I use the disc drive on my desktop machine maybe a handful of times a year, can't really imagine needing one on a laptop if it's just my travel machine.

If I'm travelling with it - for instance on a train, I often use mine for watching DVDs. I suppose if I knew I was going to be taking it from home I could use a different machine to rip the DVD to my hard drive. I also regularly use my laptop for burning CDs on the go.

I suppose the machine just wouldn't suit me, but it doesn't mean that Apple haven't found a truckload fo people whom it does suit though.

Either way, it is still rather secksay.

Maybe you could haul around a second laptop and serve its optical drive wirelessly

Only for installing it turns out :P

If you want an optical drive you have to drop £65 on the add-on superdrive (which also only works on the Air and not any other Mac to add :psyduck: to anyone who's only got a combo drive).

It's not a good deal unless you're some sort of rich weakling who can't manage a real laptop.

I wonder if the ladies dig it though, it's totally worth it if they do. In the end isn't that what it's all about?
