I really don't want to spend $100/mo on a cell plan..

But man...can't get the good phones with the cheap plan..

I can get this for $99.95/mo, with a Samsung Instinct or Blackberry Curve/etc:
Quote:
Unlimited anytime minutes
Unlimited mobile internet and messaging: Web surfing, email
GPS Navigation
Sprint Music
Sprint TV®
BlackBerry® Internet Services (BIS)
Text
Pictures
Video
Domestic long distance and roaming

I can get this for $30/mo with a cheaper phone ($49.99/mo with 1250 anytime):
Quote:
500 anytime minutes
Unlimited nights/weekends starting at 7pm
Unlimited Text Messaging
Domestic long distance
Unlimited Mobile to Mobile
Unlimited Web/Data Access
Unlimited Picture Mail (with compatible devices)

Or the aforementioned unlimited plan with 450 anytime minutes / unlimited nights/weekends for touch over 50 bucks..

blah.
woot!

I currently have a crappy phone AND basic plan for real cheap, but I've been looking at nextels. You can get one of those awesome phones with push-to-talk and radio, internet, gps, and all kinds of cool stuff with unlimited everything for about $100 a month, or with unlimited everything except a limit of 450 minutes for $60-$70 a month. I rarely actually talk on my phone, my conversations are very brief...so that seems like a cool plan.

But that's for fancy features. My current plan is a family share and only ends up costing me just under $30 a month...I never go over.

Wireless data costs are outrageous. It pisses me off.

I'm planning on buying the new iPhone when it's out, but I am going to have to figure out the best plan for my situation. :(

PS, where is that second plan from? AT&T?

Cause $30/mo with unlimited texting sounds pretty rad to me.

Sprint SERO

You need a Sprint employee's email address- I googled for a Sprint press release and used one from there. It works. :ninja:

I have 500 minutes of calls, 100 text messages and unlimited data (at 384k) for a little under 30 euros a month.

That's with no phone though.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Unless you have t-mobile, in which case it's ridiculously cheap, as long as you know the restrictions. :D

My AT&T phone has unlimited text for $20/mo. T-Mobile's is only $15/mo I think.

For how long do you generally have to commit to the plan+phone deals in the US, and can you cancel it at any point to switch to another one?

2-Year Contract. Early termination fees usually range from $175 - 200. Pre-paid phones don't have such restrictions, obviously.

Most of the time it's atleast a year.

You can cancel whenever you feel like, but if you made a deposit you won't get it back/they usually fine you.

You'd be correct. It's actually 6/month. Unlimited data. You can't use your own apps on the internet, which is the limitation, but you CAN tether your phone to your laptop (bluetooth or USB) and get internets pretty much anywhere for dirt cheap. I use and abuse this.

Verizon prepay, $15/mo *****es. I just need a cell phone, don't need the extra garbage.

I'm getting tired of my cell... I use Helio, great service, okay prices. I have unlimited everything except anytime minutes because I dont talk that much.

it runs me around $75 a month... I really wanna get into the $40s though. Need to save every $.

The basic SERO plan is $30/mo - it's a great deal, but I really want a phone with a QWERTY keyboard, and they just nixed the moto q9c...

Hahaha, try living in Canada. $30 for 20 MB of browsing, $0.50/MB after you use up the 20 MB. Believe it or not, this is much, much better than the previous pricing. If you don't have a data plan, you're charged $0.05/kb. That's over $50 per MB.

This is why a lot of Canadians are looking forward to the iPhone, it's believed that it will force the carriers to offer fair pricing for data (or relatively, at least).

Not to mention the expensive phones always require a 3 year plan as opposed to the usual 2 years in the US, and our early termination fees are $400 (Rogers) or $500 (Telus).

Find a friend and get a family plan. My bill is $120-$130 for three phones. It would be less, but I have unlimited internet and texts on my phone. And insurance.

I currently pay about $87 / month for insurance, unlimited data, 250 text messages, 450 anytime minutes, and unlimited nights and weekends. It'd be $45 less if I didn't have my smartphone, but the thing's so darn useful for keeping track of my appointments and e-mail for work and personal life.

They're an American Carrier that pretends to be a real cell phone company, but they lease their service from sprint so they can charge impressionable people more for MYZPACE KOREA PHONEZ WITH DATAZ.

I used to use Sprint. Sprint has terrible plans for the phones it has. At least it did two years ago.

edit: and yes, i know Helio uses sprints network, it also uses Verizon's to roam. meh.

They're the same only on average Helio costs more, the devices costs more, and they're korean crapolo.
2008-06-24, 10:48 AM #40
It depends what your needs are, when I originally switched to Helio, they were actually CHEAPER than a Sprint matching plan. The devices do cost more, but I've had two of them, and both of them had signal everywhere except the one spot. The price of a phone typically is directly related to how strong your signal reception will be. I've had many phones from sprint and helio, and seen many more phones of my friends, to prove this fact. (However, it is not guaranteed, my friend had a blackjack, and its a turd.)

I need to check sprint again though, by now im sure they have some better plan rates.
