An important message to you all...
2007-10-20, 6:57 PM #1
Over the past few months (since my adminship) I've been rather lax on enforcing Massassi rules. Part of this was that I did not want to disrupt the community, making a poor judgment choice or something similar.

However, now that I'm owner, I feel I can't be conservative any longer. Over the past months (or longer) Massassi has become rather hypocritical of it's specified rules. Now, I could simply strike those rules from the forums, but I think it would be a far wiser decision to enforce them fully.

The rules are fitting with Brian's original vision of Massassi, which is what created the community we have today. I do not wish to bind Massassi only to what Brian has done, but in this particular matter I feel it's the best path to take.

The rules I refer to in specific involve ones of swearing and pornographic nature. Yes, most of us are men. We're aware of what sex is. And yes, we're older than we were 6 years ago during Massassi's prime. I don't feel that this is enough to excuse such behavior.

So, I would like, with the help of you all, to at least calm down on the "asshair" discussions, random usage of "penis", etc. I don't want to completely filter these, I know we have some legitimate topics on the matter, and I have no plans on interfering with those. I feel it's gotten to the point where we are really contradicting ourselves. We talk about random sexual stuff as if it doesn't matter, but when a newgrounds link is posted, we react strongly.

I'm sure some of you will see this as a "fun-killer", and I assure you I do not want that. I just believe we can be a bit more creative, don't you?

Another couple of rules I also wish to discuss are "spam" and "flaming". Rather, the abundance of it. So in hopes of reducing incidents of these, I'm going to throw out my interpretation of what they mean, so that you all can avoid doing it.

spam: The "period" quoting. Posting numerous polls. Continuously posting off-topic. And of course, attempting to have a higher posts-per-day ratio than Avenger.

flaming: An intentional act of aggression written to stir up emotions in another member. A good example is posting to a member's thread insulting their thread without contributing whatsoever to the thread itself. The "smiley rule" is very important here. A simple :hist101: goes a long way to expressing your true intentions with a post.

While the first matter is certainly up to interpretation and discussion, I think the second matter of spamming and flaming is pretty dead-set.

Feel free to post your opinions, I'm sure many of you feel strongly about these matters. I do want to listen. I hope the admins will put in some serious consideration to these.

Thanks for reading.

(Oh, and posting TL;DR means you will be confined to ISB where you will remain until you post on NeS^2 at least 10 times.)

Sounds like a good plan. I'll vibe for a new era of awesome for Massassi (and a new era of "volunteers" who post "tl;dr" in this thread :awesome: ).

Agree. The clean nature of massassi forces people to be just a tiny bit more creative at the very least. If you want to cuss and talk about stupid stuff, well, there's pretty much the entire remainder of the internet for that.

The following users will probably have to be perma-banned for this to work:

That is all.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Personally I think this is an excellent way to go to maintain the feel/atmosphere of the site. Plus it sounds like there would need to be a crackdown on TE. :P
nope.

They should consider this post a "last warning" then. :colbert:

I'm still really annoyed that my thread is being lumped with threads about penis' and erections, and more annoyed that it was randomly closed. Even if no one enjoyed the thread, I think we're a little more mature than to consider a video about a medical procedure to be equal to penis jokes.

...It was a thread with one video and then nothing but random smilies. It honestly wasn't that good. Plus I'm sure nobody wants to know about how your colon is so hairy that you have trouble pooping.
nope.

Yeah. I don't get what the big deal about that thread was.

I dunno. Imagining JediKirby and having that "hair" being removed is a pretty disturbing mental image. I mean, just the thought of it, placing yourself as the doctor...

I don't want to dig into it too much, but when I watched the video I didn't get the feeling it was just a "medical procedure" video. And regardless, it wasn't directed precisely at you.

All I have to say is "WOO HOO!", and that I will do my best respect the rules, and try to let mods take care of any "unpleasantness" in the future.

Your "medical procedure" was about getting private hair lasered off. There was 0 potential for any kind mature discussion. Potty humor is potty humor, if there was some other point to the thread, I must have missed it.

You need a new title. "Usuyami no Sekai" doesn't fit for the owner of Massassi.

tl;dr.

Just kidding, please don't banish me to the ISB :gonk:

Anyway, I agree with what you posted. Although as you say we're all a lot older... we seem to have more immature posts/discussions now.

You still have to have some immature stuff going on, like Martyn said, but we really do need to cut back on the amount. That seems to be all that goes on around here anymore. The serious discussions are few and far between when compared to the silly topics.

Also, I agree that the flames have to stop. Almost every thread these days seems to have attacks on other members, leading to the thread being derailed. We've all gotten older - why shouldn't we act that way?
2007-10-21, 8:05 AM #24
I completely agree with Zecks - the flaming is getting quite ridiculous these days.
2007-10-21, 8:11 AM #25

I'm not trying to turn this into an "OMG ADMINZ R CORRUPTZ" thread. Some do a good job with the admin work but I will say that several admins are pretty big dicks that break their own rules when they actually attempt to enforce them. This is a solid truth around here, even though I expect some of them are going to try to defend themselves from this. This is really a pretty good example of how bad flaming has gotten. It's very common among some admins.

That is all.

I'd like to apologize to everyone for my poor thread last saturday. It wasn't funny but was immature, and I should have thought twice before posting it.

Sorry again to those it offended (Echoman, Obikwiet, etc.)

I think this is a move in the right direction. In order for massassi to survive, we need new members. In order to keep new members, we need to not cook every single one of them over an open fire.

It's easy to get people to stop being noobs. All the old members have to do is stop posting in the lame threads. Show some self-restraint and the problem will solve itself.

Would be nice to see the flaming and overall trolling toned down. I currently have 12 people on my ignore list, most of them being regulars. It's kinda tiresome to see practically half a thread with posts hidden because of my ignore list :P

Just because you report alot of posts and you don't get your way out of it doesn't mean the admins are corrupt.

Most of the admins right now are really level headed and I like it.

yeah, rob. I was just about to say Sithlord is probably talking about mb. He's the only admin who belittles and mocks members. for a stellar admin look at JG.
