New Doom 3 trailer

I never played the game, but every surface in the trailer looks quite shiny. Good thing?

Its called sheen. Nearly everything in the real world reflects light to some extent.

yeah, but they have to get it just right tyo nmake it look good. Too much sheen makes everything loook like its made of plastic.

The low res textures also worsen it. Larger, more visible pixels make it look more like shiney plastic.

Play Painkiller.

Using the Painkiller. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] Always fun. (OHOH I FOUND A SECRET TO THIS WEAPON! Hold primary fire, then use secondary to launch the blade as it's spinning. LITERALLY TEARS THROUGH ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif] )

I guess American attitude to game prices is the same as American attitude to petrol or diesel prices.

New games over here are generally in the region of £30-40. That's about $55 to $72. The thing is that I'm willing to pay that much for a good game, and I have faith in Doom 3. And Half-Life 2.

Yes, our attitude is the same. We don't liek ti when it's on the extreme upper end of our normal price spectrum. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/rolleyes.gif]

Bah, I am pissed. I was hoping to get a Best Buy add in the Sunday paper, to see if there was some info on Doom 3. Ironically there was none [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

Just curious, do European cars (BMWs, VW, Merc.) cost as much as they do here in the US?

Okay first--talking about the alpha=AGAINST THE RULES unless I'm mistaken? I mean not to be a mini-mod, but a while back I brough up an issue where someone got banned from the chat for saying "I played the alpha". C'mon guys.

That said, the alpha said nothing about the game and it's direction. It was a collection of gameplay demos, meant to show off Doom 3, and didn't even look that great. It was for 2001 unless I'm mistaken. Jesus, 3 years. Give the guys at id a break.

Last--55 bucks. More than worth it. A Carmack masterpiece of an engine, and a great SP experience, along with what I imagine will be a VERY modded and mapped multiplayer experience, is definitely worth my money.

You are so right... if you mean salivating in PAIN. I loved the originals, but my god, what have they done to the series?? That is not a Doom game. I'll try the demo, and will buy it eventually, but really, if they slapped another name onto it, would anyone think "Gasp! Secret Doom 3?!?"

Meh. There are a lot of fans of the originals that think this one is great. Frankly I'd like to know what you would rather see.

Something along the lines of the Doom games I and II would do quite nicely.

I just feel like they took a completely opposite direction with this game than the originals. It might still have some Doom flavor.. but there's no nostalgia involved or anything. That's what a sequal from an old game should do.

I'm happy with what id has done with Doom 3. I think they've managed nicely to update the old Doom monsters and making them look much more menacing. The old Doom games rocked (and still do), no doubts there. But let's face it, today, their graphics and designs are nothing short of cartoonish.

And you're right, they did take Doom 3 in a different direction than the old ones. The reason being that players expect so much more from a game today than they did 10 years ago.

------------------
I bet you think that's funny, don't you.

So you've played it, then? Doom 3, that is.

Phobos, Deimos, Mars, demons and carnivorous aliens. Yeah I probably would think it was Doom 3.

Plus what I have seen in interviews with id, mainly Carmack himself, this is really what he originally envisioned for Doom. The time was right, and this was his chance to remake Doom the way he originally visioned it.
