While that is a crappy event, if that happened to me, I would have probably punched his lights out. If you know someone isn't gay, don't act like they are by doing things like 'asking them to be your valentine'. Not everyone finds homosexuality 'okay'. While some people tolerate it in society, others do not want it in their own lives.

Still tragic though...

Reminds me of a kid in my highschool, he kept following this one guy around who wasn't gay, saying things to him. One day the kid snapped and beat the crap out of him. He got what he deserved though, he was purposefully harassing the straight guy. Maybe this had happened before in the above case?

So because of that, it's okay to inflict violence on someone else just because you find their lifestyle "icky"?

My recommendation is that you go fall in a hole and die.

No shut up.

Why cant you just take it as a compliment and move on?

Nobody deserves to get killed because they complimented someone.

A mature person would respectfully decline. You can't beat someone up because you're a homophobe. Finish puberty and grow the **** up.

Honestly, you're no better than the kid who killed him.

Its not flattering, its disrespectful! If he KNEW that kid was not a homosexual, he should not have harassed him by asking that. He didn't deserve to die, but he would have deserved the punch.

or in a more 'politically correct' manner, a lawsuit for sexual harassment.

You're saying that complimenting someone is grounds for a violent response? Maybe in the case of your HS kid it could be construed as harassment, but responding violently still is not justified.

Why? Because you don't like the idea of a dick up an ***?

Where are you getting the idea that the kid knew? Even if he did know, it would be no more than high school level harassment which isn't usually worth punching someone. Maybe if the kid was being a persistent bugger and was harassing the kid for days or weeks, but certainly not once. For all you know, the kid knew he was straight but wanted to find out how a straight guy would react so he'd be able to better prepare himself for being let down.

Are you kidding?? So would it be okay for a woman to sue you because you asked her out but she turned out to be a lesbian?

How is that harassment? He asked the kid to be his valentine... Thats it.

just FYI:

Seriously grow the **** up and be mature. Would you SERIOUSLY punch some guy if he asked you to be his valentine?

Right. It's not flattering to know another man finds you attractive, because you're a homophobe. How was he to know the guy wasn't gay? Because all gays know all other gays? I guess you assume this because you're a homophobe. FYI, just asking someone out isn't harassment. If a fat girl asked you out would you punch her in the face? How was she to KNOW you weren't into fatties? That chubb was harassing me! BAW BAW BAW.

How do you reduce a punch in the face to a lawsuit? Listen pal, you can't catch aids from touching a gay person. Grow the **** up.

Apparently no one is reading, i said IF the kid knew. IF HE KNEW! Read it that time? I have not once in this thread assumed that he did not know the other kid was not gay.

If he didn't know then of course he wouldn't deserve to be punched. I'm just highly skeptical that this ONE incident caused a kid to go crazy and kill the other one. Then again, with parenting these days, kids don't know reality from fiction. (That's also my argument for 'videogames cause kids to be violent.' No, worthless lazy parents are typically to blame.)

In any case, this isn't about the kid being gay, its about someone else trying to project their beliefs upon you. If the kid knew he was not gay, then this would be no different than some *** trying to come convert you dispite knowing you are not of his faith. IE: How many of you athiests out there would love to punch the next bible hugger for telling you about God? Greenboy? Most people know better than do punch someone but theres only so much you can take. Like I said, I still doubt this was the first time this kid had done something to upset the other.

Actually, I have had many gay friends, and I made it CLEAR to them that I was not, and would not appreciate any comments of that nature, they respected that and we got along fine.

Oh really, is that what it is? I thought it was about a teenage boy being killed because someone was afraid of catching "the gay." You keep stressing this "if" of yours, but then you have the audacity to make a statement like this?

How does that not make sense? It would be like someone knowing you were allergic to peanuts yet offering you some. You don't eat peanuts, thats obvious... they are being a prick, and deserve to be punched.

