id=114
In it's day (8 years ago) this was hailed as one of the best MOTS levels ever. Todays standards mean it doesn't stand up, but it's a good example. Displays good simple puzzles and lots of custom 3do-age to enhance atmosphere. While now it doesn't stand up very well, it is still very enjoyable for some reason, and that's the key in my opinion :)

Warzone Chapter 2 Jedi Knight
http://www.commandchamber.net/levels/description.php?id=46
Until the BoaM era, this was THE level. It takes some time to complete, and involves 'that chase' which back in the day was one of a kind. This level demonstrates great puzzles/scenes by the use of cog overall, and though the architecture is sometimes lacking it is a bundle of fun.

Nebula made a couple of fun levels...City of Arca Terra was cool, and there was this fun mission where you play a Stormtrooper chasing a criminal around Mos Eisely.

Ah, city, not siege. Here they are:

Arca Terra
Streets of Mos Eisley
COUCHMAN IS BACK BABY

I didn't like the Mos Eisley level, but damn I thought I was the only one who remembered Arca Tera o_O

Probably the best Boba Fett level ever made.

OK, let me explain. The statistics for levels and whatnot breaks when you link the download page directly. Please don't do this, and let the pages get hit as well as avoid hitting the download requests by clicks. Link the project page, not the direct download. Please, I don't want to have to ask an admin to do this.

RotE 1 by SavageX is amazing. It's probably my third-favorite SP level of all time. RotE 2 was excellent as well, and RotE 3 was fair/good.

One Rebel's Sacrifice was my favorite series of all the levels I played. There was such potential with C@rni, as he had plans for future levels. Then the forum incident happened, and we never heard from him again and he disappeared. :(

Mecahnics of the Force was also great as well!

Nobody has mentioned the Dead Reckoning series!

DR1 - http://www.commandchamber.net/levels/description.php?id=18
DR2 - http://www.commandchamber.net/levels/description.php?id=7
DR3 - http://www.commandchamber.net/levels/description.php?id=200

All really solid levels I think you'll agree, with the same amount of standard good quality throughout all. There was something lacking in all of them in my opinion however, but still - good levels, just shy of being great. The title sequence to DR3 is pretty neat, I must add.

Cool, glad some people still like my levels after all this time :)

I have to admit that during my JK editing days, I was too busy working on my own levels that I rarely took the time to play other people's levels. However, the ones I really enjoyed when I did play other people's levels were some of Anthony Piggot's early series (I haven't played any of his mercenaries series though), the warzone series, and a couple of other levels that I sadly can't remember the names of. I'll have to look around massassi and tacc to remember when they were.
