I like how everywhere I read about this one of the first things people ask is, "Are they done filming the new Batman yet?"

I just don't get it. Are their lives painful and/or boring that famous celebrities have to resort to dangerous drugs?

I dare anyone to go to his funeral with a magic marker and draw a smile on his face and say "LET'S PUT A SMILE ON THAT FACE!"

That's a real shame, he was really just starting to break out in better films rather than just A Knight's Tale and 10 Things I Hate About You with Brokeback Mountain, I'm Not There, and The Dark Knight. :(

Wow, I thought for sure the topic was a spoiler that Joker dies in the new movie, or something like that. This is a shame, I was just starting to respect him as an actor. Was really looking forward to seeing what was next for him.

Sleeping pills aren't exactly the most glamarous way of getting high. I'm sure he could afford to freebase some 8-balls if we wanted to go out in style.

It feels sort of unreal. It will be weird watching Dark Knight and thinking the dude isn't around to bask in the glory he might have gotten from his acting.

I hope Joker isn't expected to return in any of the sequels or anything.

Actually I recall reading somewhere that Nolan has intentions of not having the Joker die in The Dark Knight. I wonder now if it's possible that they'll reshoot an ending where the Joker dies. The guy died so long though....only 29. And like someone said, his career was really starting to take off.

See, that's what I didn't want to hear... Cause I was hoping they wouldn't kill him. He's too good a character to kill. Now he won't be coming back, I hope it doesn't mess the ending up terribly badly.

Holy stat. That's motherlating Heath Ledger. That doesn't even seem possible.

And I didn't even care about the batman movie. It's just so sad to see such a young actor die.

As I understand it, he was having some serious sleeping difficulties due to his role as The Joker hence the sleeping pills... Seriously gotta see this movie now.

After the seeing the trailer his makeup made me think "the crow" and both actors passed away tragicly.

The drugs themselves aren't necessarily dangerous--it's more the amounts, varieties, and different kinds of drugs they can buy with the money and fame they have. Get an amphetamine, some coke, some x, a few vicodin, some alcohol, maybe a xanax, and a seroquel in your system and you'll be ridiculously ****ed up, probably have a seizure, but most of these people just know "I took a pill from every color in the rainbow this morning". They just wanna get ****ed up and have fun, much like the kids around the world who get drunk before they're legal, except they have bigger reserves at their disposal.

Also a lot of times the drugs end up killing the person because they are alone and unable to get help at the time.

Come on, you know you'd totally hit it twice. Which is really like hitting it four times if you hit both of them.

Well, it's not necessarily just for the purpose of having fun or easing your woes. Doctors are known to stop short of giving prescription drugs and say "just take 6 ibuprofen at a time" as a prescription dosage. From this people tend to make the assumption that it's "ok" to take such a sizable dosage on a regular basis each time they get a headache or whatever.

And I'm not saying thats what happened in Ledger's case, but it certainly does happen.
2008-01-22, 9:46 PM #37
Don't know about you, but anything less than a prescription sized dose has ever been much of a help to any migraine I've ever had.

it was just a little jarring. Completely from nowhere - I'm going up to dinner and the person swiping my card goes "did you know Heath Ledger died? Enjoy your dinner!"

I mean, how does one react to that?
Fincham: Where are you going?
Me: I have no idea
Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.
