Over the past few months (since my adminship) I've been rather lax on enforcing Massassi rules. Part of this was that I did not want to disrupt the community, making a poor judgment choice or something similar.
However, now that I'm owner, I feel I can't be conservative any longer. Over the past months (or longer) Massassi has become rather hypocritical of it's specified rules. Now, I could simply strike those rules from the forums, but I think it would be a far wiser decision to enforce them fully.
The rules are fitting with Brian's original vision of Massassi, which is what created the community we have today. I do not wish to bind Massassi only to what Brian has done, but in this particular matter I feel it's the best path to take.
The rules I refer to in specific involve ones of swearing and pornographic nature. Yes, most of us are men. We're aware of what sex is. And yes, we're older than we were 6 years ago during Massassi's prime. I don't feel that this is enough to excuse such behavior.
So, I would like, with the help of you all, to at least calm down on the "asshair" discussions, random usage of "penis", etc. I don't want to completely filter these, I know we have some legitimate topics on the matter, and I have no plans on interfering with those. I feel it's gotten to the point where we are really contradicting ourselves. We talk about random sexual stuff as if it doesn't matter, but when a newgrounds link is posted, we react strongly.
I'm sure some of you will see this as a "fun-killer", and I assure you I do not want that. I just believe we can be a bit more creative, don't you?
Another couple of rules I also wish to discuss are "spam" and "flaming". Rather, the abundance of it. So in hopes of reducing incidents of these, I'm going to throw out my interpretation of what they mean, so that you all can avoid doing it.
spam: The "period" quoting. Posting numerous polls. Continuously posting off-topic. And of course, attempting to have a higher posts-per-day ratio than Avenger.
flaming: An intentional act of aggression written to stir up emotions in another member. A good example is posting to a member's thread insulting their thread without contributing whatsoever to the thread itself. The "smiley rule" is very important here. A simple goes a long way to expressing your true intentions with a post.
While the first matter is certainly up to interpretation and discussion, I think the second matter of spamming and flaming is pretty dead-set.
Feel free to post your opinions, I'm sure many of you feel strongly about these matters. I do want to listen. I hope the admins will put in some serious consideration to these.
Thanks for reading.
(Oh, and posting TL;DR means you will be confined to ISB where you will remain until you post on NeS^2 at least 10 times.)
