I know i shouldn't, this thread will probably be gone in a flash, but i have to. This thing just pisses me off.

As everyone probably knows, if one was to make a thread about masturbation, it would get censored immediately, locked or deleted, and the poster would get banned.
I understand this, i understand that the forum content should be suitable for anyone, the rules say this too.

Now, we still can have a thread with a video of skinning cats and dogs alive, it doesn't get locked, it doesn't get censored, no complaints. If i posted a thread with a picture of a penis, no matter how educational the thread subject would be, if there was a picture of an erect penis, the thread would get censored, locked, and the poster banned.

Honestly, don't you think that there's anything wrong with it?

I have to agree, although most of the mods are awesome here :hist101:

I agree too, Cave Demon.

Though I didn't look at the cat and dog thread, and would most likely not look at a masturbation thread either.

So it doesn't really bother me.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

I have to agree with Anovis, which includes my agreement with you.
The judgment of what is and isn't offensive is based on different ethics and morals. Most subject matter regarding sexuality tends to be instantly red-flagged due to a mostly religion-based set of standards that exist in America and some other places.

Many "religion-based sets of standards" usually frown on animal cruelty, too.

Also, you can post a picture with swear words in it, but if you type the word, it's a ban?

Yeah, but most organized religions seem to have a really big problem with sex. :(

This is coming from an abstinent Christian. Even so, I don't feel that we need to stifle the topic of sex, as it is an incredible gift from God.

As far as the original post; however, how often do you get a serious business penis discussion on the Internet? :v:

Maybe because there was a warning given before the video, and the first frame of the video had nothing gross in it? There's nothing wrong with posting links to violent things if it is to demonstrate how wrong they are and get the word out about them. If SAJN had posted that thread asking everyone to laugh at that video you can bet he would have been banned at the drop of a hat.

If you want to censor things bad things because you don't want to think or do anything about them than you are a coward.

So you are saying, if i posted a link to a porn thumbs site, and warned about it, it'd be ok? I bet the mods disagree.

Hasn't it happened before? Regardless, the situations are totally dissimilar. It's be like banning links to articles about genocide. Sure it's disturbing, and I can see if you might not want to see pictures, but discussing things like that is important. Discussing porn is not.
2007-12-11, 11:29 AM #16
Why is discussing porn not important? Feminists find it really damn important. I personally think it depends on the context in which it's posted.

If i made a serious thread, and i had to post a picture of an erect penis in the thread, it would get me banned. Then again, a video about skinning animals alive won't. This is my point.

The forums are moderated like movies are rated. Brutal violence and murder? PG-13. An unclothed person? R.

It's stupid and backwards but whatever; we live with it or we go someplace else.

Graphic violence? Yeah. But you can definitely show a guy getting shot in the head and get a PG-13 rating, and even if they cut away quickly and/or don't show much or any blood (thus not being "graphic"), I think that still counts as "brutal".

But they were skinning dogs alive. And even showed a dog without skin, and still living. that's not being shot in the head and quickly cutting away.

Okay I never actually watched that video, you're right though, that would get an R rating. I was speaking more generally about television and movies.

It should depend on how serious a thread is. The animal thread, though I only skimmed it, has a serious topic and has probably maintained a certain level of maturity.

About the penis thing, yeah, American culture rarely observes the distinction between nudity and sex. We seem too immature to handle plain nudity. I've heard that American movies can show all of the violence they want, but can't show much nudity, whereas European movies can show more nudity but not as much violence. If true, that doesn't speak well for attitudes on this side of the pond - it makes us seem rather sick.

Guys, instead of arguing amongst ourselves we should be united in placing the blame squarely upon the man who deserves it: Wolfy.

That's right Wolfy, I'm calling your lazy *** out! What are you gonna do about it? Infact me? Bring it the F on!

Welcome to America.

SEX BAD.

VIOLENCE GOOD.
2007-12-11, 2:07 PM #34
Here's the reasoning:

A. the animal video, while violent, had warnings in place.
B. The video's only purpose was to substantiate the discussion
C. The discussion was an intelligent, mature and controversial topic, not "LOL BOOBS".

Had the thread not meat all three, then yes action would have been taken. In any regard, the thread should be watched carefully anyway.
2007-12-11, 3:44 PM #35
Someone could post a short story about violence, and it'd be fine. If someone posted a short story about buttsex, it wouldn't be.

Also, guys, there's like 5 mods/admins active. Yecti, JG, Vin, CM and Vin. They're not gonna catch EVERY LITTLE THING.

Give it a break.

Oh yeah, and while you're breaking, whine less. Seriously. Please don't tell me this is a resurge of the days of whining at massassi--that would be lame as ****
