Kind of scary that you can just buy that.

That is very nice...I've been wanting to shoot one for a long time now. How much was it, and do you get to carry it in your car?

$675 minus my trade. I could, but I don't need one in my own vehicle, and we already have them in our cruisers.

Yeah - we have AR15s, and will soon have Remington 870s as well. The guys in our department who are on the regional SWAT unit have select-fire M4 carbines.

I think he's claiming that M16 varients aren't real guns. However, I've put plenty of holes in stuff at the range that lead me to believe otherwise. :P

You'll need those 870s for the new taser shotgun rounds if they work like they should, haha...

Can you legally own that? I had no idea people could LEGALLY own rifles like that.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Yes. That is, as long as you don't live in a state which decided to strip its people of their Second Amendment rights, and if you're legally able to own a firearm in the first place.

I could legally have an automatic weapon, btw.

If it's semi-auto, it's legal. Some states also have restrictions on how big the magazine can be as well.

We have a couple guys with select-fire M4 carbines. Law enforcement has its privileges. :)

JESUS. That is ridiculous...I mean, sure it's a complicated piece of equipment with a very specific and rare use, but damn.

Anyway, with the assault weapons ban no longer in effect, what exactly ARE the laws on automatic or burst fire weapons, or all those accessories they had limited...?

The AWB didn't have anything to do with automatic weapons - just accessories...collapsible stocks, detachable magazines, pistol grips, etc. As such, this gun is now legal -- doesn't have to be made prior to September '97. :)

Is that Panther arms? Manufactured in my town, St. Cloud, MN.
2007-11-07, 1:57 PM #26
I think you're allowed to own automatic weapons that are made before 1986 if you have the tax stamp and live in the right state. I don't live in the US, but that's my TFR impression anyway.

you have a basic understanding

all automatics registered before may of 1986 are transferable... this requires some extra paperwork, fingerprints, a $200 per firearm tax stamp, and permission from local law enforcement... on top of the insanely high price that people can ask due to limited availability

i want an AR-15 style rifle but want to go with a vietnam style configuration which means my best option is the build it yourself option... just need extra money to get a good lower and a complete M16 or M16A1 parts kit
eat right, exercise, die anyway

OHMIGOD, THAT LEWKS DANGRUS!

I like how there are several rifles that simply shouldn't be sold to civilians that are, and then there are rifles which are perfectly safe that are banned because they look dangerous.

nice... though i like the look of a detachable carry handle more.

i hope the HK416 becomes available to civilians in the near future. the direct impingement gas operation of the ar-15's doesnt seem fun (or smart).

Made in St. Cloud Minnesota? Maybe I can go there and get factory-direct prices. :psyduck:

I saw an HK416 dangling from some dudes back at an undisclosed Utah military installation. I think he was in 10th SFG or something. Anyway, He took the bolt out to show me and apparently had fired 2000 rounds that day and not cleaned it yet. The bolt face was nearly clean. I looked down in shame at my M16A4 that was ****ing nasty from 500 rounds.

However, with proper care and lubrication the direct impingement system will run for a long, long time. The piston op system is just more foolproof.

Also, please consider that this is probably more dangerous than the weapon posted. Also consider that JLee lives in the United States where owning military equivalent small arms is a constitutional right.

That's sweet though man, I have never used that brand but have heard good things.

You know, I've never quite understood why AR15s seemed to be the "Holy Grail" to firearms owners...

Because most firearms owners want to be GI Joe.

AKM FTW.

If I'm not mistaken that "real" GI Joe carried a Garand and probably a KABAR.
