WTF.

Anyone know where I can find this *******? I'd like to pull his eyes out with a corkscrew.

hey guys, i'm gonna make some art and kill an orphan.

Why wouldn't anyone just feed it then? Let it die and complain on the internet afterwards, yeah right
2007-10-19, 3:58 AM #4
What a dick. Reminds me of the Finnish communist "artist" who killed and masturbated on a cat and called it art.

Oh well, not that surprising. Hitler was also one kind of an artist.

If you need someone to hold him down while you do it, just ask.

If while doing this I happen to break some of his bones....well....ooppss.

I find this thread fascinating. Why is it wrong to starve a dog? Why is someone like Rob bothered by it? Obviously some people would view this as a waste of a dog, since no one seems to have eaten it, and it didn't really serve anyone as a loving pet.
There's something more to it than that, though.
Poor dog. (Also, the artist wins at getting peoples attention)

If you make a post like this you might have aspergers.
2007-10-19, 6:18 AM #8
The reason this is abhorrent is because it's not art. A real artist could have accomplished the same thing with a painting of a starving dog. The only self-titled artists who perform these sorts of stunts are unskilled and only looking for attention.

Like that guy who painted Jesus with 6 different kinds of feces.

Poor poor dog... I'm actually very sad to read this.

Would it be more proper to intentionally starve a dog in the basement, and never call it art? Is the real tragedy in the blunder of art, or the death of the creature?
2007-10-19, 6:52 AM #11
No Axis, it would not be more proper. But the fact that he's parading around the fact that he starved a dog to death is appalling. If a man starves a dog in a basement and keeps it a secret, at least that man has some level of guilt about it. This guy is apparently proud of his so-called "accomplishment."

I'm not exactly a fan of "animal rights" but this is not just cruel acts against a dog, it's poor stewardship of our environment. Why not take the sick and starving dog and nurse it back to health and rejoice in the rejuvenative capabilities of living organisms? That's much more impressive, and much closer to art.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Goody. More wanna-be-intellectual morons who think being an artist is about controversy for the sake of controversy. They lack the ability to be artists simply because they are too self-centered and self-righteous to have and ideas to express.

Being stupid and random is not creative. Its just an excuse to get people to call you the idiot that you are, so you can tell yourself that you are being persecuted for upholding some great but unpopular ideal.

Because the people viewing it were likely to be as pretentious and stuck-up as the "artist" who first thought up this sick stunt.

It boggles the mind to think that they would have been standing there in their own little world thinking some bull**** about how art'y the piece was while the dog slowly died...and it would have been slow and painful for the dog, idiots....thats all I can think.

Oh and don't think I'm some peta nut or anything, but anyone who has ever owned a dog, heck, anyone who has even the slightest regard for animals should be appalled at this stunt.

That's ****ing sick. I watched my dog die late this summer. Lying there, breathing irregularly, chest heaving, eyes glazed over and staring at nothing. He had a tumor, that's nature, that's fine. This stupid **** just did it for attention.

Avenger is so right. Axis is confusing me with his lack of empathy.
2007-10-19, 1:20 PM #21
Axis is just saying stuff because he wants the attention.

Thats why he changed his forum name to Axis, as in Axis powers, as in Hitler.

For the attention.

Same reason he showed a few of us the pictures of the twin towers with scripture on them.

For the attention.

It's really starting to get sad.

But like Joncy said, aspergers.

That guy should be thankful he doesn't live in a mobocracy because animal abusers always seem the first to get lynched.

Seriously, whenever an article surfaces about animal abuse, usually the abuse of a dog, I always see people pledge to intestinally rape or curb stomp the perpetrator. I realize most of it is hyperbole, but the fact that every other comment at the link is about how the artist deserves to die or get starved makes me wonder why I never see a similar response to human abuse, and if most of them genuinely think violent reaction is justice.

That said, the artist is a worthless human being.

Amen! Letting a creature die unnessecarily is cruelty, not art. If he was an artist then he could create a sculpture, paint a picture, whittle something, but to let a creature starve to death for the hell of it? Absolutly disgusting, but the salon should be held accountable too for letting this abuse happen in their presence.

Why is not in jail?
Who cares if it's art, It's illegal.
Could i murder and call it art to get away with it?
2007-10-19, 3:09 PM #26
I was throwing out questions more-or-less to see how people responded. I find Rob's especially... amusing?

I (the vet, not me) put my golden retriever to sleep last Christmas, and it was one of the saddest things I've gone through in my life. She stopped eating, and for about two weeks, starved herself until we just had to end her suffering.

At the same time, though, I've eaten animals that people in an American culture would consider pets. It was sad because it was my dog. It's interesting how relative the value of animals are. I have a total lack of empathy for the hell that cows, chickens, and pigs go through for the good of a mechanical system that puts food on my plate.
They do, however, serve a purpose that has a greater good. If someone said that this guy starved the dog for the greater good of art, I'd have to say that it was very much not worth it. Twas merely a sick abuse of what dogs are for.

No, it's not. Chaining an animal up so other people can watch it starve to death is disgusting. The artist is disgusting for doing it, and every single person who walked in the gallery and didn't do a damn thing about it is disgusting.

I'm really starting to hate the post-modern era of art. It's sad when you see morons like that so-called "artist" starving a dog in the name of "art". I really don't care what world-view you might have but I'm sure anyone can agree that starving an animal to death for no reasonably sound purpose (not like a purpose would matter in this case) is a form of cruelty.

TE, maybe he's not in jail because his culture sees nothing wrong with what he did. Don't like it? Maybe you should invade his country impose your culture on them, in true burgerboy fashion. Or better yet, deal with it and get over yourself.

Read the article then comment lest you look like a moron. It's not culturally acceptable to tie a dog up and starve it to death in Costa Rica.

What about that guy who made naked Jesus out of chocolate?

I personally think that that was art.

This however, is not art. Now I'm not upset to the extent that some of you are, but it's still wrong to gain profit/fame by starving or otherwise hurting a living animal.

Although most of the animals we eat suffer more than that dog.
2007-10-19, 5:59 PM #38
I bet you could call it performance art if you had broken his exhibit open and taken the dog away. It mentions in the article that he found the dog tied up somewhere. Either that's an abandoned animal (probably quite likely) or he just plain stole and murdered someone's dog.
[edit] It also says he paid some kids to chase the dog down and catch it. Hmmm... there seem to be some facts missing... [/edit]

-Also, I find Freelancer's belief that Costa Ricans wholeheartedly support the starvation of a dog for "artistic purposes" humorously racist :)

Regardless of what it means, there is a culture of animal rights groups in the country. Thus, your comment about what the guy did being culturally acceptable is off base.
