Except it isn't (real) storytelling. Like all gaming comics, majority of the comics are disjointed segments with the characters in nonsensical situations doing nonsensical things that isn't connected to any real timeline or grounded in any solid structure with eachother. That's the joy of these gaming webcomic series, you can just read it, get what they are saying and move on. The reason why people find this comic so "funny" is due to the fact this one in particular is so awkward and out-of-place. It's hard to find it sentimental when the characters, in comics just before this one, were doing random, ultimately pointless things. Well, if you cared to read any CAD before, it's hard for me.
It's like if Family Guy did an episode that was "serious" about the death of one of the close characters or something. I don't find the show funny anymore, but I would laugh at the predictable failure if the writers tried such an attempt at being emotional.
