High quality "Still Alive" cover
2008-03-14, 1:01 PM #1
Hey guys!

A few months ago I posted a video of my band 'missFlag' playing a cover of the song from Portal... it was recorded at a rehearsal though, and the sound quality was quite awful.

But since then, we've received literally thousands of requests for a high quality version...

So here it is! You guys will be the first to hear it :)

Let me know what you think!

You can download the song from here:

Hope you enjoy!

Neat effect on the vocals. The recording is still kind of low-quality, though. And I'm not really a fan of the song.

Wow. It's interesting to hear it out of a computerized-voice context.

I absolutely love this. I am so glad you guys did a proper recording.

"And the science gets done and you make a neat gun for the people who are still alive" is probably the best part. His voice works perfect.

I plan to spread this like wildfire.

Yeah, actually I like his voice more than the fake GLaDoS voice.

That's awesome. But did he say "maybe black meesuh"? And later "rechurch"?

Wonderful.

My only complaint is the line "maybe black mesa", it's pronounced with a long a (ˈmā-sə) not mEEsa.

Anyway, just nitpicking. great song.

Very awesome. All my friends enjoyed it as well.

I dugg it, but other people need to too.

On a side note, your guy's music is very awesome and well done.

On a side question, what do you play?

GLaDoS is a voice actress. Sure, they did some post-processing on the recording. But it's not a fake voice.

I realize that. What I meant was I liked his voice in the context of the song more than the one from the game.

Yeah, the black mesa line kind of sounded strange, but it's an awesome rendition. I love the vocals, especially the part where the pitch raises on "me" at the end of the line "even though you broke my heart and killed me"

Awesome work!

Thanks for the feedback! :)

I just listened to the original again, and it still sounds like MEEsa to me... maybe it can be pronounced both ways?

Anyway, our plan is to spread this thing as much as possible... so any help with that would be great. Feel free to share it and send it to anyone you like.

Also, I wanna put the song on YouTube, but we don't have the time to record a proper video for it right now...
So instead I think I'll just paste the song on some kind of portal-related video... if anyone has some ideas for that, or would like to help make it (I know nothing about video editing) I'd be most grateful.

I'd put together a video for you. I'm a director type, remember?

Let me think about concepts before I make a promise though.

Not all of us pay close to attention to every self-proclaimed title you give yourself.
2008-03-15, 11:17 AM #31
Nope, it's definitely pronounced maysa. Both in half life, and in its uses in the real world. But it doesn't matter, the song sounds great.

(What you're hearing is that it really breaks down to "meh-ee-suh" with the meh-ee combined into one syllable)

No. Absolutely not. It's Spanish, not Gungan. "Meesa" makes me cringe and have bad flashbacks.

Nice song though. ;)
