Gore Verbinski will direct Bioshock movie.

Please don't cock it up.
2008-05-08, 10:13 PM #2
It's going to be pretty hard not to cock it up.

I mean, Bioshock had a pretty complex plot, and there are many things you just won't be able to convey. Due in part to time restraints, but also the medium of film is just VERY different than that of the video game.

I'm also sceptical that they'll be able to pull off the atmosphere.

It's also going to SUCK if they don't have AMAZING ACTORS. How often do video game movies feature amazing actors? Not that often.

To watch the movie, you have to hold your ticket up every 10 minutes. If the IR sensor doesn't catch your ticket, your chair falls out from underneath you. Anyone caught with a video camera will be shot.

So what you're saying is that they're going to make a movie about a crack team of elite cybernetic super-soldiers who are sent to destroy Ayn Rand's hidden arctic fortress.

yeah well if you're dumb enough to pay for a ticket that requires you to buy the parts for and build your own chair first

By the sounds of the article, almost certainly: he mentions the Big Daddies, and they go hand-in-hand with the Little Sisters.

I'm going to just blindly hope for a couple of years that this is good. Because it can be good. It just probably won't be :(

Actually, Uwe Boll movies at least have had several amazing actors.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

The thing is, Bioshock at least has SOME substance to work from for a film. Why they decided to make a Doom movie in the first place is beyond me.

The Doom movie would have been awesome if it were just an hour and a half of The Rock NOT TALKING and going on a gigantic killing spree.

Must be why they're in Uwe Boll films.

The DOOM move would probably be a little more interesting if they went with demons and Hell of the Doom games instead of the BIOHAZARD VIRUS THAT MUTATES.

Gore did one of my favorite movies of all time, The Weatherman. He also did the Pirates movies. Bioshock is a game about environment and atmosphere, and he did good work in those movies with atmosphere, especially with crazy fantasy environments (The glacial scenes, the scene on the beach with the rock crabs).

I think this could be really good, but yeah, I hope they don't f- it up.

Actors like Ray Liotta and Burt Reynolds are amazing at what they do, and nothing you say will change that just because they were in an Uwe Boll movie for the money.

How often are video game movies anything but utterly awful? Not often.

I was there in the theater
I walked out at "Bio-Force Gun"
****, Everyone knows IT'S THE BIG ****ING GUN YOU <GENKI>S.
2008-05-10, 10:24 AM #27
So did they. Did you really walk out? That's a shame.

Seeing the movie or not, it doesn't really matter. Doom is esentially only the sum of its parts - whatever remote semblance of a story is has isn't what people remember. This like the BFG, the space marines, and where the demons come from are especially important in this regard. I'm not saying the movie should have been the nameless hero shooting things for two hours, but there were a few things definately expected to be done proper.

If it'd had been the same film under any other name it probably would have been better recieved.
2008-05-10, 12:46 PM #29
Can someone explain to me why they can drop the F-bomb every 5 seconds, yet the can't call the gun by it's real name?
2008-05-10, 4:23 PM #30
big ****ing bio-force gun gun
2008-05-10, 5:52 PM #31
Also on that note
Is the BFG company actually named after the.. BFG? Im guessing so.
2008-05-10, 6:21 PM #32
I'm only eager to see the Big Daddies.
Back again
2008-05-10, 6:49 PM #33
Dude, it's a joke. It's not really called the big ****ing gun.

I'm looking forward to the movie, I think it could really work. There is a lot of potential in game-to-movie conversions. People just often forget that the whole point is to bring out a good story. They just end up telling the same story the game does, and that usually fails.

2008-05-10, 6:59 PM #34
No.

I think the big problem is that they don't tell the story the game does.

This.

What video game movies have you been watching, exactly, Oxyonagon? Even the Wing Commander movie strayed quite far from its source material, and it was directed by Chris Roberts (who created the series in the first place). Other game movies - like Super Mario Bros. - are so far removed from the video game as to be unrecognizable.

Probably the two best and most-accurate video game movies ever made are Street Fighter and Hitman, which is really really sad.
2008-05-10, 8:06 PM #36
Gore has a really good visual style, the only problem is the story will probably suck (characteristic of VG movies.)

This is good. It means that Uwe Boll won't be making a Bioshock movie.

Because it sucked plumbs?
2008-05-11, 4:38 AM #40
meh, I just figure if you tell exactly the same story as the game you're bound to screw up too.

But you shouldn't change it too much.

It's a fine line I guess, but I don't think retelling a game's story completely accurately would be successful.
