Hell yes! Just don't expect all the bells and wistles. Even my comp is capible of running it (P3 1.0GHZ, 384mb SDRAM, 64MB Video Card), just not very well. Doom3 was optomized for a computer of equal strenght to the Xbox (roughly a little weaker than my system). Just don't expect to go all-out (though realistically, your ram might ballence things out).

From the benchmarks and articles I've seen, iD seems to have done a good job with making it playable on fairly low end systems.

A lot of people with the "must have everything brand new for it to run" attitude are either crazy or recalling the unoptimized alpha leak which was, well, unoptimized and alpha...

ok, so there is some info regarding the minimum specs. Don't know how accurate it is though.

Here

Quote:

An Nvidia GeForce 3 graphics card or ATI Technologies 8500: Column author Dwight Silverman says that given the game's demanding visuals, serious gamers should splurge for a GPU from Nvidia's GeForce FX or 6800 line or ATI's Radeon 9800 or X800 series. He says more frugal PC owners can make do with a GeForce 5900XT or a Radeon 9600XT.

A 1.5-gigahertz Intel Pentium 4 chip or AMD Athlon 1500: Though these will run the game, Silverman suggests a 2GHz Pentium or equivalent, with the "ideal" processor being 3 GHz or over.

384MB of memory: Again, Silverman stresses that this is a minimum requirement, and he recommends 512MB at least, with 1GB preferred.

Two GB of hard drive space:

I also vaguely remember reading something a little while ago that it will only support Win2k/XP

SHOULD at maybe low-medium settings

my computer will most likely not run it or chug along with a slideshow at dog *** ugly settings

and the thing about the geforce 3 being a minimum... that makes me want to say "if you actually want to PLAY the game" but i remember carmack saying something about it being able to run even on my card (GF4MX) just without any bump mapping or cool visual effects or playable framerates

someone buy me a new computer

So I can proably run it pretty smooth on medium/high detail? Just not highest. I mean 1.7Ghz is what I have and 2.0Ghz is reccomended....right? I just want to make sure this is worth buying.

I can run FarCry on highest detail (No AA), online with about 20 people and have no lag...so am I safe to assume I can run Doom 3 pretty high with no problem?

According to my PC Gamer with the D3 review, the minimum specs are:

1.5 GHz
384 MB RAM
64 MB card, lowest being a GF4 MX

That won't get you all the pretty bells and whistles.

Recommended specs:

2.0 GHz
512 MB RAM
Radeon 9800

Medium settings, 1024x768, no AA no AF you'll be fine. With a better video card it'd be highest, but 9600XT's are going to show their budget-ness with this title I suspect. Still a good play with good looks though. Hope my Ti can hold out till I get my upgrade.

Well, I've got a Radeon 9600 in my box, an XP 2400+ and 512 MB PC2700 RAM, so I should be fine. I don't particularly mind running games at lower resolutions or graphics settings than normal - in fact, I prefer 800x to anything else.

What about something along these lines...

PIII (can't remember the exact details)

256 mb 100 mhz RAM (Crappy motherboard won't support any other kinds of RAM. I'll need to spend an arm and a leg to upgrade..)

128 MB Geforce FX 5200 (Only using 64, because of 150W powersupply. Needs 300W to goto 128.)

Really crappy generic sound card (I'm on a different comp, so I don't remember)

Win 98 SE (Best windows OS IMHO)

TheJkWhoSaysNi: 1024x768 highest, probably 1280x1024 medium, maybe 1280x1024 highest, maybe.

Glyde: 800x600 lowest. That RAM kills you.

Torn: I'm going to say the same as JkWhoSaysNi, but I'm not sure. Maybe more, since you have more memory. This game is going to bring 512 to its knees.

You are VERY wrong. Doom 3 can run fairly well on a GeForce4 MX, which is LOWER than a regular Geforce 3.

A 9600xt will do fine

Here's an even tougher question:

Will it be able to run Half-Life II?

or perhaps the most important question of all:

Will any computer on Earth be able to run the almighty Duke Nukem Forever?

I highly doubt you will be able to run it. Also, someone mentioned earlier that it is only compatible with WinXP/2000. I have also read that.

no, you need at least one positronic brain to handle the awesomeness that is Doom 3. Try purchasing an NS-5, stripping it of everything else, and just shoving the positronic brain into your processor slot.

Since we here at planetDOOM dislike rumours in all shapes and sizes, we went straight to the horses mouth so to speak and asked Activision themselves.
