What's your career choice?
2004-08-06, 10:29 AM #1
I have finish filling out a college application for Penn State and all I have to do is send it. By this time in life, I'm really suppose to have made a career choice. I went with software engineering on my application as my career choice, but I'm not precisely sure if that's a good career choice. Sometimes I feel ambitious and I want to be a politician. Other times, I want to be an actor (fat chance, given that I live a little town).
Anyway, what's your career choice? Maybe you guys can give me some ideas.

Edit: This is a good site that gives statistics and job outlook on careers.

After reading the Bourne Trilogy when I was 11 I always wanted to be an assassin. Now I'm in my final year of uni studying Civil Engineering.

I want a career that doesn't involve staring at a computer all day. I hate to see what harmful or depressing effects a computer screen does to a person after a long time. Hell, I'll do biology.

Plan A: Stay at uni, doing physics part time, also building my portfolio for games companies. After a year, maybe 2... get a job invloved with graphic design. Long term, find a job using my art skills and computer modelling/texturing. Settle down, fall in love, get married, die.

Plan B: fail at everything, including art, and go mad. Kill all my friends and exgf's, go to South America, protect the forests and peoples. Become a psycho ECOTERRORIST... u goddamn mo fo's.

Says who? I had no idea what I wanted to do when I was applying to college. It took me a year a half of school before I found what I wanted to study. If you're have doubts, take classes in various fields and see what peaks your interest. That's how I finally landed in environmental policy and management and I have no regrets

I was taking electronics, but this next year, I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm just taking the minimum number of credit hours to be full time this next semester, and get as much money back from my Pell grant as possible. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]
Also, I'm working on an Associate in Science degree, just in case.

Which campus? I'm probably going to start at Berks and then finish at Erie or University Park. By the way, what is wrong with State Penn?

Says Penn State's application form, which states that you will have a higher chance of getting in if you state a major.

CIA or State Department. I am but a sophomore, though, so that could change.

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.

Throw in a phrase like "super fast" and the computer-illiterate people believe it, even if the next part says "400 MHz CPU".

Play on people's ignorance. That's where the money is.
