How can Massassi still exist?
2008-04-25, 4:44 PM #1
Don't get me wrong, it's bloody great! The fact that the main site (and forums) still retains the same colour, logo and theme after all these years makes me feel all warm and sticky inside... I just can't believe this community is still going. Do people still play and edit the JK series or has Massassi moved on and still going strong from the community created from that? I still see that it has many of the same regulars, what keeps you posting here?

When I first came into this community, MT was just a site hosted over at JediNights.com (which doesn't exist anymore). All the old sites are either gone or skewed beyond recognition but Massassi is still pretty much the same(ish).

Jedi Knight had one of the best editing communities ever, I'm glad part of that is still going.

the massassi of today is simply a forum. most of the discussions aren't even very interesting, but occasionally theres a good thread.

For the most part it's just a social community site now. Very, very few people play or edit JK, though there are still a few (and some, like Ruthy, churning out work that would just boggle your mind considering the engine). As for what keeps me posting here, I don't know, really. I guess it's mostly habit. I started posting when I was 13 (1999), so basically all through my formative years I've been here.

I agree that it's great that the site is still kicking, and relatively unchanged at that. The chat is also still going strong, it's at #massassi on irc.synirc.net if you're interested in stopping by.

e:I forgot the most important thing; Massassi can still exist because of the dedicated people who have kept it running over the years. I'm not going to try and name everyone, but I will at least point to CM and Brian as people who have been kind enough to invest significant time and money into keeping this site around for our benefit.

What's with the sudden return of TACCers that haven't been seen in years? (CookedHaggis was in IRC like a couple of weeks ago)

Hey, Anthony, great to see you! I have wondered about you occaisionally over the last couple years.

nope.

The only people that play JK now are the kind of people you probably wouldn't want to associate with.

I think I'm going through a mid-life crisis (at 24), I've been thinking a lot of the old community lately and I miss the work (work!?) I used to do for it. Tell Haggis to PM me next time he goes on (if ever), haven't spoken to him in ages.

I simply haven't got the time these days mate, I would love to finish it. I spent over two years working on it and Dan produced some fantastic voicework for it.

I agree, someone who still edits JK such as myself would have no desire to associate with an ugly long haired malcontent who doesnt play/edit JK. :ninja:

if massassi stays alive, it'll have to either latch on to new Star Wars Games, or simply transform into forums (somethingawful.com for example :p)

Well we have the Force Unleashed coming soon. Is that on PC?

I'm a shadow of my former self, only a console gamer these days.

The small community of people that play JK still are probably more socially stunted than you make yourself out to be for the attention.

I still have a beta of your Vader level. I always wondered why the project suddenly stopped.

heck, I think the community died after TDIR was released, becasue that was the last major mod to be released, and lots of people were wating for it. After its release, there was nothing left for the majority of the community to keep waiting for, so it pretty much died out.

I think Aglar is right that this place is a force of habit for most of us these days. It would just feel wrong not to come here and visit our souls.

Ah, mr. Piggott.. you were actually 50% of the reason why I stayed in Massassi. The other 50% was SavageX even though just a few weeks before my arrival he had officially "retired" from editing. Or something. Oh the timey-wimey-times.

Since my comp can't run JK and MotS properly I tend to just watch ToaM 2 BTM every now and then. That one's still great.

It is. I really should have Kotaku, or Halo.Bungie.Org set as my home page and not Massassi. As soon as Firefox is up I'm off to one of them first before I come back here to the forums. It just seems wrong to have anything but Massassi though. =/ I hate myself for that.

Hey hey Mr P, good to see you back! I keep posting here because I suppose I would count some of the folks here as my mates (odd as that sounds) - and every now again I learn something, be it tech stuff, mentions of films or albums coming out, new games, or just gossip between us all.

And I like the new smileys :neckbeard:

I remember playing some of your SP levels, they were pretty awesome. Also, I may be wrong here, but I remember this scotish guy who also did this comic, can't remember the name or anything, but I seem to have associated it with you.

There are many who edit JK and MotS, and there are many who who play JK and MotS.

Editing continues on JK Hub and in #jkhub every day, all day. (I stay and log everything in the chat room 24/7, even when afk, so you can always reach me there.)

Players are just hard to find because there isn't a reliable central place to gather for games (yet). In the chat room, I regularly play with several others in CTF and DM games of JK (and sometimes MotS), almost every day. And, yes, many of the players are people I would not like to be around much, but there are also many who are decent respectable folk. :P

Come on into #jkhub just to chat; we'd love to see you.

:)

I still edit JA simply because it's a hobby, and I love the editor and how easy it is to use. Sadly I'm just about one of maybe three people who still edit JA, and no one really seems to care about it anymore. :(
DO NOT WANT.

Would mean a lot if you played Magrucko Daines and the Crypt of Crola matey! I got into sp editing because of your work, and then it took me about 7 years to make something close to your standard. So - would mean alot! :)

I too am occasionally hit by nostalgia for the best modding community that ever existed. But Massassi has changed since those days.

Good to see you posting AK :)

Some of us here haven't even played JK.
I did play JK2 through though so don't hurt me >_>

This is definitely true for me. I went through a period a couple of years ago after I broke up with my boyfriend of the time, and my closest friends were travelling and I'd lost contact with pretty much everyone else. The people I know online from this community were pretty much what got me through it. So yeah, thanks guys!

I was brought here by a friend who posted as Jagged Conscience. I've only played JO and the only game I ever edited was Jazz Jackrabbit 2 as a kid.
I liked the banter on the forums, that the common age group was around my own and that there were interesting threads and arguments as opposed to other forums I knew at the time filled with "what's your favourite band/game/vegetable" threads.

I'm still here because I still find it fun and sometimes interesting.

Still in the Army. Hopefully not for too much longer. August will be 19 years but my unit is supposed to go to Iraq sometime before the end of the year so I'll probably end up doing a little more than 20 years.

Other than that I'm just a little older and grumpier. Oh, you wouldn't know that I have a two year old son now.
