I think the scout video has grown on me, but it's still not as good as most of the others.

Heh. I liked it.

Also, have a link for getting it in nice, shiny high resolution in Steam.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

In game, I always felt Scout was more effective as defense than an offense class.

Sorry Echo but you're dead wrong :P There's a reason his special feature is 2x capture speed.

But the video was ****ing on the MONEY.

The scout is good at offense AND defense. He owns all.

He's good at defense, but he's better at offense.

But there are a couple things he doesn't own. Those include pyros, and hwg's with itchy trigger fingers and high sensitivities.

Not until the meets an engineer who camps Capture points with a SG. A lvl 1 SG is decent enough to take down a scout.

There are engineers who camp flag rooms with SGs ALL game.

I've been in lots of games where the spies on our team did a good job at keeping the SG's sapped while I was a scout and capped the remaining capture time.

I guess it depends on the map really. I never seen a scout cap the final CPs on Dustbowl in Areas 2 and 3. A scout simply does not have the punching power and resistance when facing an enemy team grouped together. I never seen a scout fully cap a CP in Hydro. A and B often in Gravelpit but not C.

That's because you've played with some horrible scouts. I've capped that **** as a MEDIC. As a scout I've done it a few times as well.

It's all in the movement, as a scout.

Hydro is practically scout country, right after Well.

Dustbowl is pretty bad sometimes, especially if you play on 32 player servers. Still works if you're on defense though.
2008-04-19, 10:24 AM #23
I assume you didn't just run up to the final caps on both area 2 and 3 on Dustbowl as a Medic alone and survived. On average, there are 2-3 Sgs all clustered around those points, not to mention stickies placed on the CP itself.

If its a team effort, then sure a Scout can cap. But might as well choose a class that helps the team. Uber + Demo can do wonders.

I guess it is true the amount of players is a factor. I agree than 15 vs 15 servers, the impact of a scout's work can be nullified.

That's why you get a spy to sap them or you get soldiers/demos to spam with rockets/nades, so they can't keep SG's up there. You jump to the second to the top platform, run up, and it caps fast enough that you can get it before anyone knows what's going on.

The double cap time is the key to the scout.

Also, a good scout can dodge the turrets from a distance.

Unless you can skim outside of their range, it doesn't matter how far away you are from a level 3, it will decimate you.
2008-04-19, 11:37 AM #27
Yeah, but just remember guys, teamwork's essential. Without teamwork, NO class works.

The bullets don't need to "travel"; the shots from the SG are hitscan. You can run around the SG before it can turn to lock on you, but good luck with that that.

It must be me but somehow I feel that the sentries in TF2 turn around faster than they use to back in TFC.

If a scout can sneak past the enemy team on hydro and they forgot to leave anyone behind for defense, it's all over. Once that happened for BOTH teams at once, and the slightly faster scout won out.

2008-04-19, 11:43 AM #30
The problem I have with Hydro is that the games end too often as a stalemate. :/

I just noticed something in the video. The heavy is sitting down at a BLU control point eating his sandwich. At the end you can see it's now RED. Hehe nice. :)

It's really annoying though when EVERY ROUND ends in Sudden Death.

Scout's the least manly class but it's still pretty useful.
2008-04-21, 9:15 PM #37
As proven through testing in a server full of bored, bored people.
Scout is the best class (We won in 3 minutes) followed by heavy (5) and Pyro gets bronze (10) The other classes didn't win and the engineer failed completely, Losing within 2 minutes.

Uh...that's not "best". That's taking them by surprise, and also notice how it takes longer to win, then they catch on.

There is no best class, they're all heavily dependent on teamwork.

Engineers are NOT failures. On 2fort, I've begun sneaking into the enemy intel room as an engineer to lay down a turret and a teleporter. I saved my team twice from the final capture. Our intel will be sitting 5 feet from their capture point with 1 point left in the game, and it resets because my turret kept them from capping.

I've also gotten good at spy lately. Even if you aren't good at imitation, his knife is a brutal weapon. I think I assumed I had to be deep in enemy territory to be useful as a spy, but it can be as simple as waiting for the right time to strike, and taking out 5+ guys with a knife.

I disguised myself as a demo, and a whole group of em followed me to my own base expecting me to blow up the turrets. Then I knifed one of them and the turrets killed the rest.
