Metroid on Wii

So apparently Metroid Prime: Corruption was released recently. Have you bought or played it? I'm curious what "real" people think of the game.

I'm getting it today... I still haven't beaten the first prime. And I've never even played the second, but oh well.
2007-08-31, 11:03 AM #3
I'm buying it on Sunday, though I won't be able to play it until Monday as I'm currently home from school for the weekend, and my Wii is still at school.

Well I've only played for about an hour, and I already love it. The controls are weird at first and the graphics are only slightly better than the other two Primes, but it all comes together to be super awesome.

And finally you're not alone the whole freakin game! It's a lot more exciting and fast-paced then the first two.

i'm spent the last 45 minutes playing is and its awesome

there's alot of wiimote interaction, you push buttons, grab things. you actually get to be inside the ship doing stuff

the only two things that bug me is the right handed remote does the left handed interactions, and that the gun does not use the triggerstyle button to fire but instead uses it to jump and the a button fires

I'm thinking of picking up a Wii within the next couple weeks for Corruption.

Yeah, the backwardhandedness is kind of weird, but at least they didn't reverse Samus like they did in Zelda.

And you can switch fire/jump in the options. There's actually a specific option just for that.

I'm really liking this game so far. I'll be honest, I don't really care for the other Primes. They're good games, I just can't and couldn't really get into them. But Prime 3 is a lot more fun for me.

Good luck!

I'm thinking of picking up a 360 just for Bioshock. And Gears of War.

Cool, good to hear good things. I really liked the first prime, and we got to the last boss but never finished it for some reason. I hated the second one, it didn't seem nearly as new or fun, it just seemed full of annoying, random crap like disappearing and reappearing elsewhere, and a bunch of digital smoke crap that made no sense. Bah. But this one looks cool.
2007-08-31, 9:58 PM #12
The multiple planet/ship setup is very similar to how it works in Prime Hunters, only it's implemented well here while in Hunters it was tacked on and lame. The planets are all really cool.

The controls are magnificent. By far the best use of the Wii ever.

I'd say you're more likely to enjoy Metroid Prime 3 if you also enjoyed Metroid Fusion, just because Prime 3 is mission-based and quite linear in parts. It isn't until the second half of the game that you have more than one mission objective going at the same time.

I'm not going to say that Prime 3 is better than Prime 1, because it's a different beast but in a good way. Prime 1 was basically Super Metroid in 3D. Prime 3 isn't.

I bought the game today, it's only 44 bucks at costco. Anyway, I played through the first part, up to the point where I land on the planet. I found the controls sort of weird and more difficult than the original prime. The lockon seems really odd, like you have to lock on to something and aim at the same time. Locking on doesn't "aim" it merely locks your viewpoint, but you still have to use the wii remote to aim. It's really hard to see the crosshair because it's light green, so it's hard to aim, especially when locked on (because there's so much other stuff that pops onto the screen). Am I missing something?

Also, every game which makes me push towards the screen and away from the screen doesn't seem to work right. It's really hit and miss. Sometimes it works fine, but other times I almost have to get up out of my chair and walk towards the damn screen to get the movement to register.

The graphics are really cool. I'm not impressed with the controls so far :(

I just think you hate video games in general now, Brian. First smash bros, now this? :(

Make sure you're pointing the remote at the TV (or more accurately, the "sensor" bar).
2007-09-02, 10:08 PM #16
forward/back is all with the accelerometer.

you get used to the controls. you aren't really supposed to "see" the crosshair - it becomes instinct very very quickly.
2007-09-02, 10:10 PM #17
No, the forward back is based on the sensor bar, at least for the interactive items. Try doing it with the remote pointed away.

As Vinny said, the wiimote uses the eye to detect how close it is to the screen. (You can see this in action on the Wii's configuration screen with the 2 dots. As you get closer they get bigger)
2007-09-02, 11:27 PM #19
Yeah, and in some screens in the UI (I forget which) the cursor will actually change size depending on the distance to the sensor bar.
2007-09-03, 12:43 AM #20
I've still got to wait almost 2 months. :(

I've never played any other Metroid games, should I, for the story?
Sorry for the lousy German

I was in the middle of playing through Prime 1 for the first time, but Prime 3 is way better. Maybe I'll go back and finish afterwards, but it's certainly not necessary for Prime 3.

there is a lock-on option in the settings, it'll turn your screen to the enemy with the aiming recticle locked on to the baddie

brian try this for using the wiimote to move back and forth toward the screen.
the 'sensor' bar is not really a sensor. it's an IR emitter. unplug the sensor bar and place 2 candles where the sensor bar would be (don't burn the tv stand down). try placing the candles further apart from each other than the sensor bars emitters (at each end). presumably it's stereoscopic and may work better or be more sensitive if there's a greater distance between the IR sources. make sure you and the tv are centered properly in relation to the candles (or sensor bar if you're going to use it).
2007-09-03, 7:34 AM #24
But one would go through the trouble of using candles?

Or an insanely easier method: Raise/lower your sensitivity in the options.

to make the experience better, why not?
we tried it on my sister's wii just to test it. worked fine but that was just on wii sports. my boys have a couple of games that require movement back and forth toward the tv so i'm going to try it later today.

or try that first.

The eye isn't used for anything in Wii Sports except the menus...

I have the sensor bar on the top of my tv. I wonder if there is a problem if it's facing downwards a little bit? The top of the tv has a slight slope. I can't put it at the bottom because my son will tear it to pieces.

I went out and bought the first one about 2 weeks before the 3rd released. I've almost finished it, I have always been a metroid fanboy (literally, beat Metroid for NES while i was in diapers. ) Had Metroid 2, Still play Super Metroid on occasion, but lost interest when it went 3d. Even played the Advance metroid games.

However due to my hate for the GC but love for the Wii, I now have to go back and replay these games. Which I am surprised to say, really REALLY hold to the metroid gaming feel. Metroid prime is almost a mirror version of Super Metroid. As for 2 and 3, i will only find out in time. I love them.

I beat MP3 twice already. Normal and Veteran. I got all items and scans, just missing some bonus tokens I guess. There are a bunch of hidden ones.

Oh, and have some MP3mp3s: http://junk.mzzt.net/mp3mp3s/

Spent about 3-4 hours playing it so far; easily the best game for the Wii yet, though not necessarily the best game on the Wii if you catch my meaning. Zelda is still up there, but Metroid so far has been a great deal of fun. Th controls practically justify the Wii's existence all by themselves.

I enjoyed the Ridley fight (not long into the game, in case there's more than one). Definitely something new & interesting. Still not convinced on the controls.

What control set-up are you using? Standard or advanced?

I haven't changed it, whatever the default is. What's the difference?

Standard is slow and annoying, which is the default I believe. If you want to go precise and quick, choose advanced.

I just fought Meta Ridley last night on MP1... and won't likely play again soon. When a computer AI resorts to the one cheap *** move that does 220ish damage and does it over and over because his/her/its life bar is literally that low.... Then the player lays a bomb, thus destroying the enemy, but getting hit at the exact same time, and loses. F*** RIDLEY!
