you can learn to drive at 15 in the US? I guess I'm just an ignoramus for not knowing that before. But knowing ths stuff I got up to at 15, I'm kinda glad it's illegal to drive at that age in the UK.

Depends on the state. Some states you can, because people need to drive farming vehicles (tractors ect.), but in other places like New York or California (I think) the age is higher. It seems like 16 is the average age though.

oh right, cheers for clarifying that. While we're on the subject, are the age limits on alcohol the same from state to state? I can't believe that many of you can't legally buy alcohol till 21! At the age of 15 i was drinking from time to time already!

Technically each state has the right to change the legal drinking age. However, this has caused problems with teens going from one to state to another with a lower age limit and then driving on highways while drunk. The federal government "suggested" the states change the legal limit to 21, and decreasing the legal age limit below 21 would lose a state federal highway funds (which every state desperately needs).

Also, do you have to renew it or something? I cant remember, you guys have crazy mixed up age laws over there, but it expires before you're 18...?

</font>

Haha... well i dont really ever write in cursive. I write out my name. yeah... and i dint press down very hard. IT expires after a year, so that gives me enough time to get my license, unless i am lazy... theni just have to go in and get a new one.

Oh and GBK... wow... yeah you have skillz. You (and ruth) left my signature in there :P

California law:
Driving school must be taken before you obtain permit unless your 17.5 years. After you get driver's learning permit, you must maintain that for a minimum of 6 months before you're able to get driver's license. Of course that doesn't mean squat when you're 18. Walk into the DMV, get permit, come back the next day and ask for licensing test.

No, I was just wondering if you had some Jewish ancestry. Now that I constantly announce how I'm 1/4 Jewish, I wonder about...things. Not even a fourth of me practices the Jewish religion, by the way.

I'm 17, live in North Carolina and haven't even taken Driver's Ed yet. I don't feel any need to. Don't get me wrong, I will at some point soon, but I don't feel rushed to do so. The people who drive around where I live are quite literally insane. I much prefer to bike where I need to go or walk. Besides... anyone can drive... It's just a matter of legality and skill...

It's sixteen for a lisence in California. You can get your permit, where you drive with an adult, when you are fifteen.

Yeah, in Georgia the permits look just like a license, except it's a class C license instead of a class D.

And no, I mean from looking at what Cazor posted, the actual PERMIT looks ugly to me [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]
We have rather nice licenses in Georgia imo [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]
