Not sure how to describe a movie that seemed good but had the worst filmography of any film ever put on the big screen. I would recommend boycotting any filmaker with this film.

I think you mean cinematography.

I love Greengrass' style. From watching Bloody Sunday, Bourne Supremacy, United 93, and Bourne Ultimatum, I love the cinema vérité feel all his films have.

OK, fine, the cinematography was horriffic. Whatever you want to call it. Xbox games have better presentations than this film. One more reason to rent movies.

My impressions:

It was very meh. I will be quoting my brother a lot in my analysis, but every Bourne movie to us seems to be the that you see, you enjoy (for the most part), and then you just kind of forget you even saw it. That is definitely how I viewed the third film. More specifically...

1. Yes, the camera work is terrible. My brother and I are getting really annoyed with the whole shaky camera thing being the cool way to film a movie. It also didn't help I was in the third row cuz bastards won't move down in a row to let a group of 4 in.

2. I understand it's a "chase" movie, as my brother said to me. But I think there reaches a point where extended walking scenes are not intense, despite an intense soundtrack to back it up.

Other than those gripes, the movie was alright. I'd say worth the money (maybe not for after 5PM prices). The second half definitely picked up the pace (I almost fell asleep during the first half, but a really long night probably contributed to it a tad). The end peaked my interest, but overall, gotta give it my "meh" rating, because it was just too average to give it anything higher. I enjoyed the first Bourne movie (from what I remember about it) MUCH more.

I saw this movie today before I started work at the theatre.

It was amazing. The camera work was amazing. Handheld camerawork has never been this good. Matt Damon was as good as he's been since Good Will Hunting. The action was amazing. It's the most discernable handheld action I've ever seen. I really can't stress how much I loved this movie.

EDIT: I forgot to mention how much I love David Strathairn(sic) in everything... and he plays such a good villan in this movie. Also, I absolutely love Albert Finney, and his role in this movie, although small, is incredible as always.

I just have to say, the foot chase through Morocco was probably the best chase I've seen, and though yes, Casino Royale had an amazing foot chase that involved few cables and harnesses, they still used a professional practitioner of Traceur (was he the founder? Where's dud?) to pull that off, while Bourne used Matt Damon jumping from building to building.

Oh my god I cried laughing. Look at his picture thinking that he's a pretty boy toy that feels used and abused, and he's crying on the inside as he smiles for all of the hungry eyes. So hungry. So unforgiving.

Yeah... the one from Casino Royale was more 'high octane over the top' kinda thing... the one from Ultimatum was much more down to earth, but also slightly more tense b/c the girl was being hunted during it... there was really something at stake, saving her life, not just 'we gotta catch this guy'

I enjoyed 'em both but for different reasons
2007-08-07, 4:09 PM #61
Sebastien Foucan (the dude in Casino Royale) is kind of the co-founder of parkour, though David Belle usually gets most of the credit. Foucan I think was the guy who was there for all of it.

Just got back from seeing Ultimatum and I loved it. I didn't mind the shaky camera too much and most of the time I appreciated it. I imagine it's hard to get a chase movie like this right and they did it. Spy Games with Robert Redford is another great movie of this kind. I recommend it.

Just got back from seeing it.
I liked Supremacy the best of the movies so far.

For those who are curious.

In the books, David Webb has an asian family that is created when he is an operative (That is to say, a spy who knows EXACTLY who he is). They get killed by a bomb in front of him, and he feels guilty for their deaths. That's when he decides to join the program and become jason bourne.

You can choose to believe this is relevant if you want

He gets shot in the head and mistakes himself to be Jason bourne, not realizing who he really is. There was none of that neurosurgeon therapy crap. Oh yeah, Carlos the Jackal is the main bad guy in Identity and Ultimatum.
And Supremacy took place in China.
And Marie never died.
And Jason (David) and Marie have a family with 2 kids

So if you ignore these last few facts, the first one unspoilered can be a bit more relevant.

I think the movies were good, they're just in their own...world? canon?

I couldn't stand this movie.

Female Agent: "We had some vaguely alluded-to sexual history that you don't even remember (not to mention that you're having flashbacks to the death of some OTHER girlfriend). But hey, it's good to see you, again! Why don't I commit high treason and have to live as a renegade for the rest of my days on the drop of a hat?"

Southern Doctor Guy: "I *am* a Big Fish"

Bourne: "I've killed, wounded, and incapacitated tons of people, including stabbing one guy with office objects. But strangling that 'asset' to death sure disturbed me." *flashbackz*

Asset #1 (London/New York): "I'm so good that the CIA hired me on both sides of the Atlantic! I guess they're running out of agents."

Landi: *sass* *insubordination* *more sass*

And the hand-camera work made me nauseous and distracted me from what was going on. It worked very well in action scenes, but for the slow, quiet dialogues, it was distracting to me.

Person 1: "Does he have it?"
Person 2: *looking concerned* "Yes"
Person 1: "Where did he get it?"
Person 2: "There"
Person 1: "Ok."

Also, the stalker cam achieved its "paranoid feel" of always being on the run, but it seemed like the film was shot in only three ways: stalker cam for conversations/slower parts, supershaky action scenes, and over-effected flashbacks. Very formulaic.

Can someone who liked this (Antony, etc.) tell me what they thought was so brilliant about this film in more detail?

Boring, boring film.

During the chase scene with the asset trying to kill Nikki...my friend and I were both checking our watches. Faaar too long.

*the asset is still following her*

CAN YOU FEEL THE TENSION YET? CAN YOU? CUZ WE CAN'T.

Didn't like the fact that there was no real story development until he spoke to Landry at her office. Up until that point, it had been "Okay, who just hit who?" due to the camera work and lots of "I have the authority to do this!" "Nuh-uh!" "Yeah huh!" "Nuh-uh!".

First was the best of the series, and the second was slightly worse. This one was...wow. Bad.

I think it was good, but overall the worst of the three. Just not that much action overall. One cool fight scene and one cool headshot.

I pretty much agree with everything you said, and yet, in spite of that, I still enjoyed the movie, and I think it's worth seeing in theatres at least once, and buy for the sake of owning the trilogy and periodically having a Bourne Marathon.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Since when do we give props to anything at imdb other than information?

I'm not saying that despite the bad things people have said about it, and the fact that I'd probably hate it since I didn't like the last one that it ISN'T good. I'm just saying that people here constantly refer to imdb as a breeding ground for idiots. Why should anyone trust that rating?
