New SW:FU shots.

New footage of Force Unleashed. I hope it isn't just a tech demo with a game latched on, but I will say it looks more interesting than the last trailer.

Oh yeah, crates. Everywhere.

Hopefully it won't suck. The tech behind this and the new Indy game looks pretty astonishing.

I hope they port it to the PC though...the modding potential would be phenomenal. But per usual, I'm sure, LEC will be way too short sighted to see it.

I'm watching the character video thing. I'm not sure how I feel about it. The love interest and droid sidekick look seriously lame. It's something George insisted upon. Thanks, George.

It does look like they are "serious" about the game given the amount of resources they've put into it. Between this and the new Indy game, I'd actually considering buying a 360 if they were not ported to the PC. Better not get cocked up.

Well, FU (har..) is the only game I can recall where they did "the making of..." documentaries before actually showing any game footage. Its just that special.

I don't understand why it isn't being developed for the PC. LucasArts sold out somewhere around 2000. I can't recall a single in house game developed by LEC since 1999 that didn't completely suck balls. Supposedly they have been trying to turn around, but are failing miserably.

LEC seems to like to push quick titles out the door at the expense of quality. They don't seem to realize what a poor business plan it really is. Can you imagine if they had put the same work into SWG that Blizzard put into WoW? Blizzard has to have so much money at this point that they don't know what to do with it.

Maybe I'm underestimating how well ****ty Star Wars titles sell, but it seems they could be doing a lot better for themselves if they attempted to establish strong product lines and a good fan base.

Well, there is...Republic Commando. Which I thought had great potential, but it lacked the polish needed for it to be truly great (subpar enemy AI, latched on MP, level design issues). So, I can see that it may have been rushed out the door, but I can't confirm that.

Am I'm not really convinced on this "biomechanical AI" tech thing. I see them grabbing onto things, but I don't see how that's special in this case (In Indy game, it looks promising.) They seem to wiggle around alot after grabbing hold of a crate. Which there seems to be alot present (sorry).

I have hope in LA. Just some left. But if the game is nothing more than going around blowing crap (and crates..) at things, from point A to point B, I'm going to be disappointed.

Hehe, the "SW:FU" in the topic title got me thinking what would happen if a Star Trek game with the subtitle "Federation Unleash" would have for an abbreviation. ST:FU?

I still don't feel like waiting for this game. First they promised a game where you'd be Darth Vader, killing Jedis and executing beduins or whatever. Now a game where you're Vader's apprentice... and kill a lot of stormtroopers in the process? what

They should just make Imperial Commando or something. There hasn't been a single neat SW game since RC and even RC wasn't that perfect. Really fun, though.

Looks pretty good, I saw some early euphoria demos that looked promising... looks like they are doing a good job of implementing that.

Did Vader knight him with a lightsaber? Really?

The Euphoria engine looks wasted on this game. OOOH, THEY GRAB EACHOTHER AND THE SIDES OF GENERIC WASTE OBJECTS! Dumb.

The whole point is that they can wiggle around after grabbing a crate. In other games they'd just fall to their death as a ragdoll or use a hard-coded animation.

I'm not saying LEC is implementing it very well, but they're implementing it and that's more than every other game developer is doing.

Good christ, I swear your reaction to game trailers is getting dumber by the month.

I swear, unless its something you're a fanboi for, you seem to hate just about everything, and bash it instantly.

The physics engine they have looks cool, but I have a feeling that if they don't get it just right it will end up being really annoying.

I agree with Jep.
nope.

I can't believe this game is getting a release on every console under the sun, but not PC. I mean what the hell is that about? You would think Star Wars would be synonymous with PC gaming by now.

Euphora and DMM sound like really awesome technologies and thats really the only interest I have in this game. Needs less stormtroopers. Ugh.
2008-01-25, 8:36 AM #16
It's pretty awesome looking, I just think it's a bit silly that the 'natural reaction' that stormtroopers would apparently have to getting picked up would be to grab onto crates/each other and whatnot :)
2008-01-25, 8:40 AM #17
It looks like JA with Euphoria, which is sort of cool but beyond that it doesn't do much for me
2008-01-25, 8:51 AM #18
To be fair if I was picked up by a mysterious force I'd probably try to shoot the bloke doing it.
nope.

What annoyed me was when the guy was like "I wanted this terrifying rancor to burst through the foliage using the physics, pushing apart the plants!"

And then it shows this poorly animated rancor walking out from between some plants and sort of bumps one of them out of the way

Like if that's their idea of a landmark success, my hopes aren't high for this game

I pretty much agree with this. I think it'll depend on what they focus while building the actual campaign itself. If tons of puzzles and the whole of combat revolve around this one feature, it will indeed become very annoying. Right now, this demonstration seems very hung up on showing off the physics and characters clinging to things. Also, as Thrawn pointed out, what the dev described and what we saw on the screen with the rancor were two things. Let us hope they manage to push it further.

This game can definatly become a masterpiece if they do it right.

I for one am really psyched because it feels like I'm watching my own Dark Jedi rp character, Cyris Oscura on the scene. He wasn't an apprentice of Darth Vader, but he was completely wreckless and over the top with his use of the force. Fun stuff.

From that bit about the General who's a Jedi Master it seems to me the main character will probably betray Vader in the end. Or maybe it'll be up to the player.

To be fair, guys, it's fancy tech stuff that will sell a game, at least with trailers and making of movies.

I have a curious feeling that at the end, the main character will face his doom. If George really does have any say in this, whatsoever, there are chances he'll want the character erased from existence by the end of it.

Or at least exiled or something similar.

I reckon it'll be pretty good, or at least entertaining. But I can see it being denounced for not being as good as JK was when that came out. Might be one of the games that sways me towards buying a console.

I still think it looks way too over the top. Comical, even. All this... stuff, and they don't show us a situation where the Euphoria engine actually affects gameplay, like an enemy grabbing a railing when you try and push him off an edge, or something. And where are the limbs coming off? All this physics stuff, and there's no dismemberment? What's the point of a lightsaber if you don't cut people up?

Motion capture for facial animation is neat, though.

It'll either be awesome or it'll suck. I've not heard of any other game trying to do all this, so just give it a few iterations and we'll get some epic game that manages to do all of it right.
Wikissassi sucks.

There are some gameplay footage at IGN.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/847/847640p1.html

You can combine force powers to create new ones. Apparently you can also add electricity (thorugh the force) to your lightsaber swings too.
2008-01-25, 3:50 PM #34
There is no point.

Game designers are like little children. Little, feeble-minded children. They get a new toy - like realistic physics, drivable vehicles, colored lighting, lens flares - and they use it in all the wrong places. LEC's engine has amazing potential to add detail and realism to the game environment. But they aren't going to use it for that - they're going to add a puzzle where you have to throw a rock through a wall, if not ten or fifteen similar puzzles.
2008-01-25, 4:01 PM #35
Not all of them, Jon, but most. You're most certainly right about LEC and this game. Let's hope you're wrong, though.

If anything, FU (har..) would be the perfect "sandbox" experience for a would-be modder and would allow him to do all sorts of things with the physics, like people have mentioned before. So if they never release a PC version + editing tools for people to **** around with, I would frown. Unless of course, LucasArts doesn't want people to know that their new technologies isn't as deep as they said it would be and want to prevent people snooping around the resources. But that might be a bit :tinfoil: thinking.
