I don't eat watermelon because it's disgusting and makes the worst sound ever when bitten into.

I can't even guess at why someone would salt a watermelon. Even if there were slugs inhabiting it, it seems like it would be easier to discard the slug-infested watermelon and find a more appealing one than to kill the slugs through application of salt to a food you'd very much prefer to eat without salt.

No, but I've seen a video where they assault one.

Sexually.

People put salt on watermelon before eating?

What the hell?

Then again, I like eating boiled eggs without salt. Which I never really thought was strange.

I've heard of people putting cheese in oatmeal, and bologna with jelly on a sandwich, but I've never heard of salt on watermelon.

I've done it before and it's not bad at all. Used to do that sometimes as a kid.

Maybe it's a euphemism.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Then again, I don't eat many foods with salt on them.

I don't, but I remember people doing it quite a bit in the Carolinas, actually, throughout the South really. Oh and parts of the Midwest. It's fairly common in parts of southeastern Asia to salt watermelon as well. And I recall seeing the Italians and French eat it with some sort of pork that I'm assuming is salty.

When I was a kid I was kind of taught to put salt on it. I stopped doing it at some point. If the watermelon isn't good enough to eat on its own, I don't want it.

I have an uncle who puts salt on everything he eats.

What... why?
Why salt?

I'm vegetarian because animal flesh is gross. The killing part doesn't really bug me. Also I think its silly that people consider eating meat to be a manly thing.

Why's that silly?

It's classic because the classic image of a man is the hunter/killer.

Also, thinking animal flesh is gross goes against all your instincts, so there's some other underlying cause psychologically I'm sure.

Back on thread-topic for a sec:

Some of my in-laws salt their watermelon.

Freaks, I tells ya, freaks.

Salting watermelon is sacrilege.
