I usually pick up a couple cases of SI over the course of a summer. My one house mate thinks I should put on a skirt when I do, but I tell him to **** off. They are incredibly refreshing on a hot day. Sure beer can be too, but I like to change it up once in a while. I could never get inebriated off of them, though. I agree that they are too sweet for that.

Its not a bad drink, good for the social drinker since I can drink a six pack and barely even get buzzed. I rarely drink them though since there's like 200 calories in one bottle.

No kidding, it's not like American brews have been beating European beers in the World Beer Cup lately or anything...

Also, Smirnoff Ice is a waste of perfectly good alcohol.

I've probably had a total of 2 SI's in my entire drinking life. I will die having had two in my entire life.

You mean the contest thats mostly entered by american breweries?

:P
nope.
2008-02-07, 12:59 PM #50
That's not completely true, the best European breweries are well represented. And the judges tend to be European or have a large number of them. In fact, this most recent one had mostly British judges if I remember correctly.

British beer is mostly crap.

I like a drink with a bit of flavor or tartness; I love a good gin and tonic, but Smirnoff Ice are pretty gross.

That's hardly true. Carling may be crap, but there's plenty of good English and Scottish beers, especially ales. Old Speckled Hen, Samuel Smith, Fuller's, Young's, etc etc

I never really understood men have such disdain for malt beverages. I think it's just combination of lack of self confidence and gender insecurity. :colbert:

I don't think drinking malts makes you a pussy. Maybe drinking three and then being drunk like my friend Troy, however.

In any case, I like stuff more like Mike's Hard Lemonade, which is actually quite tasty regardless of alcohol.

My drink of choice is either Ommegang Witte or Unibroue Blanche de Chambly. For beer, at least.

I like dry martinis quite a bit. :monocle:

Tangueray and pink lemonade with a shot of red bull is amazingly good.

To go a little off topic, I actually have just started recently, and have been mixing whiskey with coke or ginger ale. My friends tell me it's okay, but I don't know.

So, I guess it is. This bottle was a present. I think I'll move onto rum next.

Smirnoff Ice is 7% alcohol because it was designed to be a legal roofie.

Everywhere but in oklahoma beer is what...about 5.7% alcohol on average? Anyway, if you want to get trashed, just drink some harder stuff.

Beer is 4.2 on average. But some stuff you'll find has higher content--steel reserve cans are 6%, Honey Brown and Guinness are both 6% iirc, like that.

really? 4.2? That sucks. We call it 6-point around here, because in Oklahoma most beer is limited to 3-point, as in around 3%. Guess that's pretty inaccurate and misleading.

Generally it varies from state to state too. But all of your lights--bud, busch, coors, etc tend to be 4.2. Your specialty beers are usually 6.

There is nothing at all wrong with this. If I'm going to have a mixed drink (that is, not a cocktail like a martini), it's usually a Jim Beam and Coke.

Anyway, I suspect those who slam American beers have never had any of the really good ones. Fat Tire, Abita Turbodog, Rogue Juniper Pale Ale and the Dogfish Head IPAs are among my favorites and they're all American.

Tough to beat a Chimay Bleue (9%) or a Tripel Karmeliet (8%) for sheer wonderfulness, though.

Edit: And if you must drink something sweet, drink a lambic.

I can't drink em. Sure, they taste alright, but I can't tolerate how sweet they are. They give me a huge headache after one or two.

But I tell you what is AWESOME. Mix a 12oz Cherry Coke with one. It's delicious.

I started out on drinks like smimoff when I was a teenybopper but now I usually stick to pirate beer:

and whiskey with ginger ale.

What the hell is the big deal about smirnoff ice? Do you drink soda? I drink soda. How does adding alcohol to soda make it a "pussy drink"? I like SI because it tastes like Squirt, my favorite soda. Just happens to have a bit of alcohol in it. If I drink 4 and get a bit buzzed, then so be it. If I'm looking to drink because I want to get drunk it's obviously not the answer because I can easily get 5 smirnoff's worth of alcohol in one simple concoction of a drink and enough smirnoff to get you drunk will also get you sick.

But if I'm just chillin like working on a car or something, hell yeah I'll have one or two.
2008-02-07, 10:47 PM #79
Working on a car...drinking smirnoff...how the hell hasn't the universe exploded from testosterone conflicts by now if people actually do that.

Kudos to those who unashamedly like smirnoff ice. Those of you getting all defensive...well, that just goes to show!

Really though, it's all just opinion. I think a man drinking smirnoff ice is totally wussy, but I also think sports cars, the mitsubishi eclipse, the miata, red mustangs from the mid-90s up, any pontiac, apple computers, purses, whining, covering your face with your hand in cold wind, hair highlights, automatic transmissions, riding the bus instead of walking to class, not eating meat, riding a scooter, and the inability to do anything without being on the phone with someone is for women...so...I guess take it with a grain of salt. If you like smirnoff ice, enjoy it, it's not like me or these other people are slapping them out of your hand.
