My tree is gone....
2004-07-27, 5:43 PM #1
There was a tree outside the front of my place that i loved a lot. I think it was a peach tree or an apricot, or something like that. It never had fruit, but it was great when it bloomed.

However, those f***ups that work for the city came and cut it down today. I was gone all day, and when I came home, it was gone. I don't know why they removed it, but it was my favourite tree and now I'm f***ing pissed b/c i will never see it bloom again. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/mad.gif]

Fortunately, they left the stump to be removed later, so I got my saw and I went over and quickly cut off a cross-section near the base to remember it by. (Yes, I can be sentimental if I want to be. As of right now, I value that tree over the lives of all my elected officials. I'll see whoever was responsible burn for this...)

My cross-section is about 6" across, and it has about 14 growth rings on it. I plan to stain it, varnish it, and mount it on my wall once the still-living wood dries out.

Page makes a thread about his favorite tree, and you go completely off topic and start talking about women. Then you post a picture of burning trees...

You may think it's funny, but it's coming off as trolling. Usually you're ok, but sometimes you act like this, and it makes you look pretty immature. You're above this behavior. Knock it off.

At my old house, there was an enormous evergreen tree in the front yard (which towered over almost all the other trees in the neighbourhood), as well as a linden tree and a Japanese maple. My parents did a lot of work creating a fancy herb garden, and the backyard also had chives and mint growing.

The people who live there now have cut down all the trees, removed the herb garden, chives and mint, leaving the entire yard bare and boring. Fools.

There's this pear tree in my dad's yard that got struck by lightning one year... we came home and found it split in half. literally. like straight down the middle. It was the coolest thing I've ever seen in a tree [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

needless to say, it's pretty dead now.

Poor tree. I used to have an agave cactus that lived outside my house. It was huge. Then one day, it did what they do: it sprouted a 30 foot stalk that bloomed a ton of flowers, then died. All in about 2 weeks. Then a little baby one started growing next to it. So, if you really feel bad about it, plant a new one. Preferably not near any important electrical lines. I have a tree in my front-yard, and one in my backyard. I'll admit, I'm not really attached to them in a really special way, but I don't think I would ever want to see them gone. Sorry man.

I used to have an affinity for it b/c It was the only tree on the block that looked pretty good. Most of what we have are the typical California rat-palm trees and generic decidious trees that didn't flower or do anything special.

and if I planted another tree, even wuith city permission, it just wouldn't be the same. That was MY tree, you know? I'm the only one that cared enough to prune it or water it or anything. The city wouldn't do it, and no one else would, so it was up to me.

The part that gets me is that 12 hours ago, that tree was a living organism, now its nothing. It's still alive (for another day or so), but now, it can only die. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

Page, do you live in an apartment complex or something? How could the city just come and cut it down if it's on private property?

it was between the sidewalk and the curb, which is technically city property.

At least the city removed your tree (not good if its still healthy thougj). I had a big Silver Birch sitting in front of my house, that lived for only 15 years before dying (to this day, nobody has figured out why). We had to chop it down ourselves, and then get a contractor to remove the stump.

I don't like the trees in my back yard. Mowing would just be just a little more enjoyable without them there. I also hate the rose bushes in the front. One day I will salt the ground they are rooted in.

I don't know, making something out of it does make sense though.

I'm not sure what.

Perhaps you could carve a minature tree out of the wood of the tree. That sounds quite nice.

You could take some cells from the root of the tree, and like culture them or something, and plant it again, and you will get a genetically identical tree growing again!

Or you could plant a new tree.

I have lots of trees, so I don't care for one specifically, although there is a lovely red maple in my backyard that is rather nice...