With so many school shooting these days, how is this even surprising. People are dumb.
2008-03-07, 8:10 AM #22
Except that we don't know that, AoEJedi.

Obi, most school shootings are (to my knowledge) premeditated by kids who have been under incredibly mental, social, physical stress or are otherwise bat ****ing insane, which at least explains why they snap. I think people find this more shocking because it seems like "Hey will you be my valentine?" "AAHH A GAY" *BANG BANG BANG*

What you just said basically is "They know gay kills you, but they offer you gay. But youre not gay so you punch them."

Seriously dude, think a little bit. It really sounds like youre STILL trying to justify the other kids actions. Its not alright.

Right, exactly. You're homophobic. Telling another guy they're attractive isn't going to make you gay, get over it. Hey, watch this. Johnny Depp is hot. If I were gay, he'd be my type.

Oh look, I'm still straight. Freaking what.

Originally posted by KOP_AoEJedi:

So if he knew, he deserves a punch in the face? Whatever endless circumstances you can come up with for punching someone in the face and it being okay doesn't apply to a gay person simply asking someone to be their valentine.

Originally posted by KOP_AoEJedi:

Oh bull****. This is nothing like that. He didn't try to force the other guy to be gay. The only equivalent for that analogy would be a Christian asking an atheist if they want to exchange Christmas gifts.
2008-03-07, 8:18 AM #26
That's a bad analogy, because if the person's allergic reaction to peanuts results in anaphylaxis I would think that it's highly appropriate to punch the guy in the face and get as far away from the peanuts as possible.

Actually that's a pretty bad analogy. Most atheists probably like Christmas and wouldn't mind celebrating it, considering that the tradition of gift giving descends from Pagan tradition, not Christian. This is especially true for atheists that grew up in a Christian household and have an emotional connection to the holiday.

That was kind of my point. Most mature, well adjusted [athiest] people wouldn't punch someone in the face for wanting to exchange gifts.

Just in the way most mature, well adjusted [straight] people wouldn't punch someone in the face over something as trivial as a valentines request.
2008-03-07, 8:25 AM #30
Maybe so, I just think of school shootings where the shooters were under immense social and mental pressure for the months prior (usually in combination with some ****ed up childhood, i.e. father was a clown) so the cause of them snapping at least makes sense.

I don't really know where I'm going with this. But for some reason this kind of case seems more "criminal," or more "evil." It seems like there is less to explain such action other than pure hatred. But I don't have the whole story, so hey.

Its an example of someone doing something stupid that they know you wont like them doing.

Also:
ho·mo·pho·bi·a - Pronunciation[hoh-muh-foh-bee-uh]
–noun; unreasoning fear of or antipathy toward homosexuals and homosexuality.

I'm not scared of homosexuals, nor do I hate or avoid them. I just don't need them flirting with me, or telling me how good they think i look (if they do, whatever), or asking me out... Thats highly disrespectful. If it is someone I don't know and they make a mistake, I tell them I'm not that way, if they continue, then it becomes a personal issue and I take offense.

But you say that it's disrespectful the first time. And this still doesn't explain why you would even care in the first place.

Semantics. There has to be a basic reason why you're offended when homosexuals compliment you. Do you get offended when girls do it?
2008-03-07, 8:38 AM #38
That part makes sense. I meant to only select this part of the quote:

Here you state that a gay guy flirting with your or asking you out is highly disrespectful. Not if they do it over and over, but even once.

I would if I told her to stop and she didn't. Granted I wouldn't punch her because I think hitting women is wrong. That is, unless she could actively beat you to death... then maybe fighting back could be justified.

Also, again Emon, I was implying the 'if they knew' subject. Somehow I managed not to include it in every single statement I made.

Let me clear this up so I can stop typing the words 'if they knew'.

IF the person DOES NOT KNOW then no I don't consider it disrespectful or a reason to punch someone. However once they do know, should they continue to do so, I find that highly offensive. I'm not going to type 'if they know' again... from now on, should I post again, IF will be implied.
