Why is there the assumption that games have to "fully-utilize" the engine they're running on? This is why we get things like crate-stacking in Trespasser and the darkness in Doom 3. It's not a smart way to do things and you end up with a game that's completely boring after the gimmick wears off.

Quake 4 was pretty rad though.

I really wish force unleashed was coming to PC. I probably won't play it on 360. 360 is just a Halo3 device for me.

Jon's point was that game's that fully (or at least try to) utilize the engine they're built on doesn't necessarily mean it'll make it a better game. As for Trespasser, that game was garage from the get go no matter how you slice it.

Hopefully having seen the Tech demo we can agree that the physics, though not necessarily coherently integrated yet into a game looks pretty damn stunning and could potentially serve as an excellent platform from which a very could game could emerge.

I just hope they fill out the 'feel' of the game and don't (as a few people have mentioned) just use the physics engine and nothing else to drive the mechanics of the game. Just because you can do fun things doesn't mean they stay fun if you have a 20 or 30 hour game to play doing just 2 or 3 things over and over again.

So long as they look at something like JK and see what made it great (the scale, the level design and the immersion) they have a chance of pulling off something really special.

Well the whole point of a gimmick is to make it more attractive to the consumer so as long as it seems cool for the first 10 minutes they'll buy it.

well then they should release it as a wii exclusive and get the double-whammy.

In that "Making of" video, they went into a lot of detail about how they got real actors to play the parts, but then the actual in-game characters' faces looked too low-poly to make it worth it.

Hardly ever felt useful? Have you even played the game? I was using the gravity gun pretty much constantly in it, especially in the ravenholm part.

The stormtroopers' aren't attached to their lower halves. When he picks them up their hips just kind of float below a gap below the torso.

I was in Big W (aussie department store) today looking at some LEGO and saw they've got a Force Unleashed set. It was a sweet looking Sith spaceship or something, with Darth Vader's Apprentice and a couple other figures.

I didn't think this game was going to be out for months, but the LEGO is already in stores?

Woolies sells toys, clothes, food, magazines, gardening stuff, dvds, games, consoles, household tools, paints, music etc. Just generally not in sufficient depth for it to be a place where you'd go to look for these things if there was another option.

Ah, well Big W is exactly like Woolies in that case. Although it is the only option for any of those things in my town. We've got seven stores devoted to porcelain cats and useless gypsy trinkets but only one store that actually has anything of worth.

We used to have BigWs but they all got rebranded.

And safeways is a supermarket that got bought out a few years back.
