The new Star Trek movie looks pretty dark
2008-01-22, 2:07 AM #1
It's only a teaser, but still looks cool.

Hopefully they won't cock it up. Hopefully it'll be like, say, Batman where there were several crappy movies and then they start over with an AWEOMSE one.

That gave me a funny feeling in my tummy. Oh sweet Jesus, if it's good, it will likely make my year.

Star Wars could use something like that too >>

It's dark because they spent so much money on the SFX budget that they forgot to buy lights.

The teaser looked good but honestly that little doesn't actually yet tell anything about the movie.

Still, I will rather wait hoping for a good movie than expect a bad one.

I found a viral marketing thingy.

Click the little red light next to UNDER CONSTRUCTION (popup might be blocked so you'll have to whitelist the site).

Move the sliders to adjust the frequency modulation of the... well ok it just fixes the cameras.

Magic numbers for me are 564, 125, and 289 for #4 (camera 3 shows nothing).

Camera 3 at 964.

Camera 4 is searching for signal...

See, with a movie like Casino Royale, I could take the rebooting of the franchise. Bond films really haven't tied together horribly well over the years, so it was no big deal. But with Trek, there is so much history, and an incredibly well-defined canon, that this flick worries me. It might be new and exciting, but I don't want it to lose what made Trek so special. Still, probably can't be worse than V or Nemesis....

It has Simon Pegg. It can't go wrong.
nope.

Except, the bulk of the Star Trek films were horrible.

Not all of them were, be there were more crappy films than there were good ones.

It's not a reboot, it's only a prequel.

Interesting. I think one of the cameras is always offline, and it must depend on some constant factor... maybe the IP you're browsing from.

I just went through a proxy and now camera 2 is the one that's down.

Hmm I refreshed on the proxy and now camera 1 is the one that's down... odd.

OK it just seems to be random.

2008-01-22, 9:37 AM #15
All you have to do is refresh, it's just randomized on load.

Not that it matters anyway, since the videos show absolutely nothing worth looking at. "WOOO THEY'RE BUILDING THE ENTERPRISE!" It's just more of the teaser crap.

What's all this negativity? II, III, IV, VI, Generations, and First Contact were all good if not great. The others are still not bad.

Insurrection was the best NTG one.

:/
nope.

All I have to say is that if this movie reminds me of Lost or Cloverfield, I will be very sad.

Don't get me wrong. I didn't like Nemesis or Insurrection as much, but I still own all four TNG movies.

First Contact was a decent film even as a standalone. I look forward to this.

And in related news I'm watching the 6th series of 24 and have just realised that Dr Bashir from DS9 is in it. Random!

I usually only like the even-numbered Star Trek films (II, IV, VI, Generations.) Of the odd ones I like, First Contact is probably my favourite Trek movie. Insurrection blew, as did Nemesis. Killing the "even-numbered Trek movies are better" theory.

The Even/Odd rule of Star Trek (odd numbered movies are awful, even numbered movies are fantastic) was ruined by Nemesis.

Which means.. we're in for two good movies in a row!

It's a law.

That rule is stupid. III had Doc Brown as a Klingon. No way it's on the bad list.

III isn't really bad, but it pales in comparison to II. Then IV is awesome again, and V is probably the worst.

I enjoyed the one on one space battle aspect of it, though. Normally it's phasers until shields down, then they beam over. The kind of ship combat they had in Nemesis was different, and the ramming scene was just simply awesome.

Blue skies smiling at me. Nothing but blue skies do I see... :(

Insurrection was one of my favourites, it had a very nice feel to it. It felt like Star Trek was about discovery again rather than just beating a random bad guy.

Insurrection was good but that's because it was basiclay just a long episode.
And I like nemisis, there's nothing wrong with cloning, it's not the first time they've done it on star trek.

Oh, and the teaser trailer was the most worthless waste of time I've seen in quite a while. It gave no new information at all. There is simply no reason for it to exist.

But you still don't know that it doesn't look lame. From that trailer you know that there is a new trek movie, and that it features the enterprise before the original series.
I would rather have read the previous sentance than watch that trailer.
It would have been cheaper, quicker and all around more effective.
