Things that break your heart
2008-06-26, 9:28 PM #1
This is by no means meant to be all inclusive. List, as you think of them, things that really make you sad. Not "sad movie" sad, but real things that you occasionally experience or see.

I'll start with:

A veteran missing limbs.

A child abused.

An animal abused.

Genocides, and stories that come from them. I read "Shake Hands with the Devil", and choked up several times. I'm building up the courage to read another I bought recently.

War memorials and the Last Post/Reveille.

Africa. If you want a good downer each day, try reading African news. I feel a dumbass affinity for the place from being an immigrant's son.

Lately, a lot of the images from the earthquake in China.

These photos from the 2007 Pullitzer prize winner:

Sarajevo and the siege exhibit in the history museum there. After you've seen what those mortars would do to people, you'll see the significance of all the mortar scars in the pavement and roads, filled in with red concrete where someone was killed. They're everywhere :(.

People filled with hate. Even when people hate things that are stupid. Like people who say "I hate that kind of music, it's so stupid." It actually makes me sad that someone has so much negativity in them.

- People who still talk about 9/11 as though it was the first time terrorists existed.
- People who don't accept that the revolting Colonists, Americans, were terrorists by today's definitions at least.
- People at work who use phrases like "middle east", "glass factory", and "only solution".
Also, I can kill you with my brain.

People.

Specifically, people like dormouse. What he does is like telling someone who got punched in the nose that it doesn't hurt. It doesn't matter how many other people got punched in the nose, or how many times you punched someone in the nose, it still ****ing hurts.

No they weren't. They would have to invoke terror to be terrorists. That's where the word comes from. See how that works? So, no. Because the colonial army did not go around randomly blowing up town squares, thus striking fear into the heart of Joe Blow. If you want to find a 'terrorist' in that war, look at the redcoats. And even then, the worst you got is unfair taxes and a single 'massacre' (A fight, btw, that the crowd picked with those redcoats).

Now, if your goal was to call Americans terrorists, you should have invoked Korea or Vietnam. Maybe Japan; we did terrorize them pretty good.

The scene in the Disney Animated Robin Hood when the kid gets one coin for his birthday, and then the tax man comes and takes it.

Not the same one Spook was talking about, but she did a pretty good number on me, too.

World conflicts that have absolutely no necessity.

The lobsters at Red Lobsters, and the snotty waitresses who talk like concentration camp guards.

Every single time someone kills a bug for absolutely no reason except for the simple act of killing it.

Current[?] legal definition of terrorism:

Quote:
"The United States has defined terrorism under the Federal Criminal Code. Chapter 113B of Part I of Title 18 of the United States Code defines terrorism and lists the crimes associated with terrorism.[21] In Section 2331 of Chapter 113b, terrorism is defined as:

…activities that involve violent… or life-threatening acts… that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State and… appear to be intended (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and… (C) occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States… [or]… (C) occur primarily outside the territorial jurisdiction of the United States…"

Well, to defend myself in reguards to your reply post, IF you were in some way trying to attack me, I will say..

I wasn't trying to bring it up "like its the first time it ever happened". It just so happens that it was the first time in my lifetime that I recall (since I was far too young to remember the first WTC bombing, or comprehend the okalahoma bombing) experiencing a terrorist attack. Its not the fact that I am trying to be a sap about it, its just a suck situation that STILL sucks 7 years later. Personally, and economy wise. That is all.

First, neither the United States government nor that law existed at the time of the revolution. Besides with the way our terrorism laws are today, if you're going to pick between the US govt. definition of terrorism and Websters, you'd better go with Websters.

Besides, the Sons of Liberty were not representative of the entire revolutionary movement. They acted against the government rather than the civilian population making them a little closer to gorilla fighters than terrorists.

ter·ror·ism (těr'ə-rĭz'əm)
n. The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons.

1.) "Sons of Liberty" was something the media called rebellion supporters.
2.) The Sons of Liberty attacked supporters of the crown, not just government figures.

Not really. It wasn't as good as MGS or MGS3, but it was great in its own right. It DID completely remake the MGS form of combat and made it more sophisticated and complex. It also bridged a couple gaps in the storyline between Outer Haven and Shadow Moses (mostly clears up a lot as far as Big Boss goes). I personally thought it wasn't bad at all.

But people regularly like to rail on things that don't live up to their predecessors.
