Wow, it's Jedi Academy. With physics.

Not really excited about this yet. And I bet the Wii controls suck.
2008-04-07, 11:45 AM #3
The DS version looked pap :(

(I am however excited about the 360 version)
2008-04-07, 11:46 AM #4
The force powers look over powered. Even more so than in the past. Also, console only.
2008-04-07, 11:48 AM #5
If they port it to PC sometime later, it probably feel like a console-dumbed-down version. A la Bioshock.

The controls for it look rather strange, especially for the DS, but maybe it'll be a hit.

I'll probably get the 360 version, but only if there won't be a PC port.

The harder they try to make the player feel like a Jedi, the more they fail. BioWare and Obsidian are the only ones to do it right so far, with KotOR.

I still can't believe they are creating separate, dumbed down versions for the Wii, DS and PS2, but not porting it to the PC. :suicide:

I'm willing to say Jedi Outcast, despite its flaws, was the first game to give me a Jedi experience.

Maybe PC is being hold off due to ...trying to see what they can do with DirectX 10? I dunno

Those versions look god awful.

(360/PS3 should be awesome, though)

No actually different motions give you different lightsaber strokes.

It's not 1:1 but I'm pretty sure that's not possible or at least would be very hard to do with the Wiimote.

It wouldn't be that difficult. Games like JO (or was it JA?) already had the ability to detect when the saber hit something, even if it wasn't being swung (like how walls get marked if you walk near them), so that part is covered. Moving the saber in three axis isn't difficult at all. The only hard part might be working out controls to both swing and move the body at the same time, but I'm sure it could be worked out.

This video actually made me want to play the game less. although watching someone play this on the Wii might be entertaining, If nothing else.

I must be the only one here that can't wait for over powered beat the **** out of your *** force powers that completely rape the enemy.

I'm also the only person who likes JA.

JA was fun in its own right, but I've never played JK, Dark Forces etc.

Also myself and zell were being sarcastic. -_-

The Wii version looks like Slash Slash Revolution. A long drawn out button-timing "battle."

The PS2 and PSP versions looked like JA.

The DS looked like an RPG.

The 360 version looks like a physics sandbox game on a console.

Sigh.

Actually I wasn't. I am supremely disappointed in Lucasarts for trying to make every single console player happy, and therefore ending up with a bland, pointless product.
DO NOT WANT.

Also anyone else seem to get annoyed by Haden Blackman, the project lead? Everytime I see him in these interviews, I just feel the annoyance building up inside me. I don't know why.

Maybe he just vomits hype.

The trouble is that they are promising ALOT. Just like most game devs do. After being disapointed many times in the past, a person can become very pessimistic. Or a better term might be realistic.

Everything I've seen in these videos looks VERY repeditive and gimicky. They keep saying that's it's great but, at current, we just don't have a reason to believe them.

This. They have made some massive promises but so far all it looks like is JA with worse animations and some jerky, awkward physics. And look at all the glowy floating magic powers and giant shockwaves. That doesn't look like Star Wars :saddowns:

Not to mention how the prequel movies have impacted us. If anything, Episode 1-3 showed me how flashy CG effects and sorts wasn't the reason why I liked Star Wars to begin with. KotOR had a very decent storyline and, while it didn't have an overly fantastic plot, there was a charm to the characters and atmosphere of JK: DF2. FU better have somewhat fleshed-out story to tell or atleast keep me interested thinking I'm "in Star Wars" because all the developers have been showing me are happy-Force-time-clusterf**K with new technology!. Now there is nothing wrong about the whole Rambo awesome killing fun (games like Crackdown is alright) but its not exactly what I'm looking for in a Star Wars title.

LucasArts is the only company that can make/publish Star Wars games, so I hate to see the license go to waste (again). Personally, I think people tend to "very pessimistic" these days is because while graphics and technology is making leaps and bounds, gameplay can often never be developed. That's why certain FPS games these days look amazing yet all feel like playing the same thing.

I think it looks pretty sweet, like they expanded on the best parts of JO/JA (i.e. the force powers and lighsabre moves).

I won't be playing it, though.

You're not the only one.

I personally like the combos shown on the website, especially the "lightsaber lightsaber push" combo. Maybe it's just because I'm a baseball fan and it sends an enemy flying like he's a baseball that's been hit by Babe Ruth.

A couple of you guys had some questionable doubts about this game throughout threads that I dismissed as stupid, but this trailer proves you guys right.

I'm not even excited about this anymore. Like someone above posted, its JA with physics...JA wasn't even fun.

I mean, a Jedi isn't supposed to be someone who can lift 6 enemies in the air and shock wave them to death into walls. A Jedi is someone who uses their powers subtlety but to an extent where people respect them...They even abused these powers a bit in the prequels.

Considering you're a Dark Jedi, this makes some sense. But really, the prequels have ruined Sith/Dark Jedi, in general. The EU painted a wise group of individuals with insight into the dangerous side of the force. Less prime evil, more dangerous bed partner. I for once want to see a Sith characterized as a (Quack, I can't believe I'm doing this) Snape type character. Careful, wise, and a realistic depiction of evil.

I'm sick of ultimate blow stuff up evil. That's stupid and never works.

Seeing as how our Portly Leader on Such Matters (i.e. George) as already sort of just vomited all over the original trilogy I couldn't care less whether or not this character is "realistic" or not. I just want to blow stuff up in the hour or two I get to actually play games in a normal working week.

In this respect, it looks like this game delivers.
