Trading my 360 for a Wii
2008-01-31, 8:38 PM #1
Well, after I go refund my whole 360 bundle tomorrow I will have enough money to buy a Wii.

Now comes the finding a Wii part.

Ebgames looks promising with this bundle pack, but the "We reserve the right to substitute or remove any given item in a bundle if that item becomes unavailable when your console is available to ship" line kind of makes me reluctant from buying it there.

Any suggestions?

Because Wii is better than 360?

Dumb idea, you ask me. The Wii has Mario Galaxies as its one decent title right now, and Brawl is probably going to be the only other game worth playing. The 360 has tons of gameplay, and will keep having more and more games released on it. I really can't think of any reason to make such a poor choice. Brawl ALONE? It's a party game anyway, and is probably only going to be fun at parties.

As it's one decent title? Not a zelda fan?

Also, I would think that the Wii sales vs. 360 sales would say something about the quality of the system.
2008-01-31, 8:57 PM #7
That's a Gamecube game.

And sales doesn't say a thing about the quality of the system. It says something about the appeal of the system. How many gamers bought the Wii and play it regularly on their own? I'm willing to bet that number is minuscule, at best.

The only argument I might believe is the entire legacy games thing. I'd love to replay N64, Sega, and S/NES games on the Wii. That's about as far as a gamer is going to get with the system.

No. It talks about the quality of the marketing.

God kirby.

They finally make a game system in your size and all you do is ***** about it.

(It was the best I could come up with, I'm losing my touch. PS, this will get taken the wrong way because no one has a sense of humor)
2008-01-31, 8:59 PM #10
I hate the Wii commercials. :P

And Zelda is available on the GC. It's not strictly a GC game.

IRG, this is gonna get tough. Calling game stores 12 - 2 daily Monday-Friday.

I don't think I'll go for the bundle package.

I never meet a Wii owner who plays his Wii everyday, or hell, every week. I own a Wii and its been collecting dust. Maybe I'm too much a PC gamer but I fail to see how mini-game collections can entertain me for so long.

Doesn't matter really. I hate how these console-vs-console arguments develop. And I think gaming in general these days suck. I will say going for a system for basically one game in particular seems like a poor investment. It's like buying the PS3 to get ready for one exclusive title....oh wait.

The couple of wii games I have are REALLY FUN.

It's just that good games, truely good games for wii, are in a sort of short supply.

It's still a fun system, and at one time I used to hold drunk wii tennis matches weekly.
2008-01-31, 9:16 PM #14
But Rob. The Wii is more of a social thing, as you mentioned. *cough*

Heh, drunk Wii sports was pretty popular in college.

I like playing the tiger woods game on the Wii.

I knew what you were getting at.

I think we all know the real reason warlockmish is getting rid of his xbox is that none of us will play on LIVE with him.

Every person at my university who bought a Wii has either since sold it, or it is currently just collecting dust.

Until Brawl, that is.

Just because the Wii is roughly 2,000,000 units behind the 360 in the US shouldn't mean it's not a quality system. I mean, I wouldn't buy one, but that is no reason to knock it.

God, I am so glad I'm just sticking with my PS2 and PC. Anything that's worth getting is coming out for PC as well anyway. (Assassin's Creed, Devil May Cry 4)
obviously you've never been able to harness the power of cleavage...

Yeah, I can't honestly justify ANY system right now. The only worthwhile games are on the 360, minus 2 or 3 system only titles on the wii and ps3. All of the 360 games eventually make it to the PC. The PC subsequently has games (and a lack of paid networking) that wont come out on any systems.

D:

The Wii is about 300,000 behind the 360 in the US. It's over 2,000,000 ahead of the 360 worldwide. The Wii has also been out just over a year whereas the 360 has been out just over 2 years.
2008-01-31, 9:47 PM #24
Unfortunately most of the 360 -> PC ports suck.

Assassin's Creed, Gears, DMC4 will (cause it's better on CONSOLE DANGIT), etc.

Ugh. Some games belong on consoles, people.
2008-01-31, 9:51 PM #25
Well, they belong on consoles only because they were designed for consoles.

But to be fair, I can't imagine playing a perfectly ported super mario game on the PC.

Get a job and save up the money instead of trading in a $400 console for one that costs half as much?

He's trading it for one of the bundles which can be pretty pricy.

Worldwide sales figures
Wii: 20.13 million, as of December 31, 2007
Xbox 360: 17.7 million, as of January 3, 2008
PlayStation 3: 5.5 million shipped, as of March 31, 2007

US sales figures
Xbox 360: 9.15 million, as of January 1, 2008
Wii: 7.38 million, as of January 1, 2008
PlayStation 3: 3.25 million, as of January 1, 2008

I don't dislike the Wii, I just wouldn't buy one. It is also important to note that the figures do not denote unique users. Certainly thar be interbreeden goen on here.

Hrm, I misread the info on wikipedia. The 8.85 million sale for the Wii was in the "Americas".

In any case, you can't can't deny that the Wii sales are out performing the 360. :P

The Xbox had at least one month it sold better than the PS2. Units sold are great and I like Nintendo so I wish them success (even though the try to fail). I also recognize that the XBox has been out longer so sales are going to slow because, according to the figures, people who want them already have them. There is also a fair amount of cross-platforming. I bet a fairly sizable number of people own two or more of the consoles. Just enough to suggest that it isn't necessarily clear that so many are specifically chosing one over the other two. And then, of course, the biggest indicator is which console sells the most software because the fact is that selling hardware is not where the money is.

I play my roommate's Wii quite a bit. It's a fun system. I probably wouldn't buy it unless I had a lot of cash I didn't know what to do with, but I enjoy playing it.

I certainly wouldn't trade my 360 for it.

I have a Wii and a 360. I play the 360 almost daily. I haven't even touched the Wii in nearly a year.
2008-02-01, 12:38 AM #38
Sales figures don't denote the quality of a product. They denote the number of units sold. People bought Wiis out of curiosity. Then the novelty of waving a controller around wore off and there aren't enough games to keep people playing them.

I'll buy a Wii for smash bros, buy mario galaxy, and probably be done with it. Ultimately a letdown, unfortunately.

No, it's a GameCube game they ported to Wii.

Also you guys are forgetting Metroid Prime 3, which is a really awesome game too.
