I spent a fair amount of time spiffying my car so I'd thought I'd disguise my efforts in a "post your" thread. Detailing enthusiasts: You see the imperfections/scratches on the hood? I wish to eliminate those. Would a good polish remove those or is this gonna take something more?

Car specs:
2006 Chevrolet Cobolt LT coupe.
2.2L DOHC ECOTEC engine 145 HP @ 5,600 RPM (I swear it feels like more)
MPG: ~33 Freeway ~24 City (if I'm not driving 85 MPH)
Front WD
Front discs/Rear drums.

Edit: I'm also looking for new rims 17" or 18". 4x100. Anybody got any of those or know of a good place to get them?

GOOD LORD... sorry I didn't know the cobalt engine was that terrible. No offense, but a 2.2L DOHC motor with only 145hp?? the 1.8L R18 motor honda makes is a SOHC and it makes 160. a K20 (2.0L) DOHC cranks out almost 200hp... both motors get over 30mpg too.

Anyways, off my high horse. Scratches in white paint are barely noticeable, thats why white is a great color. Depending on the depth and what scratched them, some polish or rubbing compound then wax may help.

As for my ride (not this EXACT car, but the same model).

Which is baffling. You'd think that a 145 HP motor would be gutless. It's not. Yeah real steep hills it has some challenges but not where I have to keep the pedal to the floor just to maintain 70 MPH. And it also has a good start off the line. I wonder if it is the emissions technology (the ECOTEC) that sucks the HP. I read some stuff on it and it's a pretty clean burning engine.

with the exception of the prelude's engine, hondas have lots of hp and not a lot of torque, which makes them still feel gutless going uphill.

Yeah, but I don't mind a downshift... whats the point of having a car that can rev to 8000+ if you dont use it occasionally.

Also, Honda has just began entering the forced induction arena.. the K23 (Acura RDX I think) has a boosted 2.3L 4 banger pumpin 260hp ... mmmmm

What he said. The most blatant example of this being the Honda Ridgeline (truck/car/thingy-ma-bob. Whatever you want to call it).

2 months ago when I was standing near an intersection, I heard the distinct sound of a Civic SI with a cold-air intake. I turned around only to discover it was a friggin Honda Ridgeline. This is further proof that Honda should not be making trucks.

Please, please, stick to what your good at Honda. High revving cars.

JG, I hate to say it but your interior will be falling apart in two years time. I work on lower-end GM cars all the time and they are ALL falling apart. The Cobalt does seem to be a decent improvement over the Cavalier though, it's just that Chevy should've done that 10 years ago.

As for the wheels, look on TireRack.com.

I don't know any of the specs of the Pontiac but it seems like they are putting sub-par parts in a car that will only sell because it looks much more expensive than it really is. Reminds me of the Ford Mustang GT models of the last 10 years.

Forgot about this one. Many cars have drum brakes on the rear. Unless it's a performance car or a heavy vehicle it doesn't need rear discs because the front does about 80% of the braking anyway.
